  • Unboxing video: • Advanced Elements Isla...
Jerry and Linda take their new Kayak to a Villages lake where they put it to the test. Both the kayak and the Newcomers held up beautifully. The boat was easily inflated, add some paddles and life preservers and fun was had by all. It was a windy morning, but everything went perfectly. The boat performed well and everyone stayed dry. After the voyage, Jerry and Linda decided to transport the kayak home on the roof of Linda’s cart. Easy peezy. They even went through a tunnel on Morse Blvd. with the Island Voyage II strapped atop their Yamaha. With the right equipment and a little planning, retirees can get out and enjoy nature. The Villages is situated in an amazing area, full of beautiful lakes, ponds, and rivers. Fun awaits anyone willing to reach out for it.

The Mrs and I were reminded of your kayaking and fishing adventures today(07/20/2021). We walked over from the Paddock Square to the Brownwood Bridge. It was about 7am. There, in the water was a gators head, hiding out mostly below the surface. We spotted the eyes and nose. We saw some dramatic movement of the surface waves, when suddenly the whole alligator was airborne above the surface of the water, jaws wide open! It lunged for something. The gator was completely up out of the water, lunging at its prey. What a sight! I wish I was videotaping it to show you. The Mrs(Meadow37) screamed out loud and ran behind me for cover. Nevermind we were standing against the railing along the golf cart path leading to the actual bridge. It was a sight to behold. You wouldn’t have stood a chance in your inflatable kayak.

I have the same kayak, I usually use it as a single. I'm 6'10, the seat wasn't real comfy for me either so I got a folding stadium seat and just set it in the factory seat. Raises me up a little and gives me great back support. Enjoy kayaking in Florida, I love the wildlife, manatees and yes even the gators.

But yes personal flotation vests are paramount. In any watercraft. Love your video really was a motivating factor to get my Boat. When I saw you both in it. I liked it's characteristics on the water and stability

Poor Linda! The look on your face when Jerry was first talking! You kept looking over the pond to see if there were any telltale gator eyes above the surface of the water. We have a two person kayak that is hard-sided, which cost about 4 times as much as Advanced Elements. Storage for our kayak is an issue. We won't be bringing it to Florida with us. Getting the kayak pushed off away from shore is always an issue. lol

Kayaks aren’t that large. It should be possible to store the Kayak in your garage near the ceiling of the garage. You could raise and lower the kayak with a pulley. If you don’t want to raise and lower the kayak by hand, you could raise and lower the kayak with a small winch.

Hi - Beautiful video. We live in The Village of Charlotte and we see alligators in the retention ponds daily when we are out walking. Please don't take Gizmo in the kayak. You will attract the alligators. There is a large one at the north east corner of Charlotte and Hillsborough and there is a medium sized alligator on Charlotte near the postal station. We also saw a medium sized gator in the retention pond on the south side intersection of Hillsborough and Charlotte. I love to watch them but I wouldn't get near the water's edge or go in the pond. This is mating season for the gators so be careful. They are a little more aggressive in May.

Hey Linda I agree with you! At the start of the video it looked like you were looking out over the pond. Your look was like, "I love you Jerry but I just want to go home." 🤗 You are a champion Linda! When My parents and I would come scuba diving down in Branford, Florida, all those springs you mentioned I never thought about an alligator until I would get out of the water. Then I would feel so nervous my legs will feel weak, but ready to go the next day. I love the water!! Once we were getting ready to dive Troy Springs and the Rangers said to be careful there was a 10 foot gator spotted that morning. Ms. Linda you know that day, I did not get in that water. 🙆😂 I loved your trip today. My daughter would love a kayak like that. lol you two are charming. As a boater my experience is anything inflatable will eventually leak. Go with a hard shell kayak. Im sure you can find a place to store it. As an owner of two doxies I'm not so sure yours would really enjoy it. As a visitor to Hilton head island every year, doxies and gators don't mix

Thanks, Philip! He WOULD love it as he loves to ride in everything from a bike, lawnmower, golf cart, or car... BUT we don't want to attract giant water lizards!

Jerry split that paddle...hold one half in each hand....put them in the water at he same time, kinda like your in venice...and shove off that way--same when you want to get that baby close to land. Enjoy my friends!

It was a relaxing time together. I think that it is important in this new stage of life to find enjoyable things to do together. As for the gators, when we first came to Florida, my husband went fishing in a park lake & as he stooped to rinse his hands, he made a little splash. A gator popped up right in front of him. If he had sat down, it might have grabbed him. I think they stay closer to shore. Please be careful, avoid fishing from your kayak & I would advise to leave Gizmo home. You might consider going in a group, like @ Silver Springs, others could rent kayaks there. Jeanne

A couple pairs of mukluks for puppy should prevent any tears. I don't share your bravery - hearing Jerry say "I doubt there are any alligators" is not reassuring enough for me , but my hats off to you!

    Jerry
I'm an avid Florida kayaker who has spent a lot of time paddling among alligators
    Your POV about them is wrong ;
I have had many gators see me, slide off of the banks , swim out to say Hello , smile and then dive under my yak an action that I promise you WILL get your attention in a hurry
I would suggest using longer paddles ; 230-240 cms and getting a paddle leash to attach your paddle to your boat

Oh, we live on lake Harris, you are fine. They don't usually bother anyone, unless you bother them. 😍

The good thing is most Gators have different personalities. Some could be aggressive, while others just another Wally Gator

Hunter Springs Park in Crystal River is a great place to launch your kayak. $5 to park your car all day - restrooms there also. No gators there (extremely rare occasions if one is sighted). If you kayak with Gizmo have a doggie life jacket on him. If you go into lakes or rivers with gators please leave Gizmo home. Gators know when there is an edible animal within reach. I'm a 5th generation Floridian.
