"There is not bears in dungeon dudes!" (or something like that) Little did he know he would find out soon enough about that... (laughed a lot, best moment! hahaha)
"...every time you walk across these bridges there's a chance they'll break or snails will just sit on the other sides of bridges and stuff..." - without any prior knowledge of this video, this is a phrase which I highly doubt that any organism in this universe, in all its infinite wonder and glory, would come to utter ever again. You rock, Splat.
I paused this video, came back to it after 4 hours, read this comment as an ad played, and THE first sentence he said was this. This is such a huge coincidence that I had to comment something.
Hi! This is Phyre. I had some people post comments probably shortly after this video dropped. I was going through a lot IRL, so I didn't see their comments saying "Splat" mentioned me in your video until recently. Thanks for the mention! I obviously love Rogue's Tale too, definitely one of my favorite games all time. It's gotten me through hell and back, in both the game, and IRL.
Really like these videos where you genuinely seem to enjoy the game. The game itself is not my cup of tea at all, but watching you play it and narrate is just awesome!
FYI: if you run into a really short first dungeon (or any dungeon), there's almost always a secret door around that unlocks the rest of the dungeon. There are no procedurally generated one level dungeons, at least none that I've run into yet.
'This is a game that requires you to intrinsically understand the rules ' ..... Huh??? Quickly shrinks the screen to make sure it is actually Splatt talking......🤣🤣
I suspect that Splat's goofy persona is just that, a persona. For example, rogue tale looks like pure rng fest right untill you learn mechanics of the game and little tricks. At that poin t luck influence becomes unimportan past first 7 lvls in the run. And splat playing and liking game that requires so much learning? Nah
ha, for the first 4 minutes of the video there is Space Empire V music playing! never thought i'd hear music from that game ever again. man, i'm gonna be on a nostalgia trip all day now.
The humour of this game is excellent, on top of that solid roguelike system it's a real pleasure to see it in action, specially if you're playing it Splatt'.
Okay, trying to like this video again, I do not usually love Rogue like games, but this one is incredible and I bought it after watching. Splat's favorite in a category is high praise indeed!
This video has absolutely ruined my wife's weekend! I. Love. This. Game. I have only been doing the roguelike thing for about a month and have play tested CDDA, Qud, a little bit of ToME (love that one too), COGMIND, all awesome games but this one really sucked me in and keeps pulling me in deeper. It's very immersive, the sounds are not horribly annoying to the rest of the house. Great fun, thanks for the video! I haven't finished the video yet because I am to busy playing, but eventually I am sure I will! :)
The whole character level influencing abilities the monsters have access to is very reminiscent of Angband. However, in Angband the depth level of the dungeon was what scaled up the monsters' abilities, not character level.
Same here. It's still on my bucket list to one day finish. Watching Quill's videos definitely upped my game, though. I do feel like several years ago, the game was a lot harder before they started adding all the various branches, when the only two were pretty much Lair and Orc Mines and the Inner Sanctum. Anyway, farthest I've gotten so far is 2 runes (snake pit and spider pit, then got killed mid-way through Vault), haven't even made it to Zot yet. :P I primarily play DsAs (though I guess now it's DsBr now) of Hep. Though sometime, maybe I'll try a run as a follower of Ash.
You attacked the Bear first. What if you tried to walk away and found the Bear following but not attacking. You might have gotten an awesome companion and you didn't even know it.
You might not see this but there is an oooold game I used to play on Mac. It was called Realmz by Fantasoft. You can find it for free and I just tried it and it works on my windows machine. I think you would like it if you try it out. You will see a lot of similarities. Cheers!
Well since you play this game a ton and clearly enjoy it, how about we get a RUclips series. 30-45 mins of uncut dungeon crawl every 2-3 days. I'm watch every single episode.
One thing this doesn't show is that you have to earn the dog or the sword, or the magic on it. This is one of those games where the early game gets easier once you've unlocked a few things.
I really loved everything about this game.. except for those ridiculous trap mechanics. What were they thinking, what is the fun of pressing search button every damn step, so You don't fall into unescepable pit.... every single progress of mine was evetually ruined by this, despite picking auto-search skill.
I figure he probably does those on Twitch. I don't watch streamers a lot at all (I have like two I watch on RUclips who rarely stream ever and that's it) but I feel like that's where he keeps those to, and does first look's here exclusively.
It's not worth to do series in RUclips anymore, lots of youtubers went to twitch or made alternate channels for series because RUclips ducked the recommendation system, lowered the amount paid per video and generally series has a lower view than one or two shots videos.
I can't believe you ate raw meat wearing a red shirt and didn't think something bad was gonna happen. You made a risky decision while wearing a red shirt sir.
Total BS. You find, craft or grind to be above the curve. Game be like: Oh you think you're the shit now? Guess what, enemies are matched to you because gameplay mechanic.
@@lanceuppercut6168 I'd say fair if it's matched, but it's not. Play the game "normally" and elementals will obliterate you in floor 2. You won't have enough money to buy resist and cures. This game punishes the player for levelling up. It's a bad game.
Not really. Game only scales 2 times. at lvl 7 and lvl 14. It allows script to spawn higher lvl monsters and give them perks and abilities they didnt have before. So people cheesing difficulty spike by spending more time on baby levels is just their playstyle.
@@robertnomok9750 exactly. Besides, in a pure roguelike such as this one, your strenght comes from items, not levels. Your goal should be to hoard equipment early on to get out of as many situations as possible later on.
"why is there bear traps down here? who tries to trap bears in a dungeon?" almost dies to bear xD
Then he almost got eaten by a bear
After actively provoking fates by putting on a red shirt. @@mamamia1159
Did any one else laugh wen he summoned the bear after complaining about all the bear traps earlier in the video

