This RUclips instructor is hands down the best for snowboarding. When I discovered his channel, I was an intermediate snowboarder struggling with my technique and occasional counter-rotation. Now, thanks to his guidance, I've progressed to an intermediate-advanced level. Even though I live in Switzerland, I would love to have a few personal lessons with him because he truly knows his stuff! Would love to learn switch riding
Hey thanks so much this is really kind! I do teach in Alpe d'Huez so have a look on my website for details for next season. Also I have a pretty good video on riding switch already so feel free to check it out, hope it helps!!! 😊😊

@@FurryNightmare666 I started snowboarding last December 2023 at 58 (at my daughters request) so I could be with both my kids (her and her brother) who are passionate snowboarders. Great video, I've been riding 15 years but I still like to go back to basics every now and then to try and sort any bad habits I may have gotten into. Cheers.
Dude, this video was a game changer for me. I was struggling to do the S turns because I was using just my heels/toes technique with a lil bit of shoulders. But I woke up this morning, saw your video and hit the slopes and I was doing the S so smoothly. Thank you very much
I’ve been riding for a few years, took one lesson on my very first day and learned the rest on my own. Turns out I’ve picked up some bad habits and I’m learning the proper techniques now. Your idea of center of gravity and torsional twist really helped me! I tried that yesterday and I feel so much more stable on my board. Your explanations are like no one else’s. Thank you for making these amazing videos!
This video just made the missing link I had in my snowboarding snap into place. I will forever remember this. Thank you for this video! Helped me so much forever 🙏
Malcolm, great information as always. id like to thank you for the time and work you put into your videos! you brought me from never using a board to being confident on the slopes and actively learning and focusing on technique while going down the slopes, this will be my 3rd Canadian season. once again THANK YOU !
Has everything to do with how long your board points down the fall line on each turn. He has a ton of lateral movement with “closed turns” which allow him to shed speed. He explains it well in several of his videos. Try to fully face uphill on your toeside turns. That’s usually where riders don’t fully commit.
It doesn't show on video, but likely he is just accepting a lot higher speed than you are ok with. If you are ok with going a bit faster, you don't accelerate as much as there is much more drag
Today was my first day of the season and I tried to work on the centre of mass over the board concept from your first video of the season but was having some issues on choppy snow. I intuitively tried learning the hip and knees forward a bit to get more control over each turn, which I think ties in with what you mention here, and it helped.
Thank you Malcolm! Your content is, without hesitation, the best snowboard content on the web. The way you simplify and logically step through each technique makes it very easy to translate my own riding and take it to the mountain. I don’t see any discussion in your videos about shoulder movement. When carving, should I be opening my leading shoulder on my heel edge and sightly closing of my leading shoulder on my toe edge to help pull the board around?
I can't remember exactly what I say I this video but I should cover shoulders a bit more: ruclips.net/video/eKmHng_lh74/видео.htmlsi=iTmXjROlXQTyfktj I am currently editing a video for more advanced carving that covers this a bit more. The problem with talking about using the upper body is that it's not a 100% all the time rule, you can use them to anticipate and pull you into a turn, and open them up to better angulate your body for hard carving, but it's only when the conditions allow and you're making the right kind of turns for that. I'm always a little hesitant to talk about some of that stuff as people who aren't ready for it start trying to do things that won't help them!
Understand and agree. It’s a very subtle movement but I find it helps engage my carve and when the board comes around, everything comes back into alignment and I’m stacked. Keep the great content coming!
i came across this video while I was looking through youtube to do some prep before riding for the first time. The diagram showing the center of mass help so much. I was able to do an S-turn within a couple of tries. You really made my day! I looked through my history just so I can subscribe to your channel thankyou!
I'm a beginner and I love your channel and videos. I've been twice now and am able to do S turns and I'm now working on getting my S turns smoother and less wobbly. One the things I find that works for me is the sensation of being up on my toes when I'm on my toe edge. I tried your lever strategy but found I just couldn't get myself to focus on it. I think the sensation of being up on the toes helps me ensure my weights in the right place...any advise for me?
