I arrived to Malawi just after New Year and found the place so peaceful and free of tourists. I enjoyed these bliss days at the Lake Malawi so much and in between these relaxing moments, I had to do some practical tasks like fixing leaking forks on my motorcycle and getting preventive treatment for Bilharzia.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.

I was in Cape Maclear back in June 2001 after the eclipse in Zambia. It was a lovely place back then and looks like it now. Highly recommended as a lakeside stop for a few days if in Southern Malawi. Good snorkeling and hiking too, and yes the children there are special. They changed me forever!

I've been biking over 45 years and in 2019 I went pillion for the first time with my Aussie mate to the Manx Bike races on the Isle of Man. Scary at 75 years old ! Still loved it though.

There's still a bit of sweating but I can continue travelling until I find a capable mechanic to service my forks.
One of your best ever Kinga, uplifting and just great to see such happy people.
Don't leave the fork oil too long. Air is not great for suspension, it's far too compressible.

Quick question . I heard a buzzing sound and a gosh of oil coming out from the fork when u cleaned the oil seals. Is it pressurized inside the fork scopes ? Thanks and safe journey.
why not make the ride through the village shorter rather than speed it up...it would be nice to have a good look at the building, roads etc.... and get a feel for that African village...speeded up videos are bad for the eyes, distracting and irritating....

@@onherbike Next leaking fork in 95,000 k ;-) Better to have a few grams of plastic (Sealmate) with you than an oily problem in the middle of nowhere. Safe journey, Günter
with the seal mate, you should lift the front of the bike up so the forks arent compressed, then you wont get fork oil squirting out.

Trouble is with the forks is., how much oil was in them to begin with? 6 ounces, maybe 8 ? The brakes, should be at the very least, should be cleaned,& the pads checked to see if they are saturated with oil ( which they probably are) , then top up the fork oil .At least the dry one will work .Oh well , all part of the journey ., Great Video!
No idea how much oil there was and there's no way I can estimate how much leaked out. The important thing is the forks are not leaking now and I can continue riding until I find a mechanic who would have the oil and clue how to service my forks.

Kinga, they make a velcro tube socks to cover the forks that will stop scraping or scratching the lower fork tube. Try Amazon.

Yes! Since that fix I've done 2000km and forks are still fine. But I'm looking forward to servicing them asap.
