Just had to make a comment because as a biologist (studying to become a Hadal - or deep ocean - expert) the discussion of deep ocean biology got me really excited: About deep sea gigantism, it's not because of lower gravity entirely, but rather that energy consumption pr gram of bodymass is actually lower for larger animals than it is for smaller animals :) So it is more beneficial for a creature to be huge in a place where food is scarce. When gravity is not as big of deal for movement, being huge can actually be an advantage! So they need to technically eat more than a small fish would, yes, but pr gram of bodymass they actually consume less. That is how they go weeks or for some species even months between meals! And why a whale carcass falling all the way to the deep ocean bottom is a feast that brings all kinds of life to it. A lot of creatures in the deep are actually predators, but most are scavengers. They graze on the microorganisms growing on bottom or eat the "marine snow" - the particles of organic material that float down from the surface. And incredibly enough, it's actually the microorganisms in the sea floor that are the most vital to not just the ecosystems in the depths, but also life on the surface. They process a lot of our waste material and return the materials like carbon to the ground/soil instead of it being released completely into the air. They help fight clima change! :) Without them it would be so much worse. Bioluminescence is a whole science on its own too and I only have an amateur level of knowledge so far, since I haven't reached the level in my studies where I can choose to research it. But! What I know is that is is incredible few creatures that actually possess the ability to synthesize the chemical that makes them glow (I believe it was the MBARI institute in USA that discovered this). And those creatures are tiny. Nearly everyone else "recycle" the chemicals and such they get through eating others who have them, and so the ability to glow is spread! :) Some creatures also recycle the stingers from jellyfish to use for defense. It's a quite interesting system. And finally, bio-luminescence is used for hunting prey for sure, but it is also much more used as defensive mechanisms, communication and camouflage. Creatures deep below are adapted to the complete darkness. Even the slightest light can blind them and so if a predator tries to grab you, light might safe your life! There is a worm that uses yellow light particles it shoots out to defend itself this way, so it can flee :) I apologize for the long comment, but I get so excited when people find this stuff interesting! So few even know that the depths have a thriving ecosystem full of fantastic creatures and I love sharing the stories of them :)
Just an FYI for future viewers: There's only one wrecked ship, the 'Mercury II'. It was grazed by the Enforcement Platform's beam and forced to land for repairs, a couple of decades before the games' events. While grounded, its researchers made some cool initial discoveries about local biology and Architect relics, but also had some nasty run-ins with the ice worms and Kharaa that halted their investigations. Once her ship was fixed, the captain reluctantly marooned all the sick crew members so the disease wouldn't spread beyond 4546B; unfortunately, she didn't realize the Platform had the same policy regarding breaches of quarantine. 'Mercury' got blasted again on departure, killing or stranding all survivors on board, and breaking up into multiple chunks that you can explore as Robin.
Thank you, the fact that he spent a combined five minutes in both halves of the ship, missed 50% of the scans and 90% of the story, then kept referring to them as two separate ships, was driving me nuts.
I don't think the Architects were a hivemind in the sense that they all thought the same thing at the same time, but more so in that all their thoughts were interconnected. Like their individual minds were still individual yet part of a larger mind network.
They were individual enough to have specialized skill sets and training, and for some of them to hold positions of relative authority over their co-workers. Also, I suspect that the doubts about the "continuation of life" to which AL-AN refers were about the survival of the Architect species as a whole, not just that of individual Architects. Even a hivemind can die if the hive runs out of members.
1:37:01 The game was created in Unity, which is an engine with limitations of 8k texture size, or 8192x8192, back when the game was created at least, and that's as far as my understanding is, so I could be wrong. If you go East, West, North, South, up, or down till you reach 8192 meters from the center of the map, the moment you surpass that 8192 mark, you will be teleported to the middle of the map, which is somewhere close to where your homepod spawns. In other words, the map is basically a cube with length, width, and height of 16384 meters. You can exceed 8192 only if you move diagonally at an angle of 45 degrees from the exact center of the map (it's basically mathematics; since in any square of both Length and Width = X, the distance from the center of the cube to one of the edges is sqrt [ (X)^2 + (X)^2 ], or in this case sqrt [ (8192)^2 + (8192)^2 ] = 11585.24) As for building a very tall (or deep) base, well, theoretically you can build a huge base that extends to the entire height (or length) of the map in any direction, but the problem is that loading the game with such a massive base in addition to the already present textures in the game requires a huge amount of system resources, and it could easily crash the game.
Fun non spoiler Alien Containment fact: You can breed two of any species infinitely. So for sushi, bio-reactor fuel ... Or to have a bunch of those Eye Jellies give you the "creepy stare" as you interact/sleep in your base. And creep vines would give a infinite medical weave with a creepy glow to your base if you plant the seed cluster.
I think the scanner room and the mineral scanner both use similar algorithms, they search outwards in a spiral pattern... think like minecraft chunks, it starts in the chunk where you are then spirals around that chunk... if u give it enough time it will find things relatively far away but it takes forever... the scanner room is much better because u can just leave it and it keeps searching rather than needing to hold the thing and wait
Fabricator and storage module fragments are in the deepy twisties, but he ain't going back there 18:58 the entire purpose of Marg's greenhouse was to get the blupes for spicy fruit salad....once again, not that heir add would give 2 spits
Yooo Insym that recap of last episode playing in the top corner at the beginning of the video was awesome!! Would love to see that in your series based videos from here on out !
I think the Crystal Caves is lit up due to bioluminescent plankton producing minimal light, and the morganite crystals in the cave reflecting the light back stronger, similar to how LEDs work. This also makes sense because Al-An's sensors were getting scrambled by the crystals, meaning they must have some sort of refractive capability. That would also explain why the Shadow Leviathan has bioluminescence, because it secondarily feeds off of microorganisms, similar to the Ghost Leviathan. However, it's primary food source is Rock Punchers, which eat bioluminescent Rockgrubs.
Even though you probably ended up figuring this out, the Seatruck module fragments spawn in specific locations. You kept finding the aquarium module because you kept finding fragments in the lilly pad biome and they even spawn in the vent area.
The Bioluminescence in algae works so that when there is movement they light up. Idea is to make attacker visible so that bigger fish comes and eats the fish that is trying to eat the plankton. It is way to shout for help. Also some jelly fish uses that as way to invite bigger fish when they are attacked. I watch all deep sea documentaries I can find.
Seeing this man go out and immediately get close to death from hunger and thirst was so frustrating. Like bro you just left your base what do you mean you didn't top the needs off 😬
Yeah, in Subnautica 1 you never installed the water filter unit, or used too many ion power cells on your Cyclops & Prawn. So 2 solar panels covered your rare use of the scanner room.
Also his base in Subnautica was like, 10m deep and this base is like 20m deep. He probably hasn't considered that solar panels rapidly lose efficiency with depth since both bases have basically been at the surface. My 145m deep base in Subnautica could just barely get by with three solar panels, but once I installed the water filtration unit, I had to go nuclear. Even charging a vehicle with the moonpool would usually lead to a short blackout with just solar panels. The solar panels themselves were on the roof of my third floor, too, so they were more at like 120m deep. Even at that depth, they weren't enough.