Hi Malcolm! Thank you for the video. For beginners such as myself who falls quite often from catching an edge, should I prioritize learning and improving my center of mass changes as discussed in this video or knee steering & remembering exactly when to turn using the direction line & standing up in between that you mentioned in earlier videos? I just wanna make sure I'm prioritizing the most important concept. if you believe they're all equally important then I'll do that!
Thanks for that video, many people didn't believe me, when I said, that snowboarding is easy, you stand on the board, the board rides down, you step off of the board. Now I have proof!
Bonjour Malcolm - I was wondering, if possible, if you'd be able to post more videos of live coaching with intermediate riders? Of course, not sure if possible because of permission issues or if you don't record your coaching sessions, but would definitely help to see you coaching live. As everyone else, i've been watching your channel over the years and your videos have single-handedly saved me thousands of dollars on lessons and taken my riding to many new levels that wouldn't be possible with spending money. Appreciate the free content you put out and you are in the top 5 best instructors out there, if not the best. Merci beaucoup!
I like the way youre always glancing behind you to see whats coming . I always tell my son to stop at the edge of the piste and face up the slope ... you never know whos coming out of control . Great vid . 👌
Hey Malcolm, I want to thank you for your great videos, they really helped me to learn how to ride. I just returned from my first trip to the slopes, and in one week I went from complete noob to someone who can let it go and enjoy the ride!
Hey Malcolm, I've been riding since 1995 and still learn so much from your videos. This is a technique I've managed to pick up and it's great to hear it broken down like that. Will give me something to focus on if I get away this year.
Thank you so much Malcolm. I hope I'll progress this Season. Im struggling with my heelside turn. My back leg is alway kicking out and when I force it to make a gripped turn I often lose balance and fall down. It's strange because it feels easier when I'm riding switch.
I think what fools me in this video is how the camera moves with body instead of with your board, so it always looks like your body is staying still and you kick your board from the front to the back and to the front again 😅 instead of you following the gravity with your body and the board just tilting. But I think I get what you mean. Honestly can't wait to try it out in January. Your explanations are very helpful 🙏
Hi Malcolm! I cannot find any video regarding going through narrow and steep slopes simultaneously. I cannot imagine going there with short turns but rather only skidding and the worst thing ever counter rotation to control the speed or slow down when needed and not skid on one side of a board only. Could you please make a video about this? I cannot find a solution for this and feel very stressful going down on the narrow steep slopes. I believe a lot of people have this issue.
If it's only about 2m wide then counter rotation and skidding might be your best option, I never seem to find these pistes though! Ultimately in crappy conditions you might just be best off doing some crappy riding, always look for the better more enjoyable pistes!
This is really helpful! I'm currently only able to ride heel-side w/o effort, but it gets tiring fast. Every time I try going toe side, I eat snow lol Gonna try some of your tips this coming season!
Hi Malcolm. What kind of board are you riding. I se it's not the Amplid anymore. It looks like the Stranda Biru. A board i have my eye on! If it is please do a review of it🙏
Literally binge watched your videos until my 2nd time ever snowboarding at keystone, Breckinridge, and Vail. You sir saved my life and got my progression to carving and falling only 10% of the time 😂 trying to get confidence for the side hits tomorrow
How is your board (bindings set up)? You also have a lot of gap between your rear boot and your binding back on your rear led. What is your set up back there?
Another great video. We have a big family holiday this year Malcolm. We will be in Les Deux Alpes (11th to the 18th Feb). My nieces and nephews have learned to Snowboard from your videos. If you're about I'd love to get you to give us all a lesson. Not sure if you have a few pints but lunch will include a few pints:) We can see who's the man after 10 pints in the afternoon. Only joking for the younger viewers DO NOT DRINK AND THEN SNOWBOARD
I am trying to combine an effortless riding with the carving rule for a "pencil line" behind you and this does not happen often. The carving turns you were doing in the video were also not thin pencil lines in their middle section. So, does that mean when we are riding effortlessly we shall not be so demanding about the strict carving?
