Glad to be of service. I'm trying to roll out as many videos on anything I can think of that would be helpful to people with their restorations. Of course, I only know so much and can only be helpful to a certain level. :)
Once again, great video. Your videos have been invaluable while rebuilding my T150 and Dana 20! Question - After doing a bunch of reading about what gasket to use when mating the T150/Dana 20, I used the "open" gasket (same one you used) since it appears there is fluid transfer. My rebuild kit came with both open and closed gaskets so I'm still a bit unsure of which gasket I should have used. Have you reached the point of driving your CJ to see if you have fluid leaking all over or if all the fluid has drained into the Tcase? I'd be curious to hear how the gasket is working out and whether or not it was the correct one. Related question - any idea why, if the trans/transfer case share fluid, the fluid recommendations are different for the two (GL-4 for trans, GL-5 for Tcase)?
I had put on the gasket with no holes in it originally and it leaked all over the place. Since replacing it and using Permatex Gasket sealer amzn.to/3DZvjBT (you want to use this on any paper or cork gaskets) I haven't had any leaks or issues. Been about 500 miles on this transmission.
@@coolguy_CJ7 I have a Haynes manual that calls for 80W-90 GL-4 in trans and 80W-90 GL-5 in transfer case. That's where I was getting confused as far as fluid transfer. I checked my factory service manual and it says to use 80W-90 GL-4 in both. I'm going with the factory manual specs! So, just to confirm - you're currently using the gasket with no holes (with gasket sealer applied) between the T150 and Dana 20, right?
@Cool Guy Great video as always. In connection with the comments above, I just had a T150 and Dana 20 gone through and rebuilt in a 1976 CJ7 with the 304. I was having a restoration shop do some tub work and they installed the transmission and transfer case back in the frame and mounted it up. I have about 10 miles on the Jeep now since the rebuild and I’m getting a steady gear oil leak, especially when driving, between the transfer case and transmission. I’m wondering if the gasket with no holes was used? Is this similar to your experience. It sounds like you first used the gasket with no holes and had a big leak. You then changed to the gasket with holes and haven’t had any issues since. Is that correct?
Yes to both. Just the main block and head. Valve cover and pulleys, powder coated semi-gloss black. Timing chain cover, water pump, and thermostat housing, powder coated in aluminum silver. AMC engine paint over engine primer: Seymour EN-66 Hi-Tech Engine Spray Paint, AMC Blue.
love this guy, i've got a 79 cj7 with a 304 v8, and these videos are very helpful, thanks man\

Where are you getting the fluid recommendations from?

Did you paint the block and cylinder heads? If so, what paint did you use?
