Thanks Jim. This is really helpful feedback because I've been experimenting with combinations of the "Watch me work - music video" vs. the more informative like this one. The talking ones end up being longer, but if it's informative and engaging, people tend to stick around.
Thanks Fred! It's really good brain exercise for me. I've never been much of a numbers guy. It took me a lot longer than 10min., 40sec. to make this thing. LOL!
Nice bit o' turning there. Love little projects like these! I think I might have to make up a holder for my boring head so I can use it as a ball turner...
Thanks! I built the ball turner fixture. It’s mostly off-the-shelf parts. It’s a standard boring head mounted in a boring bar holder. I’ll eventually have a video showing how I made it.
Thank you all for the extraordinary response to this project video. I plan to create more videos in this format, where I give additional details about how and what I'm making. I was able to make 1/4 in. square corners on a lathe by putting a 1/2 in. round bar in the tool holder and the 1/4 in. mill tool in the chuck. had to be real careful to get the corners 90 degrees so it would be square but it worked out, did have trouble figuring out trying to keep the cross bar in but again, it worked out...if I had a mill those collet blocks would be the thing to have! but I had to eyeball with what I had...
@@WorksbySolo Nice I've got a model C Hercus, not sure on year, I think mine is a mash up of parts looking at the serial numbers Just realised where I knew your name, from the patrons for the Making it Podcast
I'll take 2,000, individually made, at $5 each! :-) :-). Really thanks though. Got me stoked to fire up the lathe again! Appreciate everything that went into to making this excellent video. Skills!
Need a tool make a tool! Doesn't get better than that. On a completely different note, you need to contact Bernzomatic and get a deal going so you can have a segment/series of videos called "The Bern Zone" your tag line would be "Welcome to the Bern Zone!!!!"
Yeah, that stuff happens often when asking favors. I accidentally found my mill while visiting a machinist shop last fall. Put the word out and keep asking around. You’ll get lucky eventually.
My lathe is about 102 years old and I have every reason to believe the 4 jaw on it is original to the machine, the key though was made from some random piece of 3/8" rod welded into a T with a square drive ground in with likely a bench grinder. I think it may be due an upgrade!
Could of course repair the old part, weld two flats to build them up them grind or mill them down to size. Far less fun but frees up some time for other things. Like to way you use progressively larger bits to drill, good methodology.
Haha! Oops! Only in trouble if you get caught. I have one that no one has ever found. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/Fh-Po4LDXsA/видео.html (Now I'll get comments) LOL!
That turned out beautiful. I like how you walked through the procedures with explanations why you did what you did.

That’s a super nice piece you made man.
Thank you!
An entertaining video showing how you solved a fairly straightforward problem. Good work, Bernie!
Yeah, I’ll admit that it got a little fancy. Lol!
Great job, nice editing. Thanks for joining TMC2020
Thank you!
Very nice editing! Great chuck key! Thanks for joining in with #tmc2020.
Thanks Craig!
the Screen Captures in CAD made the explanations much better, I need to remember to add those into my projects!
Thanks Richard. I appreciate your feedback.
Boy that sure is Purdy! Very nicely done!! This is my first time here. #TMC2020 brought me. That ball turning tool... genius!

Thanks Joe, I'll have a video on the ball turner eventually.

Nice touch with the boring head 👍🏼👏
Thanks!
Very Cool Bernie, that chuck really turned out so nice. Great job on the video too. 👍👍
The Muz Shop Thanks Mike!
I don't know why building a simple tool is so satisfying, but it is (even watching someone else do it)
Ryan Price It is, and in my case because I’m still learning basic skills, I gained a lot of knowledge.
That my wife's favorite tool also'
The ball cutter. Great video.
Understood... Thanks for watchin'! :-)
I wish there was a link to buy one

Bryan Duxbury Do it! You’ll have round ends and ball knobs on everything after doing that. Lol!
Hi Bernie great to see you’re settling in with the Bridgeport... aren’t they an amazing piece of kit 😁
Glyn Senior Oh yes! Absolutely limitless. So much to learn.
I love it Bernie! Using the tool to make it's replacement haha. The process is so cool!
Yes, there’s something intriguing about that. Whatever it is, I like it.
Great video, well filmed and nice story telling. The chuck key is a beauty! : ) Mahalo for sharing!
garagemonkeysan Thanks! I must admit, I haven’t started using it yet. I’m afraid that I’m going to scratch it. Haha!
Very nice looking chuck key, Thanks for the interesting talk through 👍 👍
Sparky 415 Everythings Adjustable Thanks for the feedback. That’s good to hear. I think I’ll do more talking in future videos.
Thank you, I'm never going to make one but I found it interesting to hear from you why you were doing what you were doing if that makes any sense 🌝
Beautifully shot and edited Bernie and you know I am jealous of your skills and machines. 🔥👍🏼🔥
House of Chop Thanks Philip!
Good project, great teacher. Thanks.
Came out nice!! You have a part number on that ball turning fixture?
Thanks! I built the ball turner fixture. It’s mostly off-the-shelf parts. It’s a standard boring head mounted in a boring bar holder. I’ll eventually have a video showing how I made it.
So satisfying to watch, thanks for your videos ;)
Thank you for watching.
Nice job

Wow. So satisfying to watch! Great video. Definitely adding a metal lathe and mill to my wishlist. :)
Thanks Mark! It is satisfying, and also good brain exercise. ;-)

Beautiful work mate. This is the first of your videos that I have seen.
I’m subscribed 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Great video Bernie!!
Cory CNC Hey Cory! Thanks for watching. No robots in this project. In fact, I don’t even have a DRO. Lol!
Wow that's awesome. Nice editing nice work, and you explain stuff so nicely. Thanks for making the effort!
Thank you for the favorable feedback!
Great video! Nice step by step. I love those collet holders, super useful, I need to get a pair of them! 😀👍🏻
Jay Yatulis Thanks! I watched a few RUclips videos and discovered several uses for the blocks, plus they are quite inexpensive.

Derek From Malden “thANK YOU”!
That turned out great, but I got to ask... Why is the ball cutter your favorite tool? I took a quick survey and none of my pets were on the same page.
Thanks! Haha! Maybe I’ll name that tool, “The Ball Trimmer”. The groomer will like that! ;-)
Nice piece
Thanks!
Another great video 👍
John Made it Hello John! Thanks for watching.
Excellent upgrade! Though I'm sort of surprised there isn't a Sharpie embedded in there. 😉

i need a mill.. i gave a friend some steel bar stock so he can cut the square faces at work and its been a month.
Yeah, that stuff happens often when asking favors. I accidentally found my mill while visiting a machinist shop last fall. Put the word out and keep asking around. You’ll get lucky eventually.

Yes, I could have just repaired it, but I already short-cut other things to free up time to make this thing. Lol!
