- It’s always a pleasant surprise to see something out of the ordinary at the drag strip. In this case - a 1987 Chrysler Conquest with a turbo 6.0L swap! And boy does it go FAST - busting out a new personal best: 5.93 @ 120 mph. That’s moving!
We hope we get to see it again sometime soon!

Negative ghost rider. There's one of these for sale right this very moment here in Fowlerville MI where I live. It's a 1989 & it has the 63 from the factory.
Edit: on the for sale sign he has it written as a Dodge Conquest. Not a Chrysler. Don't know if maybe that's the difference or not.

So back in time they created a whole Chrysler model around the Mitsubishi Starion and than dude puts in a LS engine - edgy 😀 but it's your car. Maybe one day swap to a bad ass Hemi. That epic body style screams 80s coupe, and you don't ever see them as drag cars, I like it anyway.
Jules Verne its a starion renamed and people have been putting small block chryslers in them for years but no modern hemi yet

tank2g2 no. They are not. Just as easy as an ls. Mopar performance makes crate 6.4 swaps. People use Generic Motor Crap ls because you can find them a plenty in their natural habitat, the junk yard

Imported for Chrysler, owned two of them. Both brands. A 88 starion and a 87 conquest aka starquest. All I have to say is that its one car 🚗 that is great at launching and going from point A to B in a few shifts.
My folks had a yellow 88 Conquest. At the time that car was like a spaceship inside with all the buttons, the little 4 ran pretty hard with the turbo also for the time period. 88 wasn't a particular good year for fast production cars. Hard to find these cars now that aren't beat to hell.
I don't like the ls swap in it but the car runs good

Chemdog nothing against the ls. I one day myself will mess around in it in my vehicle. I prefer to leave it with a Mitsubishi engine in it
i had a conquest stock,gave it ex.and cold air, more fuel pump and injectors,changed the gears 2.6 hemi stock did some port work on the heads,built a header into the turbo,n the lil car kicked but,would run 11:OOs in the 1/4 was proud of the lil car,this was in 1992,was'nt much but would kick a lot of cars ass''es they were'nt expecting it but it got right along,sleeper 4 banger,stock wheels n leather int.power windows n all loved the lil car porshe red.air con.stereo controls on the stearing wheel.bad ass look'in car the would hold it's own for what it was,loved the CHRYSLER CONQUEST!!! looked like a porshe but was all MOPAR wish i still had it.

God I miss my Conquest. I sold it to make room for a turbo eclipse. Unfortunately LS swaps hadn't become a thing yet back then. I will buy another one before I die damnit.
Starion, conquest, same thing but during the 90's in Puerto Rico we make this car faster than that with the 2.4l turbo original engine, the only problem is that car is heavy, during the 90's few drag team used this engine and they break every record in the tracks in their class, like Sakura racing and others, but is nice to see one of the few still out there

You're right Sakura had a colt 4g54 2.6l i4, more later they work on a mitsubishi v6, but never run it. The thing is that a lot of person in that time believe it has a 4g63 stroker 2.4l.

Starion is literally janglish (Japanese English) for "Stallion". The starion was the bigger brother of the "colt".
Well, just to give you another laugh... the Datsun Fairlady was named after the musical "My Fair Lady" because the then president of Nissan loved the musical. ;)

Its a mitsubishi starion guys do your research its a 2.6 4inline turbo normally fast and when it was shipped over since in the 80s they had to change the name chrysler conquest soo theres alot of conquest rare to see a mitsubishi starion
I've always wanted a Conquest TSI and/or Mitsubishi Starion since High School. They are especially rare nowadays and had a classic/timeless body style. Just awesome all the way down the line.

