Thank you John Singleton for your art! RIP.
I love seeing black people in roles where the character is not screaming, I am black. Mahersala played such a full-bodied human. He was sexual, intellectual, weak at times, he knew racism existed. I just loved him in this role!
Agreed!
I'm white and saw the same thing.
Ali has this huge gravitas about his presence. You believe his characters.
Mahershala absolute KILLED this role too...glad they got out of their way to see the possibility and made it work.
yep. He kills every role.
True Detective S01 and S03 were awesome.
Thank you for saying that.
Yes!!! Agreed!!!!
and s2 lol
RIP, John Singleton.
Nic Pizzolatto is smart AND gorgeous. What a combination.
Best decision ever. What a great actor and performance
TD season 3 was pretty good - bordering on great. Performances undoubtedly carried the season. Can I also say that Stephen Dorff isn't getting enough love. The man was brilliant in his own right, played the character perfectly. Both Mahershala and Stephen complimented each other so well. Somehow, and quite ultimately though - at least for me personally - the season fell a bit short. Something about the story, the way it culminated, was somewhat anti-climactic. I think season 1 was just so insanely good, that everything else just doesn't measure up; we always want to contrast and compare with what has come before. TD has been it's own double-edged sword. Still, by TV standards TD is still miles ahead of the vast majority of programming.
His acting was painful, always pulling the same angry face.
Pizzolatto's writing is overrated. Too pretentious
I think season 3 might've been written to intentionally contrast the ending to season 1. In the first season, a series of murders and kidnappings turned out to be the results of a conspiracy with dark, occult undertones, which is horrifying but it still gives you the sense that the events were controlled. In season 3 on the other hand, the disappearance turned out to be the result of a series of very tragic coincidences, which in a way is even more nihilistic and depressing than season 3. However regardless of the answer to the final question at the end, we do see evidence that some of the people affected by the tragedy managed to move on to happier lives were they help the community in the ways they can.
Petition to get this guy to write a Philip Marlowe movie
Please bring Jake Gyllenhaal to season 4, he does a very good job as a detective character. Prisoners (2007) could easily have been a season of True Detective.
2013*
He looks like Beck Bennett from SNL
RIP
Took me a second - Course, John Singleton RIP.
Black Heritage Month
I loved season 3!
Pizzolatto should be grateful that his actors did a top notch job. His script is overrated.
He plagiarized too. I hate when I repeat that to people but it's true.
@@heymeRaj he plagiarized? From who?
@@khalil4030 he'll probably say Ligotti's 'Conspiracy against the human race' for season 1 of TD
@@khalil4030 He also plagiarized an Alan Moore's Top Ten quote for the ending.
Plagiarism
Well said Nic
Genius
Nic is an amazing writer and storyteller !!
All 3 seasons of True Detective where fantastic in my opinion. Name me any show with better character development in just 8 episodes.
Most shows take 8 seasons and you still learn nothing about the characters.
Also 4:09 is basically what happend to Game Of Thrones, but those two writers just showed they are not actually writers at all.
Just show runners.
Enzo Bagijn Season 2 of True Detective is unmentionable. There was no flow or empathy for any character as season 1 showed. Im starting S3 and will comment accordingly.
Sam Esmail staring at him thinking: "I wish I was as cool as you Nic" Seriously, when Elliot Alderson talks about the world's flaws Rust Cohle comes around and shakes his hair and says: "You don't know half of it kid"
Rip John Singleton. Damm this looks so real ... like they just made it.
Ali was absolutely superb in this role, but the third season as a whole kind of let me down. Ali's performance was the only draw for me.
Finds oil once, then thinks he's a sheik
most overrated writer in the biz.
him and D&D.
lol wtf are you talking about, D&D are exact opposite from Nic. He literary said in the video that his works focus more on the human being rather than the retarded and shocking twists.
Stop trolling loser.
Guys chill the fuck out what's wrong with him sharing an opinion
Mahershala Ali is the most over-hyped actor in recent memory. I've seen marble busts with more expressiveness.
Big lies
Anthony Warren
😂😂 ur so stupid
probably the worst casting i've ever seen in a high-level production,
he almost made the show unwatchable
Casting of Mahershala Ali?
Unfortunately you’re a minority, I hope it’s not cause you’re a racist but it looks to be leaning that way
@@jacobmorales323 -- FORTUNATELY, he is in the minority. As for him being racist? Who knows. But to believe Mahershala can't act? Dude is definitely a frigging idiot.
Ya he was horrible. Not even the great Stephen Dorff could save him.
@@jacobmorales323 it's because he's a terrible actor, but continue being a racist yourself
