Here Stéphane Douady shows the different sounds that can be made, as soon as this singing sand it is sheared, with the hand, the feet, or in avalanches. Recorded on a singing dune in Morocco. Ah the tubas of time... Could you imagine getting lost out there and dehydrated with a sad farty sound every step
lmao
This comment made the video for me.
LMAOOO
😂😂😂😂
Sad farty sound LMAO 🤣🤣
I can imagine if there's a strong wind sweeping over the sand, one can hear the sand dunes YELL.
@@gamerzone0764Thank you so much omg
I came here after hearing about the "ghosts of the desert" in Marco Polo's book, this is truly fascinating to watch.
Blue
@@nikitakrim02 Yup, he and Red always introduce me the most interesting things. :D

Same here.
I came here after watching a video about the biography of Marco Polo
Here from OSP. Didn't realize this is what Marco Polo was talking about in his work when he claimed there were "ghosts" in the desert until today. Fascinating stuff.
I think he means when the wind shifts huge amounts of sand
I feel like I'm being pranked
Its actually real. Science will explain it, I found a video explaining it. I've been there before and found some booming sand dunes. I named a dune Julio.😂
I swear to God man. I gotta check this myself to believe it 😂
@@Ahmed-cy7bf I saw another video explaining that some beaches here in Australia squeak too and that it's to do with the uniformity of the granuals. And wet sand doesn't do it apparently
i can confirm the squeak sound from beaches in australia, i was fascinated but compared to that dune sound - this is way more impressive.
STOP! You are going to attract a sandworm!
+brickboiler He's doing it without a rythm so he's safe for now
Relax. Mongolia’s too far away from where he is.
Bless The Maker and His Water, Bless the Coming and Going of Him.
Step....drag....drag.....step.....step.....wait....drag....step

