    Gotta jump back in here to reiterate what a great job Frank Markus and the production team did with this video. Resetting the bar completely, and, as I just re-watched it, still the best of the Epic Drives.

    Amazing video! Norway really is a beautiful place and I am proud to be a Norwegian through many, many generations. You captured the beauty of this country in a fantastic way, speaking about the culture, and all while doing it in an awesome Audi R8! These videos are why I love the Epic Drives series! Thank You :D. I wonder if he will see this and like it? If he doesn't will you guys? Normally I don't do this, but I am very bored right now and it would be amazing to see how many will! XD

    This video made me think because I'm Norwegian. I was thinking that Norway truly is so small. We're only 5 million in Norway, now Norway is quite a large country compared to how many people live here. Anyway, my country's cities are so small compared to other countries. Hard to believe that Oslo is the capital city of Norway, one of the richest countries in the world. (Again, compared to how many people live here. It's called GNP or what ever. Anyway, makes me love Norway more too. :)

    @BoarderX47 That's some movie trickery you're seeing Top Gear. I've driven the Stelvio Pass and it's actually not that great as driving road. Awesome to look at for sure, but the 180 degree switchbacks are too tight for any real speed. Pain in the butt to shift down to first every corner, and watch out for motos and cyclists. Many other passes in the Alps that are better for real driving.

  • @ugn669
    @ugn669 9 лет назад +1

    Heck with a vehicle like that a drive around the block is an epic one! Buuuut... not a burnout nor a powerslide in over 20min?! I don't even know what to say... or have I been watching too much roadkill and dirt every day?

  • @KapteinFruit
    @KapteinFruit 12 лет назад

    It's called Trollstigen. It's translated to Troll's Footpath/Ladder in English if you were wondering. It's a crazy road, I was driving my old Astra GSI (Note the GSI xD) anyway, the breaks gave up because of all the downhill driving and the sharp turns. That was a scary ride down. As good as no brakes down there, can you imagine? :P

  • @4fastdrs

    9 dollars in 85 cents a gallon, That was the most epic thing I've ever heard! I suppose driving a V12 lamborghini some place like that would be devastating to your pocketbook, and all of a sudden R8 17 mile per gallon average looks pretty good.

    Norway is a beautiful country. What most people don't realize was that the protestant conversion of the monarchy, while not perfect, it allowed the state and society to develop a high degree of freedom and commerce which is evident today. Moreover, it was Scandinavia a whole which influenced the 30 years war making the peace of Westphalia possible. I think the video brought out some of the culture while appealing to its largely US audience...oh and no more Roadkill!!! ;-)

  • @torod213

    I'm considering destroying every single thing featured in this video. All this tourism-malarkey is just pissing me off. Everyone else must assume we're all running around with helmets and swords and worshiping Thor and Odin. All year long all the roads you saw here are completely clogged with dutch and german motorhomes going about at 20MPH. They must have shut down traffic while making this because especially the Troll ladder i just apalling. Oh, and more Roadkill!!!

    I just want to remind American viewers that while the US is a huge oil producer, its consumption is much greater still, making it the world's largest oil importer. Norway on the other hand is the world's third largest exporter of oil (after Saudi Arabia and Russia), and yet most of us don't complain too much paying $9 per gallon. Consider that the next time you get upset because gas prices go up, and then consider getting a Tesla. :)

    I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! I read the article fully and this really brought it to life! Its great you brought meaning to the journey and showed that while we love cars, we shouldn't miss the important things in life. I'm excited for your future trips to Germany and Ireland and hope they come soon. Great to hear such history and learn so much and I liked the narrative style as I recalled most of the article being phrased. Nicely done!

    I am going to have to leave a second comment:
    Motortrend just understands what an epic drive is supposed to be. Sure you need a great car (and boy do they have one and even a convertible) and of course a great drive. But a very essential factor is the company and the route. The stops you make along the way, the adventures you have. It is a well orchestrated and unforgettable experience that takes you out of your day-to-day routine
    PS: And if ever anything needed 1080p...

    Great video. One thing I'd like to mention is that 100km north of the North-Norway gate (Nordlandsporten - shown in the video) is my hometown Mosjøen. There's an Alcoa aluminum plant in Mosjøen that makes a lot of the aluminum for Audi. Infact, the aluminum used in the A8 Space Frame was developed by engineers at that plant. It might be very likely that the aluminum from Mosjøen is used in your R8.

    First off, Norway looks beautiful, I will definitely have to go one day.
    I like the history and information on all the sights but you need something about the car. How about you talk about the sight and then when you show the car driving to the next one you talk about the car? How it is to drive, the experience that probably none of us will ever get. Then talk about the next sight, and then the car while driving to the next one, and so on.

    Dear Motor Trend,
    Buy an RE-20, SM7, or, if you have the money, a U87. With the way your VO dubs sound, I wouldn't be surprised if you were using the shotgun or the condenser mic from your camera in a conference room.
    I'm hearing Frank's voice in a room and a soundtrack instead of Frank's voice over a sound track.
    Get an audio interface/preamp, a large diaphragm dynamic/condenser mic, and don't record in rooms with whiteboards and conference tables reflecting sound off each other.

    Sorry guys Drive just has better shows. Stop using the cheesy music and get better host. I feel like I am watching my grandfather make videos for the first time. It seems like your pandering down to your viewers and it's kinda insulting to some. I am tired of hearing the same ole garage band loops and the quality of the stories is subpar. Thanks for the attempt at least to get better but it's obvious your chasing someone else's ideas and success.

    Nice journey. Glad that u got a decent view of what this country has on offer. Sure, it is very expensive here due to high living standards/wages. Still to meet any visitor that havent found it weel worth it tho. Max speed limit is 100kmh, about 57mph, and speeding tickets are extremely high. Drive within it and enjoy the scenery. Jawdropping at the least.. Best regards from Norway.

  • @kjell75
    @kjell75 11 лет назад

    Cars are very expensive in Norway, due to a tax system that punishes heavy and powerful cars that puts out a lot of co2. The cheapest new car in Norway, the Mitsubishi Space Star, costs approx $17.500,-. But now in 2013 the price of a R8 V10 spyder is approx 455K USD +optional extras, and not 800K. -For now. ;)

    @madant1977 There was nothing wrong with my grammar or punctuation, nice deflection from the topic. Either way this is not a formal grammar school, my comment was still coherent and had a valid point that you deflected from. Your attitude and rhetoric is the only thing attracting any negative attention from Americans.

    I love this show, it is like a cross between national geographic and an auto show. The cinematography is astounding and the monologue is well written. Your pronounciation of Fauske leaves a lot to be desired, and it is slightly upsetting to see Norway and Norwegians always portrayed as a bunch of weirdos (even though I do understand that it's the exotic stuff that makes for interesting TV). But hey, good work. :)

    10:40 I loved the shot of the R8 crossing the bridge on the twisty Norwegien road. Nice mix in car video and panning shots of the road and surroundings too. The script was well-written, the cinematography, like everyone is saying, was impeccable. I can't wait for the next installment.
