I am also teaching 2nd grade this year after teaching 5th grade last year. I'm on the opposite side of the building, but my classroom is mostly similar. Last year, I made a floor plan using Google Slides. First, I took pictures of the room. Next, I put the non-movable things on the slide. Then, I added the movable things. I have another slide for my closets and my bulletin boards. I also have a composition book every year where I keep a materials list, ideas to do or accomplish that year, bulletin boards, anchor charts, and curriculum maps. I'm old (This is my 29th year. I took 1 year off. If I hadn't moved to a different state a few years ago, I would be able to retire this June. 😥). I don't have the energy to move furniture around willy nilly like when I was younger. Self-preservation is the key. So, I have to start with a written plan. If the plan has to change, sobeit.
Your process of assessing the space, I call it "dwelling". I sit in the room in silence. I imagine the children being there and how they will move through the space. I make sure that each student's visibility( Can they see the board, anchor carts, etc.?) and accessibility( Can they get to supplies quickly and safely?) of the instructional tools are high, and their distractability( Are they by a window, door, or pencil sharpener?) is low.
I absolutely love your room. At the end of your video there is a window from with pictures in it. Can you please show a picture of it? My house is decorated farmhouse. I have a frame but I love seeing others. I think I have the same rug that’s behind your desk. I bought it at Costco. I’m going to use it as my classroom rug. I teach fifth grade so I hope it works. I’m going to do a vlog this year. I’m starting next week.
It definitely feels good to have it mostly done! I'm sorry that you can't get back in until August! I know how stressful that can feel. How long will you have between getting back into your classroom and the start of school?!
Thank you! I have loved teaching 2nd grade!! I did make the drawer labels. I have made a lot of my stuff in my classroom and I have thought of creating a TPT store but I just haven't yet. :)
I know you mentioned that a team teacher gave you the rug near your desk, but is there anyway you could link or give a similar suggestion. I really want and need one to help my area more cozy. Thank you. Alicia from CT
I have felt that way lately with my classroom too so I know what you mean! I am not sure where she got the one in my classroom but I have seen very similar ones on Amazon in the past. Target has really cute ones too!
On TPT from Pretty Meets Functional. I have several of her things around my room and LOVE it all!! The ones I use are the groovy and bright collection.

Calendar
Can I make a suggestion? Cut out the middle of the r and o in throw. :)
Super cute style!
Basically the middle of all the letters. 😊
I tell myself all the time I should do that! I always made sure to do it my first two years and then last year I guess I decided not to. Lol

Looking great! When do you have to report back?
Thank you! It feels good to have most of it done. :) I officially go back August 9th.
The inside of the letters on your board not being cut out would drive me nuts. I wanna come cut that out for you. LOL
I should probably make time to just do it already! Lol
I ❤ your rocking chair.
Nice work! I also teach 2nd. Its the best grade! Did you make the drawer labels on your rolling cart? I love them!

Can you link your video on small group? I looked thru but didn't see it, thanks.
Where are those decoration posters you hung up from?

You’re a teacher. You should know that you’re not supposed to end a sentence with “at”. Hope you don’t teach the kids to speak like that.
Are you serious? Leave her alone!
@@samanthacampbell1840 very serious. It’s concerning that a teacher speaks like that. But good thing you came to her rescue. 🙄
