Not gonna lie, "To be forgotten is worse then death" is probably the quote that has stuck with me the most over the past 24 years. The feeling of the game session of Gizamaluke's Grotto followed by Burmecia and then Cleyra is powerful and memorable in a gentle, sad, and overwhelming way that perfectly embodies the concept of impotence. It really won't be forgotten.
Astoundingly gorgeous! Freya will forever be a legend... It was sad that she was one of the least-developed characters in the game, despite being one of the first you recruit!
I actually kind of like that she's not super developed -- like the mystery surrounding her just made her even cooler. Kind of like you don't need to think about her backstory TOO much, she's just BAD ASS :)
Literally second half of disc 1 and first half of disc 2 was dedicated to her. What more do you want 😅 We all know the main cast is Zidane, garnet, vivi and arguably steiner and eiko are up there. Quina is a meme so... If anyone is underdeveloped that is amarant.
she got plenty spotlight in the og if not the most(Zidane,Garnet and Freya have huge lore)....Amarant and Quina on the other hand not so much........extra lore on her would be okay though...she's the best character of FF9 anyway(well in term of coolness).....Steiner is the funny clown(comic relief)...although i prefer those actual Jesters Zorn and Thorn over Steiner as comic relief(i remember some rly old comment on youtube where 2 person were literaly mimicking those 2 in their way of speaking just to annoy their family XD)
@@bllllood After Cleyra was destroyed she basically became a background character. For her story arc, that was not exactly a great end. "Whelp, the one she was questing to find is indeed alive but has amnesia, and then shortly after the remaining settlement of her species gets the magical Odin nuke treatment... and... done..." Wait, that's it? She is definitely the best character, but unless I've missed some character arc or am just forgetful (I know, I know... I am due to replay FF9 at some point), her story was an abrupt end and then Frately just shows up in the ending, still with amnesia... Should have had at the bare minimum a side-quest involving Frately and his amnesia to give her character arc some closure that wasn't a "and in the ending they just got together despite amnesia" Quina not having any spotlight? Hmm... I think it worked for Quina because there was NONE to begin with, so the fact that it was incomplete wasn't jarring. Quina was just... there, even in joining the party it was just a "whelp, I follow you for yummy food" deal. Amarant? yeah, he does need expanding on.

Ugh. . The music sounds really epic, and yet, all I remember is the genocide of her hometown being attacked. The somewhat mellow undertones make me feel like it's a bit melancholic of the distant past, despite sounding epic. But that's just me. This is really good, but UGH!! I want to relive the memories of this game again. Also, I wonder if you'll do You're not Alone.
@@arkavalon5347 I love your melancholic interpretation (even if you didn’t want it lol). Thanks for tuning in! And in fact, I will definitely be doing You’re Not Alone! I actually started it a while back but it’s got a long way to go. Love it though!
This is another one of those FFIX tracks that just has so many moods to it and it's another one of my favourites. (though I'm slowly starting to think that if you play me a random track from FFIX once a week I might say that every time...) I remember getting to that area in the original game when I was first playing it and just having my teenage mind blown by this track. Anyway, "take the feeling of the original and try to give it steroids" - I think you managed to put in 95% of the steroids as usual, but because I hate saying things like that without giving any feedback at all, lol - one thing I did miss from the original is that the harpsichord gives the original a bit of a percussive feel/drive to it (are you allowed to say that about harpsichord? I dunno), but I'm not sure how I would replicated that if I did what you did. (Probably I would have got annoyed with the concept and gone away to eat cake or something.) Either way, as usual such a fantastic and interesting interpretation of the song!! Looking forward to the next one :)
Thanks, Richard! I appreciate the feedback. I actually started with harpsicord, and then switched it for harp because I thought it sounded slightly more elegant and maybe a little more epic, but you're right, the harpsicord has that percussive sound. Perhaps I'll redo it down the road sometime and retry it with harpsicord for a chunk of it. But again, thanks! And seriously, almost every track in this game is so full of nostalgia, they can all be favorites, it's cool ;)
bruh its insane how well you descrived what i felt when i heard the music from ff IX, from the flute at start, to freya theme, and zidanes going depressed but having everyone by its side, this game has carved my soul!!
@@TheDiViNeLyRiCsS makes me want to read up on if there's much information on how Uematsu-san composed this soundtrack. There's plenty of his usual influences (prog rock, Deep Purple etc), but everything is just so well done. I assume a lot of it is experience using the PlayStation 1 for years at that point, but I feel like I would feel similar about the soundtrack if it was using similar samples to VII or VIII.
That was beautiful. But. The climax of the piece, at the end, before it loops, sounds almost like a call or cry that then repeats. Ba da da daaaaaaaaaaa? But when it repeats, the original version drops the last note Ba da daaaaaaaaaa Which leaves the piece on an unresolved, yearning note, perfectly fitting the theme of the character. This version resolves the second call, which I feel undermines the whole thing. The orchestral sounds are wonderful, but this little misstep takes a lot out of it for me.

...why does listening to this hurt me? Not, not in the way of it being bad but inside of me just feels some sort of pain, as if something left unfullfilled which I am remembering only now? I haven't had chance to really play FFIX anyways due me not having had memory card on my ps1, only getting to barely meet the character before I had to close the game down. Literally didn't even get out of the pub we meet her.
Music has real magical effects on the human psyche. Different moods can be evoked deliberately. Be careful with your choices of music at different times. But don't listen to mere dogmas of others, follow the wisdom of your own experience. Usually the feeling of pain inside, evoked by music, is a sign of real but repressed emotional pain from past trauma. This may be healed with the help of music, but only at times where the circumstances are "safe" enough.
