    Tbh these deleted scenes would have either given the characters more backstory and maybe even make you care for them

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  Год назад +8

      From what the script showed none of the deleted scenes added or detracted from the characters other than Maggie and Connor.
      Aka: Connor being a boat nerd and Maggie being a workaholic who didn’t have time for Connor (those two were legit the only fully fleshed out characters in the script, not even lying).

    Cool video. Thanks! Wolfgang Petersen's original cut of 'Poseidon' reportedly was 126 mins. Nearly 30 mins were cut and the film is pretty choppy as a result. There was talk of WB releasing the full cut of the film on HD-DVD back in the day but it was cancelled at the last minute. The full cut deserves to be released!

    One fact is that in scenes after Maggie leaves the ballroom, Emily is seen walking around, and I said that it didn't make sense if she was dead in the previous scenes where Maggie sees her.

    I love how the deleted scene of Connor in the bridge sounds like a direct remake of a similar scene in the original 1972 poseidon adventure with robin shelby just randomly hanging around in the bridge.

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  Год назад

      I think you are 110% correct on that. Seeing as Connor is basically just the “updated” (for better or worse) version of Robin Shelby. I never tied those two scenes together. Great catch!!

      In the Book The Poseidon Adventure Robin dies they don’t say how he died but supposedly when he and his sister get separated when the ship loses power causing a panic he falls in a hole in the ship they never find his body where in the 1972 movie and the 2005 and this version he survived despite being renamed Connor in this movie

    Excellent video, Dooku. It's great to see someone "dive in" to this topic finally. Poseidon is one of my favorite films of all time, mostly for the ship, but the fact that there are still a lot of little clips and moments that were taken out is still so interesting to me. I've never gotten around to reading through the script myself, so thank you for doing this. I really hope that one day, we can get a release of this film WITH the deleted scenes that actually aid the movie, like the Emily stuff or the man falling down in the ballroom. Plus, I appreciated the unintentional little shout-out on the bottom at the beginning there.

    Her name was actually Emily played by kelly mcnair but good news we only saw her in the FLIPPING BALLROOM for example she’s sitting with connor and maggie again you can saw her wearing an grey top with skirt on the bottom. Then after the capsizing you can see her in full view as the corpse where maggie looks at.

    I found photos of Gloria (Fergie) before celebrating the new year in a video. She was singing in the ballroom in casual clothes. That was like in 1972 movie.

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  3 месяца назад +1

      A scene of her practicing wasn’t in the finale script draft (finalized pre-shooting). Most likely it was just Fergie doing sound checks/messing around on set.
      (Though, I WISH they had pulled the practice scene from the 72 film. Would have given her so much more to work with)

    I've seen it's hated because the realism of the ship, but never understood why. It actually should be deserving of respect. I mean, what modern movie can achieve that level of realism??

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  Год назад +2

      Mmm, I’ve not heard hate for the realism or attention to the models detail personally, most I’ve heard was the impracticality of the design (which I personally like, but I understand what people mean In regards to it) and the sinking itself not truly making “logical sense” with how the water floods into areas (like the water literally bursting into the thruster room only to find out that room is high in the air and the water theoretically shouldn’t be anywhere near there) but, I enjoy the movie, but can 100% understand people’s feelings and opinions 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I was reading the IMDB trivia for this movie, and they mentioned a deleted backstory for Dylan as well as some conflict between him and Maggie throughout. I was curious what this was all about and I couldnt find any more info on that.

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  3 месяца назад +2

      Im not sure. The script that I found didn’t have any of that, so it might have been in one of the earlier drafts and was cut before the “final” version of the script was agreed on.

    • @cipangoreng
      @cipangoreng 3 месяца назад

      @@Dooku200 interesting, the way the trivia was worded on Imdb seems to indicate it was part of the 30 mins or so deleted scenes. I wonder what was the source for this particular entry. In any case, still hoping for an extended cut to be released someday.

