Step by step tutorial on how to apply press fasteners or snaps to fabric specifically using the Birch press fastener kit with tools included but would work for most press snap fastener brands.
In my opinion this is a great, simple and very cheap Press Snap Fastener Tool Kit here on Amazon to get you started. amzn.to/2ssv53Z

You have saved my sanity. Everyone needs a patient man solving a problem. Thank you.
Feel like I've achieved something today after this tutorial. Thanks to you! Great instructions 👍
Thank you so much for your very calm and great tutorial of the snaps. Couldn’t work it out but you’ve made it so clear by taking your time explaining it. 🙏and I could follow you doing it while I as doing it.
Huge thanks...you have saved us from insanity! My sister & I were struggling & at wits end. Thank goodness for RUclips & your video
Bought exact Kit - struggled with Instructions too!
You saved me much frustration & $20 ( cause it worked than throwing it in the bin).
Proud to say I now have cute dribble bids for Grandies.
Much thanks!!!
Fantastic. We made the same mistake as you at the start and the end of the fastener broke off inside the hole-punching tool 1.
Birch need to work on their editing!
Made the exact same mistake 😂was so ready to throw in the towel just before finding your video thank you for sharing
Thanks so very much for sharing this video, I’m off to spotlight to get these today and couldn’t understand how it was done, until now!! Also had a chuckle to myself loving your humour ❤😊
Thank you for the fantastic tutorial!! I was planning on buying some for a bag I'm making, and I was looking at the review on Spotlight and they sounded awful! Everyone has gotten confused by the instructions. Glad I found this before buying them!
Thank you so much. My first attempt today, couldn't understand the instructions, found you, and now I'm all clipped up! My day would have been very frustrating without your clear instructions!
Mate your video saved me from a lot of agony. I was religiously following the instructions on the back of the packet and was using the wrong tool. Great video. Thanks
Oh boy … I thought I was stupid when I read the instructions on the back …. Sooo glad I looked at this RUclips…..you make it all seem so easy ….. thank you 🎉❤
Someone should send this video to the packaging team at Birch, they really need to rectify the instructions, as I too would have done it wrong and ruined hours of sewing a project. Thank you for taking the time to do this video and saving my sanity.
Thanx so much, …..we were pulling our hair out trying to work out the packet instructions. You’re an Absolute Legend……THANK YOU.
🤣🤣🤣 so good, bloody hell who made those instructions! Thanks a heap. Glad I searched it first.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! We were struggling for ages to get this bloody kit to work. You are officially an absolute legend!!!!
I could give you a bit fat kiss. THANK YOU for deciphering this for me and saving me hours of frustration!!
Thanks Shannon for this video. I bought the same kit and couldn't make head or tail of it. So my first thought was to go to RUclips. Yours was the first video on the search results.
I particularly appreciated that you went to the effort of explaining the do's and don'ts of the whole procedure. My wife and I watched the video and then got to and did the work. It turned out great!
You really should have a patreon because your efforts are worth something.
pakenhamin thank you for your comment. You reminded me to had my buy a coffee link to videos. I use this site. I’m glad I could have helped you.

Thank you for taking the time to do this video! It made the difference between doing a good job and stuffing it up. Tip: if you have one, I used the hole puncher for a belt, it was much easier.
Coffee well deserved mate! I would have Fed this up completely with those dang instructions but thank goodness for this video!
Thank you so much for the coffee. I appreciate it. I’m glad I could help. It’s amazing they still haven’t adjusted this.
Legend! My poor little brain was on the verge of a melt down until I found your video
I just bought this in 2022 and they have not changed the instructions! You are a genius and unlike me, I thought I was I got the instructions wrong, bought another packet because I ruined the Tool 1, and followed the SAME instructions and ruined it again! You deserve a coffee and a medal from Birch - how do I get you one as I'm in Singapore?
Thank you so much!!!! Could not work it out by the instructions at all !!!
Yep I got confused as well, it is badly designed instructions, thank you for putting this together!
Thanks for this video, the instructions were definitely unclear. You have saved my day.
Thanks for this! Looking forward to completing a project with these same snaps.
wow thanks for the video!!! just bought it this morning and found the tool not making sense!!! thank you so much.
Thankyou 😊 thank goodness I only messed up one stud before I saw your video👍
Thanks. Yes point 3 of the instructions should say:
3. On right side of garment, insert part A through hole from right side and position on recessed side of die. Place part B on shank and hammer together firmly with tool 2 (with protruding end) - Diagram 1.
Omg thank you so much for saving my sanity!!
Thank you 🙏 so much for your video. I see this was made over a year ago and Birch still haven’t changed their directions on the back.