Another cool survival game (not water based) that you should play is No Mans Sky with the terrible trio, it’s a space exploration survival game with almost an unlimited range of planets and moons, huge variety of flyable ships, NPC’s and different races of aliens to increase your standing with and a whole economy. It’s a great long term playthrough that I recommend you try out.
Got a shadow leviathan to follow me to the shallower waters, it swam through solid terrain for the most part- then I got it into a fight with one of the Chelicerates. The Chelicerate ran away very fast after it took some damage, but the Shadow Leviathan came after me again. This was in the Lily pads, i almost made it breach the surface as I landed my suit onto one of the larger lilys, but then I lost aggro and the shadow leviathan just swam back to its patrol zone in the purple crystals near Maeda's place, it swam through solid terrain to do it, so I couldn't get aggro again, it was way too fast. A little disappointed that the leviathans in below zero are so bound by their patrol zones. Chelicerates have the most wiggle room, they can be chased out of their pre set zones, but there are rigid boundaries each one will not cross when they reach it. It is possible to get them to fight with a lot of effort, patience and time. If you just want to mess with them without direct contact, breed a tank full of cryptos, they can be domesticated if bred in captivity, then release them in the Shadow leviathan's patrol zone, hunker down in a nearby base, grab some popcorn and watch, it's freaking hilarious.
Hmm I thought the quantum locker was useless as well... but it actually was kind of useful to put all my tools in. So if I needed the propulsion cannon or the scanner or the laser cutter I could just drop the locker and pull it out then pick the locker back up.
I put all my tools that I only needed every once in awhile in the quantum locker and kept it in the storage module on the sea truck. Kept my cold suit in there when I needed to switch between the distill suit. Saved my ass many times when I needed something specific. That storage module is amazing too. I made two of them and put them both on my truck when I needed to farm. I also made a second quantum locker and put it next to the dock at Phi station with my Snowfox dock. Never had to move stuff in and out of my base so it made it much quicker to come and go.
It's useful as a reserve toolbox, and also to stash any item you find while in a dangerous area, that you *really* don't want to have to go back to retrieve if you die.
The snow fox was working fine on release for me and it didn't help in the snow area. I had it before going - I ended up finishing the area in three trips and used the same as you taking the prawnsuit after the first trip. The only benefit was that the hover of the snowfox didn't attract the worm, which wasn't a problem anyway. I think they were aiming for a worm chasing you through an ice maze on land then the scary centipede leviathan chasing you through the crystal maze in the depths but they ended up limiting the Ice worm because this games physics is (was) so buggy on land. The things that annoyed me the most was needing the spy penglin as I just thought it was a fun gimmick why would I have it with me and the fact that they made the land section such a large maze area with only 1 route through that successfully gets you everywhere/everything you need. The rest of the game was fun.