Thanks for the information and tip, but if I have not bought one by now then it I never will. These are pretty rare, have electrical issues and scarce parts availability. That is still why I have not bought one after 20 years.
Seems like starions are starting to get some publicity. Lol hopefully we can get some aftermarket parts soon

All Plymouth Conquests, Dodge Conquests, and Chrysler Conquests are actually Mitsu Starions, designed and made in Japan by Mitsubishi with Mitsu badging under the hood. Chrysler owned Mitsubishi at the time. They were slapping Conquest stickers on the back of them to sale them on Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth lots. Luckily, Chrysler had basically nothing to do with the design.

My dad had a 2 starion when i was kid , loved those cars , they still look great , and they are quick stock.
Now that I've seen more 1/8 mile racing I've decided it's actually pretty good

8th saves parts and it is unforgiving if you mess up. Quarter mile the more powerful vehicle usually wins cuz if you mess up the start you can still have twice the track to catch up on. 8th 90% of the time if you get left on or miss a shift you are taking the L.
He basically gives each person a extra car length at the starting line with how bad his reaction time is on green and he still whoops them lol

Rode in a brand new one one time because my friend kept referring to it as his road rocket. OK then, show me. Pretty damn impressive, we hit a couple of s curves doing 80 and shot out of those like a sling shot! Not sure about it being Chrysler though. Seems to me it may have been an import. I do remember the Mitsubishi badge and Conquest on the rear of the hatch.

I had a 89 conquest/staireon 2.5 turbo TSI duel over head cam. 5Speed. I done some turbo work/tune an with just few hundred books I was smoken 5.0 stangs an Ls1s in a 1/8 an 1/4 mile. Red light to red light didnt matter in a 1/4mile ran 10.8 134 mph. Not bad for a light car thay only maid 3years of 87 88 89. My top speed in what mitsabishi like to call thir answer to the supra thir staireon my top speed on interstate 81 was 162mph again not bad for some tuning an a few parts my name Boe Pleasant an that was my conquest fun oh the good oll days

Lol it's a Mitsubishi Station! produced between 1983-1990 some will argue only made till 1989 but cars made after The 6th calendar month are always sold as the next model year. The Chrysler conquest tsi and Mitsubishi Starion are the exact same car! only difference is they are rebaged as Chrysler. The conquest and Starion differences are only badges and paint codes. It's the same thing with the DSM from 1989-1999 eclipse, laser, talon by Mitsubishi, Dodge, eagle. only difference's are badges and paint codes. Hope this helps.
That's not the only difference, the starion in Japan had a 4G63 but the starion and conquest in America had a 4G58 or something like that

How do you tell someone that likely does not race competitively?.... they bitch about the "LS"... like there have been 20 different racing motors over the last 50 years.. I can see it now... "Oh that top fuel car sucks cause it runs a "Chrysler" motor (people have tried and succeeded at running other motors but was not easy...) ,(see Elephant Hunter RIP Ronnie and Joe!)
IF you are going to invest in a race program, you are not doing it to be different or special.. you do it to win... to win, you use what the winners do (unless you have a butt load of money and lots of time to develop a new program... My advice to "new" racers? go find last years champ and pay what he wants for his last years stuff.. you are going to save money in the end.. (and you might just win while you are at it..) Frankly, winning is not about the car, the motor or your "dyno" numbers.. it is about preparation and proper setups for the combo you are running.. Consistency wins events and making the fewest mistakes.... that is pretty difficult considering all the variables in a given day.. In order to adjust for those variables, you must have (MUST) a repeatable setup and that comes from the racer.. hats off to points guys , most have it figured out even if they cant get it right all the time PS: I never ran an LS motor, but I would if I was running these cars.. cheap parts, known setups and a lot less development time
A lot of it is just money - you can get plenty of power out of a few other blocks but why bother when you can do it with a dirt cheap LS? Same reason everyone's boosting Hondas - plenty of stronger motors out there but Honda motors share parts more easily than lego sets and everything's super cheap.
Good point on the setup as well. For every car that's running 9s there are ten more just like it running 10s or 11s because they haven't got it set up right yet or haven't had enough seat time.

If it runs 5.90's it should have somewhere around 700 horsepower