Hey Malcolm great video and great tips as always, I learnes my basics and everything from mostly watching you, but I would like you to ask to myb make a video on learning path, like what to learn first and then how to progress like what would be learning order of skills to round up ?
i have been riding for a few seasons now and i have burtons infidel disc bindings and im going to upgrade but to what is my question? i feel like those are not that good quality. Ive been looking at some step ons from burton, clew, nidecker and flow. its just so many choises lol, is it even worth it with step on? and if its not what normal type should i get? btw thank you for posting!. you have really helped me alot and other riders! but i do struggle with carvings but i get there soon!
Letting gravity pulling your body over the board is the opposite of what I’ve been doing because I’m afraid of falling so I always move my body away from gravity and let my board go towards gravity. So what you said makes sense. I’m going to try to change my mind set. Thank you so much.
i really like you videos and tutorials, helped me alot in the past by getting better at riding. Just wondering, are you riding alone most of the time or just taking time alone for the videos?
Taking time alone for the videos, you can actually see my friend who I ride with alot lurking in the background of this one waiting for me to finish blabbering on 😂
I should do my own video. I started to snowboard in my mid 40’s because I wanted my kids to do it. After 3 years, 5-8 times a season, I am better than all my kids which usually doesn’t happened to older people. Anyway, I am not the best but I can go down black and stuff. I know how hard it is for older people to learn. Most of these video training videos are good for younger people. They don’t know the age factor. There is a different way to teach older people. I saw so many trainers in the mountain tell people just do this and that. It doesn’t work for older people. We get hurt and do recover. We have to be cautious. I went up a ram and it came with 6 weeks of pain. Two years ago, I went hard on black and my shoulder took 6 month to recover. My daughter flipped, she recover less that 10 days.
Ride onewheels and you do heal toe turns and on trails on that I’m going snowboarding for the first time next month I’m expecting a harder edge and more locked in feeling
@@malcolmmoore Do you think a +/+ or a +/- binding angle makes it easier to carve and make quicker edge changes? Especially on icier slopes because I am snowboarding on the east coast.
can i ask why you didnt stick with the salomon danchaul and if you woudl still recomend it for someone doing 1 week a year or woudl you still suggest the Dada or even your new quiver the Stranda??
I gave my dancehaul to an electrician for doing a job 😂 nothing wrong with that board, it's probably more user friendly than the current board I'm on, the Stranda Biru, which is a bit more aggressive. Dada is great fun board, softer and more flexy, but I rode that to death and the base is destroyed.
great video as always - i had a question regarding knee steering. i’m trying to progress from up unweighted turns to knee steering and wanted to know - do you still need to stand up with the knee steering movement or do you stay in a position with knees slightly bent and use gravity to pull your knees/hips across the board like mentioned in this video? thanks!
You don't have to use knee steering with an up unweighted movement, but you can, quite effectively as you sink back down, think about sinking into front leg then back leg after to ease the board into and then through the turn. Honestly though, I'm kind of going off talking about all these up and down movements, it's not something I really think about when I'm riding, and apart from telling it to beginners to help them pass their centre of mass over the board, it can sometimes become a bit confusing. Because crossing your centre of mass over the board is the main thing you need to do, and if you can use your legs independently as you do this (as I explain at the end of this video just in case you didn't catch the end!) then that movement can be even more effective. Once you're pretty comfortable making smooth s shaped turns of various sizes on various terrain then I would revisit up or down unweighted movements in order to derive more performance from the board. Sorry, long answer and I can't now remember your question!
hi malcolm. love your videos. do you have any specific advice for a rocker-dominant board? my GNU GWO uses mild camber underfoot but rocker shape between the feet. i have a hard time locking into carves and find my back foot slipping out. are there any techniques that help with my kind of setup?