New sleeper phrase just dropped

I haven't laughed this hard in a while. Your commentary was just amazing this episode Splatty, mad enjoyment.
But the SILENCE when the bear spawned in was hilarious.
FYI: if you run into a really short first dungeon (or any dungeon), there's almost always a secret door around that unlocks the rest of the dungeon. There are no procedurally generated one level dungeons, at least none that I've run into yet.

Splatty has leveled up. he does tutorials, he does trial runs before recording, i am telling you crazy things are happening.
He's also shown this game off two times before.
Nah
I could watch an hour of this game every sunday
ha, for the first 4 minutes of the video there is Space Empire V music playing! never thought i'd hear music from that game ever again. man, i'm gonna be on a nostalgia trip all day now.
Lol, didn't notice that before you mentioned, shame I can't make my seV to work, would play a little bit just for the nostalgia with the balance mod.
I really like that you periodically come back to it. It is a really good game.
Damn that's high praise coming from the splatcat himself
"...when you complete that achievement, it summons a cave bear"
Well, there you go. That's why there are so many bear traps down there.
Those 30 seconds of silence when the cave bear appeared ROFLAO* still cracks me up~ just priceless
You mean the less than 10 seconds?
Crikey, that cave bear had me rolling, and your response was hilarious Splatty
8:40 there will be a secret door somewhere leading to the rest of the dungeon (its only "cleared" because you explored everything before finding it)
I bought this game few years back thanks to you Splatty worth it
I actually bought this game after watching you cover this game last time! But man do I suck
Rogue's Tale - my most favorite water pit simulator.
Splat you are not the laziest Rogue's Tale player, seeing you move with the mouse is giving me second-hand exhaustion.
I think he does it so it's easier for the viewer to see which way he moved as you watch the pointer move there first. But yeah, tiring!
Splat, please play more of this. It is a great looking game.
I wish you did more episodic let’s plays!
the red shirt reference, brought back some nice memories.
You should try Tales of maj’Eal!
Awesome game.
Free to download.
Thanks. I can only wish (back in time) that first rogue games looked like this. Will add this game to my wishlist.
Those lvl1 dungeons can be continued. There is always a cut path that you explore and discover a hidden door. Easy peasy! 😉
And, if you don't like what's on the other side, the dungeon still counts as completed, so you can reset it anytime.
25:38 Armour gets lighter when in backpack. Need tor remember this.
@no or maybe yes I feel like your cuirass is badly made if it’s digging into your gut
Have you ever played Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup? Probably one of the longest-lasting indie games out there, amazingly deep and fun to play
That Cave Bear fight needed a face Cam moment
The bear traps make sense now.
would love to see a full playthrough of this from Splattercat
36:53
well now you know why there are bear traps in the dungeonXD
been a while from binging games splat, am happy to binge my bday with ur vids
That encounter with the bear was an excellent way to top off the video. lol
