I am so glad to find your site regarding killing wasps. Georgia resident at old home with lotsa porch flowers surrounding large porch. Last August almosrmt died from huge hornet sized wasp and almost died. Have Epipens and was stung twice last week when swarmed on from location on porch perceived to be free of a nest. Also was attached 2 years ago from ground nesting type when cutting 4 acres, multiple times. It's either no flowers or take back my porch.
Great video. I'm made a 1.5" hole out of 10oz water bottle, place a stick for them to crawl out. On my trap I added a piece of raw maple hickory bacon hanging down in the middle of the bottle from the screw cap. OMG!! They cannot refuse the aroma of that raw maple hickory bacon and drinking from the apple juice and boric acid. Your wasp problem will be gone under 7 days.
I used your “catch and release” method, as well as the traditional wasp traps, and for the first time In many years, I’m harvesting a lot of figs. In recent years, my fig trees have been inundated with European hornets, and bald faced/yellow jackets. The birds and the squirrels, have been taking some, but they scram when I’m near the trees.
How are the wasps destroying your figs? I don't know about the specific species you mentioned but, in general, wasps and bees and such are pollinators and you WANT them on your property if you're doing gardening, fruit trees, etc. Even if you simply want to help the environment - with the decimation of bee colonies going on and the loss of habitat in general, planting native pollinator flora and encouraging the bees & wasps to have at it is a GREAT thing. People don't realize there is a different wasp species dedicated to controlling every pest you can think of. And some of them are so docile (when away from their nests) you can hand feed them. We leave their nests alone, unless they build too close to the doors or a path where someone might get hit. And even then, if the hose will reach, I just knock down the nest and they leave (without killing them). We only kill (using EcoSmart, STEM, and other organic brands) when they're in a place I can't knock down with the water hose.
I love the ease, simplicity and affordability of your methods on eradicating wasps. The fact you went one step further in prevention is exceptional and most appreciated. I’m clicking subscribe due to these things. I’m also going to share the link with others and encourage them to subscribe as well. The best form of advertisement is word of mouth so, I’m gladly using this tried and true method for you as well. It’s my opinion that your professionalism, relatability and the fact you went one step further is phenomenal.
The Yellowjackets in the Sierra mountains don’t like sweet. In fact they seem to have no interest in anything sweet at all. The way you do it here is mix a teaspoon full of boric acid with I can of tuna in water. Spread it out thinly on three paper plates and set them out in your yard. The Yellowjackets just go crazy for this mixture.
Wasps are selective on what they eat based on the time of the season. When they are getting started and building a nest they like sweet, but when they are raising a brood they want protein.

I did hear somewhere that no wasp will build a nest within 20 feet of another nest, but i've had them nesting under my house, the nearest was only four feet away. But i did find that when you first see them being interested in a site or being busy building a nest , if you spray the area with a mix of 50/50 of citronella oil and peppermint oil by ratio, with a squirt of dish soap ( as the wetting agent ) diluted with about a pint of water and used as a spray, they hate it and soon went elsewhere. I'll definitely try the boric acid/fruit juice mix trick. Its cheap enough and can save a lot of aggrovation later.👍👏👌🏽

Hi! I know this was a year ago, but we're facing that time of year again. I just wanted to see how well it worked for you? I'm hoping you'll be wasp free this year!
I just set three cans around the property. One on the side of the house, one at a dead tree (hopefully can get that removed soon) and one by the tree line. It’s April 11th, and I hope some queens are still flying around.
I have a wasps nest under my "concrete porch." They get in at the very bottom. Not sure how to kill the nest, because the porch is 3 feet high by 5 ft wide. If you try using water, it won't work if their nesting up high under the porch. I did take out a nest very fast with that spray stuff from Home Depot. It sprays about 15 ft and covers the whole nest in foam. In this case the nest was outside and I could see it. Right now, because this nest is under the porch, I think I need a poison powder, that will stick to their legs, and they will drag it into the nest. I hope that will work. I was hoping to use spray foam, but you have to hit the nest.( can't see it) I see one comment here that Sevin Dust from Home Depot works, or Delta, and other people use Borax, or Boric Acid, just like here. Good video.
I noticed a bunch of wasps on some pears that fell from the tree. I put that boric acid & juice mix next to the fallen pears. A day later, there are no wasps on the rotting fruit.
I've done the homemade wasp nest several years ago and learn that from a neighbor and it does work wish I had kept it up so I wouldn't have a nest to deal with now
I tried this mixture and had to place the cans where they were protected from rain. I watched these locations religiously and didn't see even 1 wasp land on the cans. I checked inside the cans and there was a thick film almost like paper. I used the stick to remove as much of the film as possible. I still have many wasps of different varieties. I saw no effect in reducing the wasp population. Was really hopeful but it just didn't work.
Same here, I tried the can method and the wasps wouldn't even land on them. I then built hanging feeders especially for the Boric acid/apple juice mixture that I designed to keep hummingbirds out. The wasps came regularly but evidently the mixture didn't have much effect on the hive(s) because now after weeks we have more wasps than ever.
