Black Woman Amazon Driver ASSAULTED By 'Racist' Karen In luxury Texas Building | Roland Martin

An Amazon delivery partner, Jamaiya Miller, says she was just doing her job on December 16 at a Texas apartment complex when she ended up getting assaulted and held against her will by two white residents.
Amazon provided this statement to a local affiliate, KPRC:
"The events depicted in this video are concerning. We're supporting the delivery partner and working with law enforcement as they investigate. We proactively communicate to drivers who deliver for Amazon that they are never required to make a delivery if they feel unsafe."
A representative from the Belle Meade at River Oaks apartment complex released this statement:
"Our staff is aware of the unfortunate incident that took place on December 16 between an Amazon delivery driver and two residents. The actions of third parties do not, in any way, reflect the values of Belle Meade at River Oaks. We care deeply about creating a hospitable environment and safety of all residents, guests, employees and service providers. The Belle Meade at River Oaks policy is that all packages and parcels are to be delivered to the concierge desk. To the best of our understanding, a resident mistakenly allowed the Amazon delivery driver onto a restricted-access elevator and a resident hallway within the building, where the event took place.
At this time, we are exploring all options and fully cooperating with the Houston Police Department. Due to the ongoing investigation, please direct all further inquiries to HPD."
Jamaiya says she now suffers from lingering major emotional trauma after a run-in with two women.

Whenever I see a Amazon delivery person in my building and I see their vehicle, I help them into the building, hold the door for them and help them with any questions on where to drop packages off etc bc they are doing us a favor by delivery our packages so I'm always appreciative & nice to the Amazon/FedEx drivers.

As a former city, state, and, twice, federal law enforcement officer, based upon my experience, I find it hard to believe that the police can't obtain the information on the suspect(s). From this video, I see the following (alleged) criminal acts committed against the Amazon delivery person; assault and battery, unlawful detention, and theft (at the very least, attempted theft because the delivery person claims the suspect dislodged the package from her that didn't belong to the suspect, coupled with the fact that the delivery person was the rightful custodian of the package until it's delivered or taken back to Amazon). Two of these alleged criminal acts can be felonies, the unlawful detention and the theft, based on the value of the package. The police could have easily identified the suspect and interviewed the suspect. Probable cause for an arrest was present at the scene, the video from the delivery person's phone, coupled with her statement. Probable cause legally gives police authority to seize the body of a suspect, when such evidence is present. After taking the report, the police could have released the suspect (maybe due to the suspect(s) age, explaining that charges will be filed because the victim (the delivery person) desires criminal accountability. The delivery person, in my view, needs legal assistance because I believe the police are not really trying to help her, the true victim, and that the systems that are supposed to protect her seem to be victimizing her, as well. I understand that a lack of funds maybe impeding your quest for justice, hopefully a well-funded social justice group or law firm will take on your case and work out an arrangement that you can handle, so that justice will prevail.

However, the police should have obtained that information by conducting a proper (in my view) investigation, at the time of the incident, when they had (still do) probable cause to detain the suspect. If the suspect refused to ID herself, the police could have just taken her/them down to lock up. If the complex refused to give the police the info, the complex employee, who refuses to cooperate, could be charged with obstruction of justice. I’m older and I know what I would have been getting myself into after I hit her back, but I’m also secure enough to have an attorney on stand by for me, as well. We, as black Americans, constantly stand and take the abuse from others and are afraid to stand up or fight back for ourselves.. enough is enough! I would have definitely hit her back and if she got hurt, oh well. She would have learned that day to not put her hands on another person. I'm in Houston and I want to know what the police will do. If they don't do anything that would be ridiculous and the excuse that they can't tell the police what apartment she is in is BS. She needs an Attorney. The police can issue a warrant and the apartment complex has to follow the law and disclose the residents information.

In this case, a young woman is staying calm, as an older clearly not stable woman gets in her face. Even pushes a bit, but not hurting her. At any point she could have laid her out. With this video, the old woman started it, and would have been locked up. She waited calmly, filming and called to report her afterwards.
I'm quick to fly off over this stuff, and like I tell all my kids, how proud I am of their actions at times. They show me, examples of the person I wish to grow into. This young lady inspired me to be better.

This young woman is the epitome of grace, integrity, reason, and good conduct. If all people were like her, the world would be a better place. She didn't lose her temper or her manners during the assault. The woman who was assaulting her needs to be held to account. The irony is that society would have us believe the danger is in the poor part of town, when in fact, it's in the rich part of town. What gets me more than anything is the Belle Meade response that appears to try to shift the blame to the young woman for not dropping the package off at the desk. All I can say is that apparently money talks. I would like to think Amazon will take this to whatever level it needs to go.

As a Former Amazon Flex Delivery Driver most apartment buildings do not allow you as a delivery driver to deliver packages to the front office, you have to deliver to their door, most times these buildings have no elevators, support is lacking in their department. Everyone involved in this young lady's case is dragging their feet. I hope that she gets the support, and a big monetary outcome.

This is ridiculous. Why these people can't just leave folks alone and mind their business is beyond me. Also, we have seen enough of these instances that Amazon, FedEx, UPS, and other delivery services should come up with a protocol to protect their delivery drivers from this kind of nonsense.

The actions of Belle Meade are protecting a violent racist woman. They have brought all that punishment on itself. Residents can move if they don’t like they can’t get packages. That would perhaps would lead to better behavior. Also, companies routinely collectively punish. Pizza stores don’t deliver to specific areas of town, pornhub has banned access to entire states and so on and so forth. Belle Meade brought this on themselves.