Hi mate, I had a Riders Choice last season and one thing that someone advised me and helped me was pivoting my leading foot knee when doing the turns. So in a sense slightly opening the knee on my toe to heel edge turn and closing it a bit when going heel to toe edge turn. Hope that helps! Btw tried the GNU GWO a couple of times and oh boy was it a fun board!
I have a GNU and a Burton Custom camber, on the GNU is very hard to do some carves because it always wants to skid, it`s more easyer on a camber but i love the magnatraction on the GNU, it`s a lot of grip on ice compared to my Burton :)
You’re really knowledgeable. There’s more to learn. If I give you important crucial advice will you accept it or do you block people who try to help you improve like most other big ego dudes on RUclips who can barely ride or only ride groomers. You are a cut above.
So there is hope 😅 I also have US 12 with a Burton Process Wide board. But I'm worried about how much overhang will be too much. Do you have issues on steeper slopes?
I taught myself snowboarding last year and I was able to ride in the mountain. However, after one or two ride, my legs started to get very painful. Is it because I'm not doing it the right way?
Thanks for another helpful and informative video, great to see your content coming through regularly again. On a side note is that the ‘Biru’ and how is it??
Yes, and so far I'm loving it. Gonna try and stick to 2 boards this season. Nidecker Sensor Plus for everyday teaching, any park and just cruising around, but the Biru when I want to start carving a bit harder or riding powder!
small advice. you can explain to your viewers that if they notice the track you leave behind is as wide as the edge of the board showing that your remaining on the edge and not on the bottom flat side of the board. just a small pointer.
20 year newbie here...meaning, got my first board decades ago, even progressed to more expensive kit...to this day, I don't go beyond green circles or bunny slops or blue square run when I'm feeling ok about being concussed. How much are we supposed to rely on ankles? I barrel down the mountain and when I toe edge or whatever I honestly feel extreme tension in my ankles...almost to the point I feel like bones and tendons are on the verge of injury. My mates have never taught me, and I have never enjoyed the sport, I'm just anh old skate boarder who considered snowboarding to be the natural progresssion....I can make it down a mountain but honestly don;'t know what I am doing
Honestly it's hard to know what to say but if I were you I would get an instructor to see what you're doing, you shouldn't feel extreme tension or be on the verge of tearing tendons! Good luck 🙏🙏
I'm working my way through your vids after discovering you on my return from a boarding trip to Andorra just over a week ago and struggling with a few things. Although I won't be going anywhere for another year, I may go to our local indoor slope to practice. Are you able to help with something. When I did my lessons indoor a few years ago, I was taught to lift my toes to turn onto the heal edge and then lift my heels to get onto the toe edge. I use this pedal style motion for controlling most of my turns and it's clearly bad practice as my calves were burning after day 1 and as I got through each day on the slope things just got more painful. How can I get out of this habit of using my toes so much? I just couldn't switch it off for the 6 days I was on the slopes. I've watched your posture and turning vids and all makes complete sense, I just need to replace these bad habits with the correct ones, it's just never that easy. Thanks
Yeah I don't like this habit for this exact reason, it's super fatiguing. Try this video, hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/BqJcXN4W0fU/видео.htmlsi=LfkxOyFrIM3M5UbO
I am so afraid of the speed I start gaining that I pretty much just keep going on my heels down the hill or doing a falling leaf. Do you have any advice with the speed issue please?
In all honesty, I've never seen anything like this. Youn are riding down a freshly groomed mountain with zero people. It's beyond amazing and beyond confusing.
Guys help me out !! I want a board that does a little bit of everything !! Please any recommendations? I was thinking about Rome mechanic and the never summer snow trooper !!

Ahh amazing thanks so much!! Real glad you found them helpful 😊🙌🫶
Malcolm never disappoints 😅
Thanks 😁✌️
Always amazed that Malcom rides on sunny days, on cord and sometimes all by himself. Heaven. Thanks for your detailed guidance.
Thanks for stopping by 🙌
I'm a beginner and I love your channel and videos.