I try to put the cans where they won't fill up with rain water. The decoy wasp nests will last for years even if they get wet. Mine have been up for a couple of years and are still hanging where I put them originally.
Wasp trivia. I live in on old house and have always painted it the same colors. The ceilings on the porches front and back are painted blue. My friend told me they use this trick because wasps think this is sky. And don't build their nests. (first time I have heard of this) I have never had any wasp nests on the porch.
i noticed my wasp mixture made this foam w/ the applejuice at the top of the liquid after a few days. i used a clear container because that is all i had. am i not doing something right? i got a bunch of these mofos still swarming around constantly in the yard under the deck. the hive is under the deck inside behind the siding and i can't get to it. all advice is helpful.
I don't think so, I'm not sure if mine foamed or not. If you haven't seen this video maybe you could try this. ruclips.net/video/NRtbDFNPg_g/видео.html

In my area (central Arkansas) apple juice did not work well. I watched red wasps and yellowjackets (them ground-nesting little bast***ds) ignore the bait in a soda can and plastic bottles. Sugar Water (1/4 ratio) & they slurped it up. I think they must have acquired a taste out of our hummingbird feeders. Honey bees left it alone. From this and other video comments the bait probably needs to match the environment and we don't have many apple trees in the area
I live in Western, Arkansas. I tried apple juice, sugar water, apples, all mixed with boric acid. Wasps won't touch it. Have tried coke and boric acid, they won't touch that either.
Not in my neck of the woods. I live at 5,000 feet elevation in the Sierra mountains. Yellowjackets 🐝 in this area have no interest whatsoever in sweet. They love Tuna and I mixed it with boric acid.
loved the idea of the balled up paper for nests, how well did it work? didn't see the follow up video on you site. my thought would be they would get wet and fall apart. I bought one of those fake ones here in Canada, got 2 seasons out of it before it was just to broken up to re use a third time. thanks for sharing
The paper decoy wasp nests are either working well or I'm just lucky. There doesn't seem to be any new wasp nests in the areas where I hung them. I'm still using the original paper wasp nest decoys I made in the video two years later. They have been up through all four seasons for two years straight. They do look weathered but still seem to be working well. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate it!
@@southerncomfort971 We have lots of rain here too so I was wondering if I can put the made up nest inside a plastic to keep it from getting wet and deteriorating, would that work? I guess I could experiment with it. Thank you.
does Borax work ? i kinda just ended up using a shallow bowl mixed in apple juice with apple cider vinegar + Borax ... idk if it will be effective in attracting them idk. we'll see .
Seems simple and easy...How do you know if this actually works? It's one thing to see the juice drying up, or consumed. Another thing to actually see wasps dying from it. I know boric acid works well for insects that crawl through it and it eats through the chitin (roaches, ants), but I'm not sure or convinced if it kills the hive (which we are assuming here).
Just mixed about 1.5 heaping teaspoons Ina 20 oz bottle of old juice we had (Cran, grape, and something else). Thinking it might not be to their liking cuz I've seen nothing on any of the 3 I've set up... And the wasps are crazy around here building all over the place. May need to add some sprite to the mix I guess...
Same here. It's what I like to call "emotional pandering" for money. That's why only 20% of people trust the media. They know it's mostly nonsense to scare, make money, and to "serve interests."
I don't know as I have never tried borax. I have read that it needs to be Boric Acid and as pure as you can get for good results. If you already have borax you could always give it a try and see if it works I suppose.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I've done this concoction with BORAX for ants, and it worked. I didn't know that it would do the same with wasps. I will have to try this again for my wasp issue
I always use 20 Mule Team Borax as a detergent booster in the wash. Be careful with boric acid. Boric acid and borax are not the same thing. Not at all! Although it is true that you can use borax to kill some insects, just keep in mind that boric acid is the real Poison. Not the same as the laundry booster. You can find 100% boric acid under a label called zap-a-roach, at some Dollar Stores. It should be dirt cheap and it is 100% boric acid, according to the label.
I don't know for sure but I doubt it. I haven't seen any humming birds feeding on ours. I don't think a humming bird could reach down to the level of the solution if they wanted to.
As far as wasps being territorial I think they forgot to tell the ones where I live. Time and time again I come across two and three active nests very close together and sometimes even within inches of one another.
I had met a guy outside of Las Vegas and he would put small brown paper bags all around his property and he never had any issues with hornets or wasps. He said they wouldn't come around because of the bags not sure why but he swore it worked

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Nice! I'll let you know, I just ordered the Boric Acid. 👍
Good deal! I am curious to know how well it works for you. 👍😀
Not in my neck of the woods. I live at 5,000 feet elevation in the Sierra mountains. Yellowjackets 🐝 in this area have no interest whatsoever in sweet. They love Tuna and I mixed it with boric acid.
great vid... thanks
No problem 👍
loved the idea of the balled up paper for nests, how well did it work? didn't see the follow up video on you site. my thought would be they would get wet and fall apart.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I suppose we get a lot more rain and snow here than you do. but I will give it a try, thanks again.
You're welcome! I wish you the best with your project!