Bro u need to walk without Rhythm
You know what eerie is that in an little as a days time there with no sign that they were there at all. The winds will wipe the slate clean. You could go insane without a proper way to guide yourself out of there.
Wow, I've just seen the behind the scenes of the SFX of Dune and this is amazing!
12 Years later and this is still pretty dope.
14 years now and still goin strong
@@gamerzone0764 I agree
Wow... It's like nature's record scratch. It's been worn down to such a fine grain. This is awesomee
Sounded a lot like flatulence most of the time, but then, at the end when he slid down the dune....my god that was beautiful, and so loud it went almost to my bones.
That's some pretty dry sand! I've also experienced something similar to this in Dunes Park Florida. When you run on the sand on a particularly dry day the sand will "chirp." I can only describe it like dragging a pencil eraser on a table and getting the pencil to vibrate from it.
They're the satisfying type of sand, and knowingly sand is already satisfying to begin with.
Darude - Sandstorm
+TheLittleSimon The Original and Best version.
I wrote a song in 2001, called Desert Lullaby, where I have the lyrics "the dunes they sing for you". Little did I know. :-)
Woah😦that freaky
@@carmenlara8191 No, just an awesome coincidence. 😀
Where can I hear this?
I came here after watching "The Sounds of Dune" for the movie Dune. Incredible!
I thought all you did was dashing birds and cacti? Happy to hear you also have some time for recreation left.
This is 1 thing I want hear before I die, a beautiful symphony from mother earth,
It sounds to me like sad whale crossed with sad farts
Man this is so crazy yet real... nature is awesome...frightening and awesome
How does this not have more views?
Joslyn Sarshad Because it's fake.
+Joslyn Sarshad Not too many people know about it, apparently. I came here only after reading Marco Polo's account of it. The Europeans didn't believe him at the time, either!
Joslyn Sarshad this is real watch another video similar to this ruclips.net/video/WCrwPMwOcCw/видео.html
I'd heard of this a couple of years back - but surprised just how 'haunting' the sound is when he slides or sets off an avalanche.
That is so darude.
I came here after watching 2021 dune film. This is just awesome !!!
That sands seems sooo soft! It's more like powder than sand. I'd love to touch such soft sand. Here I only know the rough one xD
Following a sandstorm, "hollows" between Dunes can fill with powdered sand as fine as Talc. This can be very dangerous as I knew a couple of Americans that actually "drowned" in such a powdered sandpit .
i heard that it can get so fine it can get into your lungs and be dangerous for your health
I really hope Denis Villeneuve watches this and incorporates it in the Dune film...
And here I am a year later because Villeneuve referenced this video in a behind the scenes feature about Dune’s sound design
Wonderful video, was surprised when it was finished and before I left I checked the date - 15 years ago!
I hope this soft-spoken person is doing well wherever they are
Best example of how this works on here. 15yrs ago.
here because of marco polo biography
That looks like so much fun!
These dunes are now on my bucket list. (pun intended.)
Absolutely amazing!!
They need to use this sound in the Dune films when they need some ominous backing backing music.
Just read about it on wikipedia and had to hear it. Amazing, thanks for the video, great introduction and presentation
What the heck. I never heard of this before! How odd and wonderful at the same time
Last move made the best sound 😆
Beautifull sound
Beautiful.
fantastical thank you
Amazing! The Sound of Dune sent me here and it was totally worth it to follow that lead.
Welp, congrats on the trippiest video I've ever seen
Thousand splendid suns brought me here 😂❤️
I watched this about a year ago in school and I’m so glad I found this…
Géniale petite vidéo, je ne m’attendais pas à ça ! Merci !
I can imagine the desert wanting to speak (or sing) to us after being so 'deserted' for so long. Yes pun intended. Amd thanks for the video I am thinking of sampling this and using it in a song.
3:15 Als hätte Benjamin Blümchen seine Antidepressiva vergessen :D
Beautiful video.
The sand is so fine it looks liquid-ish.
1:51
Fard
Something new for the bucket list. I could sit out there and do that for hours...or until i got dehydrated!
it's almost like crunching snow
Beautiful and so interesting
Nice video, and nice research on the phenomenon.
wow, that's incredible!, it's like a really big instrument that you can walk on lol.
That's fantastic 👍
amazing
A strange and amazing sound!!
the sand is so fine. there must be some sort of health hazard
I agree it is almost like moon dust
That sand is squeaky clean!
Really we’ll explained! Merci beaucoup!
this is awesome
that's amazing
Sublime!
3:20 it's like the sportcar sound!😁🏎️
omg this looks like sooooooo much fun! I love it, I wanna go to Morroco now just to try this! :)
magical
This is amazing. I love the look on the guys face when he looks into the camera at 1:49 . Looks like he's saying "yea, you try to explain this shit."
12 yrs later,my english teacher recommend me to watch ..
that's incredible.
It almost sounds like some creature is lurking under the sands, and the noise is it 'purring' as it's being pet by the puny human on top of it.
lol that almost sounds cute
fascinating, but it makes my skin crawl
What a strange and beautiful sound! Thanks God for created our Mother Earth that continuously surprises us! 🙏🏻❤️
Canções das Dunas...
Neste vídeo Stéphane Douady mostra-nos a canção das dunas (em Marrocos). Diferentes sons são produzidos através do movimento das areias ao serem deslocadas com a mão, o pé ou em avalanche.
the souls of dead moan with their fleeting breath as they are stepped on
Crazy... 💓
I was just looking for the new "Dunes" movie's soundtrack but I am happy I ended up here XD I wonder why I cannot do the same at the beach though...
i came for the dune movie
I thought when he was going up the hill he was stepping on an old man. I DIED.
Superbe
weird... dope... fascinating...
I came here after I was on the Great Basin website in the Nevada Desert it has singing sand also I guess anyplace with huge sand dunes can make the sound
Came here from Dune.
What an interesting little phenomenon.
"All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Selah. Psalm 66:4
It's not a prank lol. The sounds were produced by collisions between grains of sand that caused the motions of the grains to become synchronized, causing the outer layer of a dune to vibrate like the cone of a loudspeaker, producing sound.
This is amazing. It's hard to believe it's real!
I discovered this phenomenon naked on pot brownies and made sound with my whole body rolling down dunes. What a day!
Darude - sandstorm
sorry.

A big wish from me ...the singing Sand Dunes 😍
sounds a bit like a tuba
+ThunderWork Studio than at the end it sounds like he riped a big one
Yeah
When he used three fingers......the dune really liked that. 😂
almost sounds like the camera guy is moaning into a microphone every time that guy touches the sand
It's real, and I love being there.
He is calling the Shai-Hulud
You get this at the beach here in Australia... while amazing, I've seen this plenty of times before. It's just the sound of silica sand moving
What comes to mind...you heard those loud noises that no one knows where its coming from or what it is?
Just makes you think about The Trumpets.
there are beaches in Wollongong that do this
So it’s kinda like how a beach “squeaks” but on a large scale with smooth sand
So many ppl here because they read about the sound from the Marco Polo book… me too! I want to play in this sand so bad looks so amazing!
It is only the sand skibbling against itself, like when windscreen wipers skibble when they are dry.
Sounds like a swarm of pissed off hornets
Sound like Farting sands to me.
C’est impressionnant…fabuleux…je cherche s’il y a une variation de fréquence avec le désert en Namibie
What do play?
Me: Desert