Well said!
Great vid . 👌
Yeah safety always, thanks for watching 😊✌️
Hey Malcolm, I want to thank you for your great videos, they really helped me to learn how to ride. I just returned from my first trip to the slopes, and in one week I went from complete noob to someone who can let it go and enjoy the ride!
That's awesome to hear, thanks for sharing!
That's weird, hopefully it sorts itself out this season!
You are simply carving Heaven. Can’t remember a day of driving with no one next to you. Enjoy your life 🤙🏻
Thanks, you too!
Thanks!
Awesome you're the best, thanks!
The track you left behind is flawless.
👽
Your videos have helped me progress massively this season. Thank you very much!
Glad to help!
If it is please do a review of it🙏
It is the Biru! It's my go to this season!!
@@malcolmmoore i was hoping it was!! There are not many reviews on it. Are you going to make one? 🙏
My goal this season is to copy your snowboarding form. It's so satisfying to watch!
Literally binge watched your videos until my 2nd time ever snowboarding at keystone, Breckinridge, and Vail.
You sir saved my life and got my progression to carving and falling only 10% of the time 😂 trying to get confidence for the side hits tomorrow
Great to hear!
Luv this dude. Been putting these lessons to use, even this late in the Late Late Late Spring 2024 Tahoe Season.
Malcolm, may I use the first 12 seconds of your video in my website?
Thx you
Yes!!! I learn something that connects every time I watch this video
Amazing 🙏☺️
Great video. Thanks for the advice related to posture.
I do agree thathaving good posture helps. But the average, just like you mentioned also works.
How is your board (bindings set up)? You also have a lot of gap between your rear boot and your binding back on your rear led. What is your set up back there?
I really love watching you snowboard lol
🙏
Very nice mountain. Where is it?
Another great video. We have a big family holiday this year Malcolm. We will be in Les Deux Alpes (11th to the 18th Feb). My nieces and nephews have learned to Snowboard from your videos. If you're about I'd love to get you to give us all a lesson. Not sure if you have a few pints but lunch will include a few pints:) We can see who's the man after 10 pints in the afternoon. Only joking for the younger viewers DO NOT DRINK AND THEN SNOWBOARD
Haha, unfortunately I'll be pretty slammed over in alpe d'huez though as that is about as busy as it gets during the holidays!
@@malcolmmoore No worries Malcolm. Bet you didn't know but you are now a local hero with my nieces and nephews from Cork:)
this dudes got a very relaxing voice. makes it sound so easy lol
favourite youtuber on snowboarding
😍😍
Do you have any videos about warming up for snowboarding?
Not yet, but actually I have one in the pipeline!
Where is this? Such a beautiful and clean space!
thank you, looks very very smooth
thanks for your helpful tips
You're welcome!
I am trying to combine an effortless riding with the carving rule for a "pencil line" behind you and this does not happen often. The carving turns you were doing in the video were also not thin pencil lines in their middle section. So, does that mean when we are riding effortlessly we shall not be so demanding about the strict carving?
Malcolm thanks for making this video! May I know what's your binding angles? Many thx!
I'm either in +18-9 or +15-12 😊😊
@@malcolmmoore Malcolm thanks so much for your reply! +15-12 for more freestyle prone?
That's more more usual stance, +18-9 more for carving 😊
@@malcolmmoore Thank you again!
Hey Malcolm great video and great tips as always, I learnes my basics and everything from mostly watching you, but I would like you to ask to myb make a video on learning path, like what to learn first and then how to progress like what would be learning order of skills to round up ?
Great suggestion!
i have been riding for a few seasons now and i have burtons infidel disc bindings and im going to upgrade but to what is my question? i feel like those are not that good quality. Ive been looking at some step ons from burton, clew, nidecker and flow. its just so many choises lol, is it even worth it with step on? and if its not what normal type should i get? btw thank you for posting!. you have really helped me alot and other riders! but i do struggle with carvings but i get there soon!
i'm so on the edge on just jumping in my campervan and driving to the Apls... looks like soo lovely conditions... just a 1000km away
Letting gravity pulling your body over the board is the opposite of what I’ve been doing because I’m afraid of falling so I always move my body away from gravity and let my board go towards gravity. So what you said makes sense. I’m going to try to change my mind set. Thank you so much.