I thought I was being as thick as a brick not understanding how to do it. Thank heavens you have given me back my insanity with the instructions 👍👍👍😄😄😄
I should say SANITY 😂
My wife was so confused and I thought let me have a look. I nearly jumped out of the window as well. After throwing the instructions in the bin and kick the bin down the stairs I tried to put the pieces together. When it worked I thought it best to just put it up on RUclips before the asylums get filled. I’m glad it helped.
@@shannoncooper5524 😂🤣😅😂🤣
Legend mate, was ready to return the bloody thing ☺️
Just broke two pieces before watching your video and learning the instructions were wrong. Thanks!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
BTW love the baby boots.
Haha, guess what I was about to do!!! Thanks for the video 🙂
Thank you so much, I almost went through a pack before I watched your video. I’ve just discovered we have the wrong tool in our kit. It’s splitting the shaft, very unhappy with Birch. But very glad it’s not just me trying to follow those instructions
OMG, thank you so much. I munted the first trial with the stupid hole punch tool 1!! Can you tell Birch to use your videos for instructions. You're a legend!
Thanks very much for this great video! Super helpful and saved me a bunch of wasted fasteners. Cheers :)
I had the same problem, many thanks for this.
I believe so. My wife used it on leather that was about 1-1.5 mm thick. It worked ok. I hope you have a win.
You are a life saver. Thank you!
Thank you Shannon, I now feel so much more confident in using this tool. And yes the instructions on the back of the packet are rubbish.
Thank you so much for this video, like you, I managed to use the wrong tool first. I ended up hammering the metal sheath back inside the puncture tool and the more I used it the further that broken piece disappeared inside the tool. Thank you so much again, I really appreciate it.
I’m so glad that it helped. Crazy that we needs videos to help with products we buy. It’s good to know that as a group we are not all mad. This tool and instructions almost put me in the asylum.
Thank you! I couldn't figure this out for the life of me!
Thanks so much!! I was so confused!
Bless you! I'm not stupid...but those instructions on the card are!! Thank you!
All the parts pictured above come in the same kit.
Thank you so much, I did the same errors as you did LOL, yes instructions are terrible and I'm using a different brand from bunnings and stuff up the hole puncher too.
thanks for that helpful info. I didn't have the instructions anyway so this was good. Was hammering away on the deck and dropped the hammer, board and metal mould for sitting the top in over into the bushes. Retrieved the hammer and board but will never be able to find the mould!! ;-( Now I'll have to go and buy a new kit anyway, just to get the mould. Now I realise why every kit has those tools in it - yes, you can lose bits out of it lol. thanks
Thank you so much for sharing
Very helpful video. Thanks very much!
Thank you so much. I did the same thing damaged the tool 1 😂
Thank you so much, this kit was doing my head in!!!
Yup. That's why I'm here. To confirm I don't have Alzheimer's or dementia and can't read or understand instructions anymore lol. (p.s. I DID get that the tool with the hole was to pierce the fabric, but I had to go have a cup of tea and a big lie down trying to make sense of the rest of it...) THANK YOU.
Thanks your a life saver 🎉
Fantastic video. Thanks for doing one
Thank you! Life saver 👍🏾
Extremely helpful! Thanks!
Very good thanks so much
Thank you very much
I have this exact kit only gold and I ruined about 3-4 press stud pieces thinking I got it wrong, or did it crooked and going over the instructions, trying again. Nope, they were wrong.
Legend!!! Thanks heaps!
Your video is great. I followed your instructions and my fastener does not clip together. I can fiddle and get them together with a small click but then they fall apart. Can you help me?
Thank you so much your a life saver.
I used the wrong long piece that you hammer and now it’s stuck in their diagram piece C
If the instructions aren't right you need to write to Birch and let them know. I have used these snaps many times back in the 80's but they had a different tool and was so easy
Lifesaver!!
I have install the snaps as you said and now that I have it done they won’t close. They close perfect when not install and won’t when I put them in the fabric, any thoughts why this is happening.
Life saver 🥳
Does anyone know if it is possible to cover the button? (part A). I'm hoping a can cover with a circle of cloth with a draw string stitch to hold it tight underneath and then jam the cloth between part A and part B during step 3. Anyway I will give it a go.
4 years later and the terrible packet instructions are still the same. Birch should give better instructions or none at all. Thanks so much for your help 😃
Awesome
what a legend, thanks heaps!
Thank u so much. The diagram on the packet is misleading!
Could I get a closer look at punch tool? Just so when I'll run down to Spotlight that I don't get the wrong one. 😂
can this be used on leather>>
Yes it can
Wow... I just aged 10 years... showing how to do it would have sufficed...
Thanks for uploading, the bloody instructions on this thing are really misleading
Thanks for the video....but goodness less talk more action next time....