    They absolutely should have left in the scene of Nelson breaking down about killing the crew-member. That was such a brutal moment and to leave it completely unaddressed is pretty sick, honestly. Plus, Dreyfuss felt like a complete waste in this movie - that scene would have gone a long way to giving his character some kind of point.

    • @jameslatrobe

    • @Dooku200

      I completely understand that.
      In my 2020/2021 Poseidon movie I took the basic “idea” from the 2006 film and combined it with aspects of the 72 film and the original book.

    • @koltp1909
      @koltp1909 3 месяца назад

      A little late, but the "another version" would be titled "Atlantis" which would combine elements from all the Poseidon movies in the past 52 years (minus the 'sequel' of the 72 original)

    Not sure why they deleted the underwater earthquake part because like the 1972 version it gives more atmosphere to the movie. Up until the ship capsizes in the original movie we are hinted that something is going to happen from the ship rocking way to easily in the storm leading up to New Year’s Eve party the captain wanting to stop and take on more ballast and being overridden to the mention of the earthquake off the island of Crete and the warning of possible tsunamis despite it technically being a rouge wave when a tsunami wouldn’t get that high until it’s close to land or shallow water. In the 2006 version the only hint of an underwater earthquake was the first officer quieting the crew and saying do you feel that with him looking over the port side of the ship

      @Dooku200  Год назад +3

      No. The electrocution sequence (according to the script) happened exactly how we saw it in the film. Nothing was deleted there.
      Imo, the reason nobody else survived in there is because they didn’t have “plot armor”

    The Tv Version was better I mean not as good or memorable as the original 1972 movie but it’s the only movie or version to show character development of all the characters and the Queen Mary actually boarding the people and sailing off.
    The Hollywood version was too short and these deleted scenes weren’t enough to get the movie up to 2 hours. I can tell they were not wanting or did not care for a epic Titanic looking movie.
    You probably would judge and heavily criticized the tv movie too because it has a few aged CGI sequences but the production value looks pretty good for a tv movie or a 8 million dollar budget movie.
    Just thought I let you know

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  11 месяцев назад

      So the 2005 version definitely has a soft spot for me since it has a mix of classic named characters (IE: Rogo, etc) and new characters (cant remember the names, but I know they’re there, haha).
      The capsize “reason” imo isn’t that good it takes a bit more to capsize a massive cruise ship than a singular bomb near the aft engine compartments.
      BUT, i do agree, it does have much better character development (definitely helped by the fact they had MUCH more time to dive into the backstories/motivations due to the extended time provided.
      My only gripe with the CGI is: the ship itself is just not as appealing as the 06 sleek design or the classic 72 QM. (And as a cruise guy, i know ships from 05 looked better than what we saw in the miniseries 😂)
      BUT, i digress. For the budget it was pretty good for a made for TV movie.

      @@Dooku200 i notice movies like Poseidon and Titanic and even the real life disaster of the Costa Concordia really demonstrates that Water Tight bulkheads or compartments really aren’t that effective. The ships still sank.

    • @Dooku200
      @Dooku200  11 месяцев назад

      @@TNHFPRODUCTIONS987 i mean. We all know why watertight bulkheads didn’t work for Titanic. For Costa Concordia she ripped a gash that exceeded more compartments than could be flooded for her to survive. The 06 and 72 Poseidon both going upside down by the wave and then sinking is due to their upper decks not being watertight cause they’re always above water, its not needed.
      So unless the 05 Poseidon’s flood limit was only 1 or 2 compartments then it imo doesn’t make sense 😂 at most that should have just caused a slight list and the watertight doors automatically close cause the water-detection sensors modern ships are required to have

    • @TNHFPRODUCTIONS987
      @TNHFPRODUCTIONS987 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Dooku200 I will also say I heard the original was so under budget and undertime that they didn’t couldn’t show the ship actually leaving the dock or sinking. The 2006 remake wanted to get right to the sinking and wanted to avoid what happened on Speed 2 they felt all the build up and character development was pointless and wanted to add more shock value.
      I love the 2005 version because Rutger Hauer and many others give an excellent performance.