Hope it helps, good luck!
What board you riding this year? Also curious to know your binding angles
I'm on the Stranda Biru or the Nidecker sensor plus this season mostly.
+18-9 or +15-12 😊✌️🙌
i really like you videos and tutorials, helped me alot in the past by getting better at riding.
You should read gnar country for old men by Steven kotler
where is this wonderful place???!!!
I just started your vids and I want to apply those that I learned into
Practice to improve my skills
Ride onewheels and you do heal toe turns and on trails on that I’m going snowboarding for the first time next month I’m expecting a harder edge and more locked in feeling
Awesome video, finding the right balance is exactly the problem I'm having right now. Will really give these tips a try next time!
You got this!
What’s your preferred binding angles for your front and back foot?
Here I'm on +18 -9. My park board is +15 -12.
@@malcolmmoore Do you think a +/+ or a +/- binding angle makes it easier to carve and make quicker edge changes? Especially on icier slopes because I am snowboarding on the east coast.
how do you record with the selfie stick invisible like that?
Magic. Nah, theres a link to the product in the video description, but it's really simple to be honest!
can i ask why you didnt stick with the salomon danchaul and if you woudl still recomend it for someone doing 1 week a year or woudl you still suggest the Dada or even your new quiver the Stranda??
This slope is amazing where is it??
Saas Fee 😍 it's amazing!!!
hi malcolm. love your videos.
do you have any specific advice for a rocker-dominant board? my GNU GWO uses mild camber underfoot but rocker shape between the feet. i have a hard time locking into carves and find my back foot slipping out. are there any techniques that help with my kind of setup?
What’s your microphone set up bud?
You’re really knowledgeable. There’s more to learn. If I give you important crucial advice will you accept it or do you block people who try to help you improve like most other big ego dudes on RUclips who can barely ride or only ride groomers. You are a cut above.
I'm still learning too, always trying to perfect the turn!
Wondering what board and bootsize you have here.
US 12, board is a 157 Stranda Biru, kink up in description 👍
So there is hope 😅 I also have US 12 with a Burton Process Wide board. But I'm worried about how much overhang will be too much. Do you have issues on steeper slopes?
Nice vid Malcolm. May I ask what Jacket you're wearing in the video? Thanks.
It's my Yuki Threads jacket (you can use my discount code MALCOLMCREW if you're interested)
@@malcolmmoore Awesome, thanks!
Thanks for the feedback!
small advice. you can explain to your viewers that if they notice the track you leave behind is as wide as the edge of the board showing that your remaining on the edge and not on the bottom flat side of the board. just a small pointer.
Love your stuff mate. My go to channel was mostly Snowboard Procamp of Kevin, but I got a new number one now! 🥇
Haha brilliant! Thanks for the support 🙏😊✌️
@04:35 🤣 Without that curvature of space time, we couldn't go snowboarding :))
Absolutely!
Great vid! Thanks Malcolm. That a Jones Stratos you’re on?
Stranda biru!! 😊😊
"EFFORLETLESSLY" 💯
😍
I am so afraid of the speed I start gaining that I pretty much just keep going on my heels down the hill or doing a falling leaf. Do you have any advice with the speed issue please?
Where the heck are you riding and where do you get that untouched corduroy???????¿?????
In all honesty, I've never seen anything like this. Youn are riding down a freshly groomed mountain with zero people. It's beyond amazing and beyond confusing.

Hey Malcolm, love your videos as always❤ May I ask how to ride effortlessly in crud? Besides having a harder board, how can you keep control of pressure in varied conditions that are not 8AM groomed runs?
Well crud is rarely effortless, but this older video might help!
