It's the driver. He was able to get away with murder at Augusta because of the huge fairways, short Par-5s, and pretty open treeline. Bethpage is usually very tight and if you look carefully a lot of them are only literally 30 feet wide... A 1/4 the size of Augusta's short grass. Couple that with 2 inch thick rough and guarded greens it is literally impossible to shoot under par without an accurate driver.
Pebble Beach? Now again her has more room to spray tee shots and will not get close to as punished as soon the Black Course. He will contend here... Win...I don't think so but I've been wrong before ( Master's 2019...lol).

@Frank Mclain take a driver out of his bag? you can't win on the PGA tour without your driver especially a very long US Open course. sure if the courses are all 6600 to 7,000 yards you can take the driver out of the bag and win on the PGA tour.
not on courses are 7500+ yards long and you have guys like Rory, DJ and Brooks consistently pounding it 320 plus down the fairway.

And ended up in the right rough (well, that’s the only place it could’ve gone with that ball flight and club choice). Then the par 3 hole cut on the way upper left side (sloping right), and he plays a fade/slice into it? Huh? Then ends up 45 yards right of the hole (that’s the only place it could’ve gone with that ball flight). My head is exploding. Why? Why such weird shitty shot choices? He lines up open to a left pin and I’m like, WTF are you doing!!?? Then he lines up closed and draws it to a right pin!!! OMG are you trying for the highest score ever?? Tiger didn't look right, that's for sure. But he is the Masters Champion! That's pretty nice.
Obviously, we are looking at a different Tiger. These types of performances should be expected. Tiger is taking it all in stride, and we the fans should too.
The way I see it, Tiger's best chance for more majors will come at the Masters. It wouldn't surprise me if he won a couple of more at Augusta. What would be surpring? Winning another major that's not Augusta. Typically, course set up is not suited for Tiger's current game -- like this week at Bethpage. He may have another shot for a British Open where length and accuracy aren't a premium. Nevertheless, the problem is the wild weather extremes that would wreak havok on his back and knees. If he can get lucky with weather another British Open is possible.
We will see how Tiger does at Pebble Beach. The course is long and the rough is extremely penal. We know what the young Tiger did to Pebble. The old Tiger may have a real time of it. Can't wait to see how it all shakes out.

I say the same to myself every time I shot a bad round, should've gone with 3 wood and I would save at least few strokes.
But then again this is a demanding PGA conditions in a hard tight course, you either do the judgement or the course will do it for you, neither didn't mattered if you're not in your A game this will happen even to Tiger.

I thought he should be setting around 3 to 4 under par, going into Sat. Of course, we will never know the real reason why, but I just believed he was getting caught up in Koepka's long drive. I've been playing along time, back when metal woods came out. I was driving the ball very easy 310+. Now in my 50s, different body, I know this, but it still drives me crazy to see a youngster out drive me with this new equipment out here, lol! I truly felt it was getting to him. You saw where he backed off trying to reach the greens in reg and layed up then play for his par. I thought that was a good strategy for making the cut, just a little to late.
He will rebound from this of course, I just hope he accepts the way he played at the Masters, is his strength from here on out, and that's working the ball. He's an old school golfer now, just like all the old greats before him, they won by working the ball, not out driving anybody when they reached that age.
I know one thing, the people that bought a ticket for the weekend are pissed, they won't get to see tiger play for the first time!
Peace to all my hack, amatures out there..."Drive for show putt for Dough", is the way I raised in this non winning game! lol....

He wasn’t that off. His putting sucked. It seemed like he didn’t even want to make the cut. Koepka cannot lode this and if he does, it’s gonna be wild. Tiger was done after double bogey on his first hole with a lob from 85 yards. Anyway, I’ll watch as much as possible but Woods brings drama and energy that no other golfer ever has, not even Jack. On to Pebble Peach and the US Open.