Yooo 40 mins?! Hell yeah!! I'm not even much of a roguelikes afficionado but if there's a longer let's play style vid to be had I'm all for it! 😃
Whew. That reaction was PRICELESS.
I love it when you play this.
That's was actually awesome too watch I thought for sure the curse of the red shirt was going too end this run.
I would enjoy watching you play more of this
The ending with the bear got me good 😂😂
That looks fun as heck! And moments like the bear at the end are what I usually crave in these chance-based games so that was awesome!!
Summons a cave bear. "Oh fuck..." Golden!
Lmao, the bear part, the silence after the bear was summoned 😂🤣
Summoned bear after completing achievement is gold moment.
The motion city reference proved you are indeed a real one
Bear shows up " You know the word sorry gets tossed around allot these days"
"Nothing says Friends like..." Sung to perfection.
Every game design decision I like - this game does the opposite. But it's still fun to watch splat enjoying it.
The humour of this game is excellent, on top of that solid roguelike system it's a real pleasure to see it in action, specially if you're playing it Splatt'.

Splat: Who in the world hunts bears in the dungeon?! Bears do not live in dungeons!
Also Splat: There is a bear in the dungeon. Guess I'm gonna die.
I still play Rogue sometimes... I think I'll love this game even more.
It's been a few decades since I've seen a true rogue like
Splat always love your content keep up the good fight.
Idk why but I really, really like Rogue's Tale videos. And they're so rare! I've seen them all ages ago :(
This reminds me a little of Castle of the Winds.
37:17 soooo there was BEARS inside the dungeon. take that spalt Yeh of little faith.
gettin' some nostalgic mmohut vibes from these videos
"who puts bear traps into a dungeon!?" -> proceeds to summon a bear in the dungeon
Dude. You make all these inde games look amazing! Getting this one. "Nothing says friend like a spike in the butt." 😂 Your having so much fun!
Bought this game on your recommendation! Thanks bro
I LOVE the Office reference in the name 😂😂😂 perfect 👍🏾
"Oh he killed my dog, what a jerk." 😂
The thumbnail remains me of the High Walls of Lothric from Dark Souls 3
You attacked the Bear first. What if you tried to walk away and found the Bear following but not attacking. You might have gotten an awesome companion and you didn't even know it.
Now I want to see you do a full playthrough and win this game.

100%, this is what makes the game unfun for me, having to engage in tedium between every action.
u know bro
1. You can bind search action to do it N amount of times per click
2. Auto seach perk is the must.
Looks cool. I'm gonna get it!
i was actually kinda put off (and i like cdda) but by the end of the video, and especially that bear, sir you have sold me :D
HAHAHAHA please Splatty keep this going!
The sounds in this game are amazing !
Love watching you playing this
This reminds me of the dungeon from Lufia 2 that is constantly re-arranging itself and you start at lvl 1 every time you enter.
ancient cave
Such a great game so happy this turned up on my suggestions. The best roguelike
I want to see the conclusion of this run, lol.
When will the day come when we have a complete series? Especially the awesome looking ganes