When I first got there the Shadow Leviathan kept attacking my prawn suit so after one attack I got out to scan it and it one shot killed me.....after that I refused to get out of my prawn suit to do anything until it was gone.....I never got the scan on it. In the first game a Reaper Leviathan killed my Seamoth once. So I made it my mission to eradicate all 25 Reapers and drive their race into extinction. Did the same for the 6 Ghost and 3 Sea Dragons. There are now no more hostile leviathan left in my game. RIP my Seamoth.
Man I really need the next episode of Sunless Sea, please 🙏🏻 ❤

I wish there was a way to hide certain videos, because the thumbnail and title just spoiled the creature for me. I was avoiding Below Zero on youtube like a plague so I can play it without being spoiled, but I also dont wanna unsub from Insym because of that. :c
Just wanted to thank you for sharing the experience and answer your question: Below zero was I’ll received at the beginning because it was bad. It has greatly improved since then. Also, that feeling of being completely alone and helpless on a hostile planet isn’t here in this one. There are other characters in this game and an all knowing alien in your head. Then there’s this embodiment of the “precursor species”. There’s no mystery evolving around there or what they looked like anymore in this one.
In the original subnautica I have like 6 solar panels and 2 bioreactors to keep my 6 room base working-- How did u manage to keep going with only solar panels? 🥹
Just like phasmo, I am learning so much. I bought this game a few days ago and Im at like the 25hr mark for gameplay. I also learned I missed a lot of stuff in areas I have already been to 🥲

I wish there was a way to hide certain videos, because the thumbnail and title just spoiled the creature for me. I was avoiding Below Zero on youtube like a plague so I can play it without being spoiled, but I also dont wanna unsub from Insym because of that. :c
Game's been out for 4 years brother. You had an ample window lmao

Just wanted to thank you for sharing the experience and answer your question:
Below zero was I’ll received at the beginning because it was bad.
Woo! Let’s go!
I wanted to see long sea-j :(

In the original subnautica I have like 6 solar panels and 2 bioreactors to keep my 6 room base working-- How did u manage to keep going with only solar panels? 🥹
No water filtration unit helps.
Just like phasmo, I am learning so much. I bought this game a few days ago and Im at like the 25hr mark for gameplay. I also learned I missed a lot of stuff in areas I have already been to 🥲
Having the alien in your head reminds me of crisis
