Giannis Antetokounmpo - Freakish Finisher

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo is freaking scary. As if a 21 year old, quick 6’11 point guard with around a 7’4’’ wingspan with a lengthy stride isn’t mind boggling enough, keep in mind that he was 6’9’’ when he came into the league. The kid they call "the Greek Freak” is mesmerizing to watch, because just when everyone thinks he’s got nowhere to go, he seems to extend his limbs past the point thought possible, and does something crazy. It's almost like he's dancing this dazzling dance, and dizzying defenders while doing it.
    Giannis is "already a problem now", according to Kevin Durant, “once he starts knocking that jumper down, it’s going to be amazing to watch.” He’s transformed from just an athlete to a formidable defensive presence, to a surprisingly adept playmaker, but one thing has always been consistent: his ability to finish in an unorthodox manner. He finishes with either hand at an impressive clip, and has a variety of tricks he pulls out to throw defenses off. He’s got that euro step down, and it’s because of his lankiness and strange stride that he can throw and keep defenders off balance. He’s also improved his spin move (turning over both shoulders with ease now), and throws in a few pump fakes and stepthroughs just for good measure.
    I was originally going to make a video about his funky footwork, but I decided that his footwork is what allows him to get to where he wants to go, and he wisely always wants to get to the rim, so I decided to lock in on his finishing. I went back and forth with the idea of including alley-oops and putbacks, but those are also components of one’s ability to finish, so obviously they are included. All these highlights are from the 2015-16 season aka the Giannis Renaissance-is.

    everybody talks about how he should add a jumper to his play. if you actually watch his games you can see that he already got that , its just a matter of time til he starts to trust his shot . the matter is that bucks are weak as they are now. and kidd keeps giannis out at the 4th period for like 7 out of 10 games. . he should trust him more. not only for bucks , but for his own improvement of the game . keep going giannis . cant wait to see you at the top

      +Youthanasia131313 I don't think it's about adding a jumper necessarily, but you're right. As the season has progressed, his jumper has gotten smoother. If his ability to knock down jumpers gets to even half where he is in terms of finishing, he's a waking nightmare.

    • @springtime1009
      @springtime1009 8 лет назад +3

      +Youthanasia131313 to be honest your right he fixed his shot mechanics in just 3 years in the nba, however the biggest problem is confidence in that jumpshot. As well as he doesn't have a lift when he shoots, when he spots up he needs to implement more leg strength when he shoots

      As of May 2015, his max vertical reach was 12'2". He's probably gained a couple of inches with more strength training. Highest recorded all-time is 12'5.5" by D.J. Stephens (D12 had a comparable reach in his heyday).

    Giannis A. finishes like I do on a nerf hoop. His length is off the charts. It still blows my mind that he plays a lot at the PG position. He's a blast to watch. That "Euro-step" is insane! I was so surprised he didn't test the free agent market. He's loyal to the Bucks and they gave him a max deal without a moment of thought. I expect he's only going to get better.

    He needs to pick the 3 ball back up again. He has everything else if he does work on it, he will be a force to be reckoned with in the NBA. He has PG ball handles and is very quick. Clearly this kid is a future MVP. He's a few more years until his Prime. So he does have room to improve before he explodes into a Top 3 player.

    I do believe next year's averages of Giannis would be around 21p 9reb 8ass 2bl 1.5st which means more than 20 triple doubles...put it in a different context i do hope he will be the first player ever in NBA to record more than 1500point , 500reb,500ass,100st,100bl during a single regular season...or in other word a top20 player on every freaking statistic...so Giannis stay HEALTHY and keep up the hard work

    • @zenodee

    People say he needs a Jumper, don't watch him play. The REAL problem with him is, he's new to Basketball. He literally has been playing basketball for only 6 years, he's going to be The Greatest Buck ever! If your watch him play, you can tell he doesn't have LBJ, Kobe or Duncan type of IQ Same as Jabari. In Three years Him & KAT WILL OWN THE NBA. Jabari needs more Minutes, sometimes he'll be WIDE OUT and you could see he's Thinking rather than Reacting.
