3:58 " So many models these days where you don't get a pilot and it doesn't look very scale, but FMS always do that." I couldn't agree more! A scale model without a pilot is not scale, it's stupid. Thanks, Dom for commenting on that, and thanks to FMS for providing pilots in their models. Cheers to you both!
Because the battery is so far forward and a long way in front of the nose wheel. A heavy pack will really be pressing that little nose wheel into the ground. A lighter 5000 pack would probably lift off much easier 👌 Also when the grass is dry and the soil is firmer in the summer it shouldn't have a problem getting off then
@EssentialRC Not as much loss in flight time as you might think. Because 6000s are so heavy & your lugging around that extra weight. The lighter 5000s I've found you lose only about 30 seconds flight time. Which yes is a full circuit so a problem if you need another go around on landing. But I tend to just not taxi out. I carry the model out and then take off. Then you've got back that 30 seconds and the model will fly so much better being lighter
@@ControlAroundRockLines If you ACTUALLY watch the video you can see it flies fine with the extra weight. With those packs it might limit high alpha but I'm not bothered by that. I'll explore that when I get the 5000s. Taxing to take off is all part of a scale flight for me. I don't want to have to carry it out and plonk it down 🤣
Hi Dominic great informative video as usual I'm looking to maiden my SU27 tomorrow at baldock 🤞I've done the mods with nose wheel , I've also done the battery tray I did find taking the nose gear strut spring out and stretching it slightly seemed to help ! What elevator throw did you end up using for your maiden bud ?
Just out of curiosity Dom, I know its a pain but what was the final all up take off weight for your flight, battery and all. I am asking so that I can compare with my modified Freewing SU35 (1080mmx 1630mm )and I have the same 3060 1900kv motors installed with 825gm 6s 5000mah lipo. 3800gms auw. ( No leds, speed brake, sequenced landing doors , but with thrust vectoring, separate inboard flaps, tailerons, A3 super4 gyro. The finish on the FMS J11 is far superior to the old Freewing SU35. I fly off grass and angle of attack is the key though in my case the thrust vectoring also helps to lift the nose.
Good morning, I just purchased this model and I have some questions about centering. apart from the recoil of the battery, did you put weight on the rear to obtain the correct VG? Should it be centered at 145 mm with the landing gear extended or retracted? excuse my english thank you for your reply
Added some lead on tail, cut back of battery bay so pack as far back as possible and larger nose wheel, and smaller mains wheels for better angle of attack
@@EssentialRC 😄 I always get the vibe you love telling people to bleepin' mind their own business/'no, you don't know' every comment I read of yours, Dom. So blunt. Lol
@Life with Nick and Hayley You're putting words in my mouth buddy. I never say "mind your own business" and I don't "bleep" at anyone. I'm open minded. I take advice from some and assert my opinion politely with others. I don't see anything wrong with that. There's no rule saying we all have to agree. If this guy wants to buy this jet and make the nose gear more rigid. Go for it. Flying off grass it would be a mistake. It needs the soft trailing link to absorb the rough grass on take off and the shock of landings. That's what it's designed to do.
These comments are killer, check the recommended flying Weight, then weigh and see if your over it, to me that EDF jet looks slow it's like those rice cars you get loud and slow. Grass creates drag yes, but I have never seen it do this before. Enjoy the flying bud.
I'm guessing you mean slow on the ground? Several videos out there of it being a problem off grass. 6S5000 pack is recommended so I know I'm over. That's why the CG is difficult to achieve but that aside it doesn't get to take off speed in a reasonable distance...so the AoA improvement gets it in the air quicker. Once in the air it flew great.
@@EssentialRC yes it looks slow on the ground. Yes the AoA definitely helps. If the mass is over it will also effect the AoA as the model will require more speed to accomplish the same thing. Yes definitely looks great once it's in the air, but the plane seems dull. You would expect the model to be over the top. Super powerful, super fast and that as bought it will fly, you had to change the wheels and take off the mud flap. Then is it really a PNP or BNF. This is not your fault you just trying to help us make the plane more enjoyable, amd for that we say many thanks keep up the great work, and show us more helpful tips and tricks. Fly well and enjoy friend.

That landing was buttery smooth 🧈.

Very nice Dom , I might have to get one, afterburner looks amazing
The afterburners sounds like the real turbine!
Awesome model 👍
Indeed it is!
That was brilliant.
Unreal Toy and review.
Some lucky Boys have All the fun.
Glad you enjoyed it Jono !

Less flight time though. If I can get it to take off consistently I prefer the larger packs but I will get some 5000s from 4-Max.co.uk

Oooooooo Baby!! Gimme gimme gimme!
Thank you so much
Excellent review as usual.
That's great to hear. Do try my best to be impartial and share unbiased advice. Cheers !
Wow 👌
Thanks for liking
Its a repaint of the FMS Su27 and the same as the e-flite SU-30.

I have the same issue with freewing su35 taking off the grass. These jets on 6s need descent headwind. I use 7s and the difference is day and night
Interesting! Might try that. Thanks
Cool 👍❤️

Not something I have to hand but I'll find out and get back to you.
How does this compare to the Freewing Mig-29?
I had the very same problem with my grass.

@@EssentialRC Merci pour votre réponse, je vais faire le nécessaire. Mais Par contre vous avez équilibré avec GEAR DOWN ?
The suspention in the nose gear is too soft.
Nope. It's not. It's perfect to absorb bumps on a rough grass runway. If it was stiffer it's more likely to get snapped out on landing.

Which plane has the best visibility. The J11 or the SU27?
@@lwrandall Su27 quite easily I would say.
Y NO SU-57 EDF MODEL??? 🤣🤣
