IMO, the Sure mic sounded much cleaner with less plosive sounds with both boosters. Colin thanks for all the work you put in to your tutorials! Much appreciated.
I really enjoyed the review! I’ve had both the Q9U (usb/xlr verison of the Q9x) as well as the SM7B which i gave to my girlfriend putting me back on the hunt for a mic and the q9u really stuck with me at the dollar to quality ratio. Seeing the Q9X as an option is amazing so because of your review I got the Q9X to save some money so I can still stream but save up for other gifts for the holidays. Thanks man
Really interesting comparison. Many thanks Colin. The Samson is really impressive, particularly at a quarter of the price. I liked the HighRise too.
Glad you enjoyed it! It's pretty impressive- especially at the price
That Samson sounds great and the price is very good. If I used my SM58 more I would consider getting a Cloudlifter since I have to drive the input of my Focusrite interface very hard to get decent level but here in Australia they are very expensive. That Samson Highrise looks like a great alternative to the Cloudlifter. It's neat how these boxes use phantom power to boost the signal coming from relatively low level dynamic microphones. I generally only record vocals and the cheap condenser I have is doing quite a good job for that.
The plosives from the Samson were pretty noticeable, even distracting at times, compared with the Shure. I know the Samson has a built-in pop filter, but I wonder if adding a cheap external pop filter would help while also keeping it well below the Shure's price point.
How does the Samson or the other two mics compare with a condenser such as the AKG P120 Project Studio Condenser Microphone?
I think maybe my voice is changing... and my trusty condenser is starting to sound a little too crispy... I'd started using an SM57 (because it was here and it gave me a better tone on high harmonies and Zoom calls). So - this might be just the new mic I've been looking for... I've got good preamps so higher level is not an issue.
reminds me of an old Samson condenser I once had... basically no high end
doesn't sound good to me at all