@@southerncomfort971 We have lots of rain here too so I was wondering if I can put the made up nest inside a plastic to keep it from getting wet and deteriorating, would that work? I guess I could experiment with it. Thank you.
does Borax work ? i kinda just ended up using a shallow bowl mixed in apple juice with apple cider vinegar + Borax ... idk if it will be effective in attracting them idk. we'll see .
That's a cool video, I will give that go, and the proper gander nest , keep the coming 😀
Thanks 👍
Seems simple and easy...How do you know if this actually works? It's one thing to see the juice drying up, or consumed. Another thing to actually see wasps dying from it. I know boric acid works well for insects that crawl through it and it eats through the chitin (roaches, ants), but I'm not sure or convinced if it kills the hive (which we are assuming here).
Will that work on Yellow Jacket Wasps?
Yes, I believe it will if they will drink the solution.
Thank you...
You're welcome!
Thanks very much, sir.
You are welcome!
Thx
Any time
Would this also work for hornets? Got a big nest of them deep in a bush. Almost too afraid to go out the front door now
I believe it will work for all flying insects as long as you can get them to eat it.
Awesome! If it wasn't so hidden in the bush, I'd just spray it and be done with it. But I can't see it, and I ain't hunting for it lol
I don't blame you
It worked like a charm!
Excellent! Good to hear you got it taken care of 👍
Will regular Borax still work
I don't know, I've never tried it.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Maybe try some bacon or hamburger grease too. I've heard it works but I haven't tried that myself.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I have heard that too. Hafta try it
2 tsp to a half gallon of juice.. Tastes bad if you use too much.
"Propaganda paper." You just earned a sub my friend. (also thanks for the solution)
Thanks for stopping by.
Propaganda paper . Absolutely correct . That is what prompted me to subscribe . Good job .
Thanks for subscribing and watching! Welcome to the channel!
Same here. It's what I like to call "emotional pandering" for money.
That's why only 20% of people trust the media. They know it's mostly nonsense to scare, make money, and to "serve interests."
Great video!!!! I'm deathly allergic......
Thanks for watching Mark!
When you said Propaganda Paper, I hit subscribe. :)
Welcome SKID! 👍🇺🇲
I did exactly the same. Lol.
Thank you Paul!
Same!! Subbed just for that comment!
Welcome Redblood
Can I use borax instead of boric acid if I heat it up and make it dissolve completely in like apple juice?
Can I use borax?
I don't know as I have never tried borax. I have read that it needs to be Boric Acid and as pure as you can get for good results. If you already have borax you could always give it a try and see if it works I suppose.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I've done this concoction with BORAX for ants, and it worked. I didn't know that it would do the same with wasps. I will have to try this again for my wasp issue
Me too!
WIll this work on hornets also? I'm too afraid to get near enough to tell which pest it is.
Yes, I've read where it will work with most flying insects.
Find it in the soap isle ? , mule team.
Hahahha they used to call it a newspaper 😂😂😂😂
At 6:26, I like how the ad showing on the paper says; Rumor has it that the newspaper industry is dying.. Too funny.
Will it attract and kill hummingbirds.... I don't want that
I don't know for sure but I doubt it. I haven't seen any humming birds feeding on ours. I don't think a humming bird could reach down to the level of the solution if they wanted to.
I bought powder 99% boricua acid. It should do the job also.
It dissolve faster. I bought 5 lbs from another vendor for 40$ free shipping.
who was the vendor please, was it available to Canada? ty
Nice Vid!
Thank you!
My neighbours use clear plastic bag full of water with a few coins in it. Do you think it works?
I have never tried that. If you try it let us know if it works.
I heard that works with flies, and you have to use pennies (something with the copper).
Interesting, I'm going to have to give that a try.
A lot of people swear by that for fly control.
Does NOT work for wasps
As far as wasps being territorial I think they forgot to tell the ones where I live.
Time and time again I come across two and three active nests very close together and sometimes even within inches of one another.
thank you for this video my friend. I too think news is gone, its now considered fully propaganda
i bought this same kind on amazon too. thanks
Excellent!
i call it propaganda news too! If the toilet paper crisis ever comes back...just use that "newspaper"! Great vid. Gonna go eradicate some wasps now!
That's a good idea! Go get em Pete! 👍👊
I had met a guy outside of Las Vegas and he would put small brown paper bags all around his property and he never had any issues with hornets or wasps. He said they wouldn't come around because of the bags not sure why but he swore it worked
I have yellow jackets that live in my bird houses but they don't bother me and they actually eat other insects.Good tips though.😀🐝
My experience is yellow jackets pack a nasty sting. At least they don't bother you so that's good. 👍🐝
Hey Bruce , I learned my Yellow jackets are paper wasps, building nests under my eaves again. I'm gonna try the soap spray before they lay eggs .😊
You got a thumbs up from me just for calling it propaganda paper. I'm glad many are waking up.
Please link the update on how it went...
It worked very well.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I saw the video at the end, did it take seconds or minutes? It seemed QUICK!
Maybe 10 seconds with the dish soap method.
