I don’t need an endless stream of new knife reviews to watch your channel…plenty of other knife related things to talk about. I think most of us can relate to not having a trust fund to draw upon, as nice as that would be. I enjoy hearing about the knives people are actually using, how they maintain them, etc. There are so many knives on the market now and you only have so many cutting needs…quality/affordable user knives are my jam.

Pete, the beauty of your channel is that it is the story of you and your family's life. After all, the channel is Cedric and Ada, not Pete and Bricky's World of Knives. Keep doing you and sharing your story with us. Yes, we are blessed to be in Australia, except for how ridiculously expensive knives from overseas can be, but we pay for the privilege of our standard of living.
Your sharpening series has been informative and fun. Thanks for the diversion.

Pete....I been using stones for over 30 years so here's a tip. Less pressure, go slower, and less vigorous. Also you can use your other hand too steady the blade and help keep blade angle. Sharpening a knife is easy, getting an equal and well profiled edge is where the skill and practice comes in.

I was chopping garden wood into small pieces all day yesterday with a 1095 steel large knife. Sharpening it at the end of the day with a small diamond and ceramic stone, moving the stone and knife held stationary was enough to get it cutting phonebook paper. That is a lot of fun. I own way to much knifes but tuning my sharpening skills helps control the addiction.

I have the 15V Manix and Shaman and they both have been fairly easy to sharpen. But Mayne that's because of the fixed angle system that's making it easy. I really need to find a 15V PM2 to complete the original drop set. This is going to be an expensive year when they drop the rest of the 15V.

G'day Pete, I've got the original model which doesn't offer a 3 sided plate holder, but hey otherwise the same in use. Yep, concur, from dull to sharp is quite quick if you want it to be. Must admit I didnt expect such quick results on the "super steel" jobs. In any case, as you'd expect with any manual stone based system, getting significant dings out is another story; gimme a powered belt or wheel for that ; ) Cheers Duke

IMPRESSIVE! One of the nice things about using a fixed angle sharpener (KME) is how nice the bevel looks when finished. I've never been able to get a nice looking bevel freehand. I'm a klutz, what can I say. It would be nice to see a shot of your finished bevel/blade after these speed sharpening sessions. I just purchased my first (and last) custom fixed blade. It will get carried and used, otherwise it's just a very expensive paper weight. When it needs to be sharpened there's not a chance in hell that I'm going to trust my skills to hand sharpen. I will feel very confident sharpening it on my KME though. As for the channels that have 5-10 new knives every week...I never understood that. Many of them say they buy those knives, they aren't gifts. Every so often those same channels make a video whining about their shortness of cash. DUH...I wonder why??? You're doing it the right way and the smart way, Pete. THANKS for this series of videos, Pete!!

One question: don’t you scratch the sides of the blades on these quided sharpeners this way? I always have this problem that the blades pick up some “dust” from the plates, putting it onto the guides and then when I use the guide they just scratch the blades. How do you make sure it’s not happening?

for newer freehanders like myself, the belly/tip often gets neglected as we fixate of keeping our arms level etc. This means the machine moves to cope with that so we can keep up our basic repetition practice. When you move to a static stone, you need to start lifting the heel of the blade up a little to cover the belly and tip.

I doubt anyone cares but I have to say that I can’t agree with the position of privilege argument. What was Australia 100 years ago, how about 100 years prior to that? 100 years ago Australia was geopolitically and economically irrelevant and 100 years before that it was a penal colony which had only been host to westerners for a decade or so. It seems to me that a lot of hard work by your ancestors made that happen so that their Posterity could have a better quality of life than they had not privilege.

Is the rocking motion of the work sharp when you get to the belly of the knife by design?

Yes, they have the stones rock to help follow the curve of the blade better. It is to help keep a consistent angle all the way out to the tip.

Pete, you can review a bird house and I'll watch. I've said this before but I don't think people really watch gun review channels or gear, knife review channels for the review, at least not the subscribers, we watch for the personality. With that said I love watching knife Sharpening and knife reviews, it's cathartic.

I agree! But I think it is because guys like to watch guys work. That's why we all watch the plumber, the electrician, the crew repairing the street in front of our home, shoe repair videos, etc... and knowing we aren't breaking a sweat.

The eraser works! I wonder if crepe sander/grinder cleaning blocks are cheaper, tho? Whatever you have is what works, of course :)

If you're in the USA, those Pentel erasers are only about a buck each at WM. And they last for years. I have been using the same eraser to clean the diamond plates of my KME for about 3 years and it's only half gone.
