This could be the story of my Grandfather. He grew up on a farm in Tennessee during the Depression. He was a Marine during WWII where he earned The Silver Star medal. He married my Grandmother (who was also a Marine) and loved her until the day he died. I always think about him when I hear this song. One of my first real heroes.

The man the myth the legend AKA Jamey Johnson. Until you are actually there you have no idea the power this song has over people. Alot of leaking eyes. You should react to Stars in Alabama

My Grandmother was born in 1919 and one day when I was still pretty young, I was sitting in her living room with my father's brother, probably a holiday. And something about the depression came on TV and I turned to her and said, "Grandma people from your generation always talk about the depression but I 've never heard you say anything about it, why is that?"
And my Uncle laughed and she looked up with smile and said, "You want to tell him?" and he said, "Because the depression never came to your grandmother's house." And I must've looked confused so she said, "Before the depression, when I got up in the morning before school, there were Chickens that needed me to pick up their eggs and cows that needed milked and after school there were eggs and milk that needed delivered. And when the depression came, there were Chickens that needed eggs collected from and cows that needed milked and the only thing I knew about the depression was that I had to take a few extra street cars to do deliveries. That and I remember Daddy took a lot of IOU's that he kept in a big box and one day, after things went back to normal right before WWII, he took that box out into the back yard and set it on fire."
And if that didn't put a lump in your throat, I didn't tell it right.
That kind of put some color in the pictures for me. They say as long as someone speaks your name you're never really dead. Her name was Ruth Virginia (Clifford) Mollick and she lived from 1919 to 1999.

It was a hit. It won the ACM Song of the Year in 2009. It's his best known song that he recorded. George Strait made his Give it Away a hit, too.

I remember this song coming out and being big around 2009, during my senior year of high school. Family and my best friend went on a long distant elk hunting trip in Colorado. I remember listening to it once more, when it came onto the radio as we were driving back home, going through New Mexico in the middle of the night, with a ton of stars in the sky.
On our way to Colorado, I remember listening to Metallica's new album at the time "Death Magnetic" with my friend on his Mp3 player. Specifically the song "The Day that Never Comes".. It was a 16 hour non-stop road trip.

Memaw or Mamaw is a southern term give to your grandmother, usually on the maternal side. Therefore, you would have Grandma & Grandma on the father's side then Papaw and Memaw/Mamaw on the mothers side.

This is one of my favorite songs ever! I tear up every freaking time. The chorus applies to each verse in a different but still hugely significant way!
I'm thinking bc you're a photographer, this probably hit extra for you. Added to the playlist, right? So I'd love to see your next reaction to Jamey Johnson be "High cost of livin". Then get back into some Chris Stapleton. I don't think you've reacted to "Might as well get stoned" yet.
Love your reactions. Keep em coming 😁

I wish I had the pictures from my grandparents. After grandma died about 10 years later, my grandpa got remarried. After he died, she threw all those years away. My family you’d have to put in the dust bowl along with the depression and I hatred for FDR. He was not real heart helpful for farm communities.
