I HATE those Bulgarian Split Squats, But, Josh, you are RIGHT!!! They are SO EFFECTIVE, and you do need to let your knee go all the way down to touch the ground slightly.....GO SLOW when you do them and don't jerk up.....go up at a moderate pace. Have fun.
Calves are mostly genetic my friend, as much as people can train them you’re very limited if you have skinny quads you may grow them a little bit not much, you can see many big bodybuilders with not good calves it’s just genetics mostly. It’s a small muscle to begin with so you’re very limited on how thick and big you can grow them. Mine are pretty solid but that’s just genetics I never work calves

Easy to ask questions... but, with lef muscles already tightened, adding weight is a purely one's preparedness 😊
