I love Boha's interpretation of the Mendelssohn so much. It has a maturity that is beyond her years, yet it keeps a youthful energy to it that is just astounding. Wonderful Job!
Can we just talk about how difficult it must be for the jury to decide who gets which prize? Like damn, I would feel so bad to give someone a fifth prize because they are all so good
It can indeed be quite random. I sat on a jury with two other musicians, and each of use chose a different winner for different reasons. Ultimately we had to choose one, but it just becomes a question of who argues the loudest.
It's not that difficult as you might think, especially when we are talking about juniors. Violin playing is such a sublime art that it's next to impossible to be perfect on all counts at this tender age. So jurors mark the sound quality, the style and artistic presentation, count intonation mistakes, technical inaccuracies and so on. At least it's a lot easier with fiddlers than it is with pianists who all play the same piano and sound more or less alike.
Hello to the fellow twosetters! Just a quick reminder that we should focus on the competitors and respect their hard work by not spamming twoset comments. Let’s enjoy their wonderful music together!
@@ChiefHerzensCoach Lmao why are you so pressed? I literally uploaded this comment before the live stream started because during the last ones people kept spamming two set comments while the musicians were grinding their asses off. Grow up you little troll. Any musician would want people to acknowledge their hard work. I’m saying this because I know what work ethic and respect is. You obviously have never worked hard for anything in your life.
Am I the only one who absolutely adores Kento's violin? What a tone! It manages a very dark G, but still sings in the upper registers on the E string. So many overtones too! Absolutely no dead spots. Of course, his playing and expressiveness are the stuff of legends.
@@jenlai6219 His interpretation is deep indeed, but he should further work on the sound quality (just compare his sound with that of Maria Duenas - the winner of the senior group).
Loved Keila. But I'm now a fan of Boha Moon and Kento Hong. Hannah and Edward were great too!!!! They were all amazing (Non musician's opinion here though). Best of luck to you all.
Because it’s very hard to tell whether that’s the microphone setting or what have you. And because it’s not necessarily a desirable musical or technical quality.
In 2018, the competition level is even higher. Finalists have to conduct the orchestral and there’s no mic for amplification. That year, Chloe Chua (age 11) and Christian Li (age 10) joint first prize.
Agreed. Not sure how she wasn’t first, as she is more advanced and more technically clean than either Keila or Edward. I didn’t find any of them especially mature musically.
You know it’s a serious competition when a girl who got into Curtis at 12 gets 3rd prize. Her playing absolutely blew me away, she has such a mature tone, but there are still players better than her. It’s incredible! This just goes to show how big of an accomplishment even making it into the Menuhin competition is.
They are all wonderful musicians no matter the results are. I am a violin player. I think all of them deserve respect and appreciation from the audience because of their hard work and their time. Give them applause!!
They are all so wonderful, but I think Kento Hong edges out the other competitors for wearing Twoset merch for his interview with them, I thought that was so sweet EDIT: and I meant that for the audience award. For the competition, I'm voting for a five way tie.
Kaila was my second favorite of last round, top one for the finals - glad she won! She made me feel something... Congratulations to her and everyone else for making it this far and playing so beautifully!
From this moment I'm blown off by Hannah and Keila's playing. Keila's sound is so catchy and kinda give out nostalgic feel. Hannah sounds bright and so skillful. Gogogo !
are you mocking her? I can't imagine how difficult it must be in such a strange circumstance for a teen. Do you expect further perfection from each person?
@@Humbersox Obviously not! I think her reaction was perfect! She stayed polite and she looked relieved. If it would be me, I would probably be worse! XD I just thought it was funny. I really didn't meant to offend anyone.
I judged based solely on the Bates piece and I pretty much came to the same conclusion as the final judging. Bravo to all the violinists you are all winners.
Bringing so much joy - each competitor at all levels. Thank you to them for choosing to bring music into the lives of others and themselves. Congratulations.
Good luck to all the competitors ❤️, You all are amazing and I'll just say enjoy the music, because that's what this is all about! And twoset community get ready to destroy our self esteem🔥❤️🎻 Pd: sorry about my english i am not a native speaker lol
It's very interesting to hear the different interpretations of pieces. The first piece was played so well, so different to the way Ray Chen plays it. There were parts I loved the way the first violinist played it more than the way Ray plays it, but overall I think I like Ray Chen's version better. As a cellist myself I just really love music and the fluidity of it. Her version is so extremely different from that of Ray Chen. I really love that about music just the fluidity of it and the different interpretations of it. Edit: Now that I've listed to the first violinist again, I don't know which interpretation I like more. That of hers of that of Ray. It's both so radically different that they are almost too hard to compare. I really loved the way both players played it. Bravo.
absolutely, stunningly beautiful, all of these artists. What a thorough pleasure. Please include the name of each pianist too-they are collaborators, not backing tracks. ;-) Thank you!
Definitely, more of a challenge to play without the orchestra which usually hide minor insecurities and sound issues. These are extremely talented kids. Gave me a chance of observing the concertos in more detail with just the piano accompanying..
You guys are all winners, all should be proud no matter the result
I love Boha's interpretation of the Mendelssohn so much. It has a maturity that is beyond her years, yet it keeps a youthful energy to it that is just astounding. Wonderful Job!
COMPLETELY agree. Honestly, in my opinion, she was the best.

I really enjoyed Boha Moon's performance, I'll definitely keep tabs on her musical career
This is legit one of the best Mendelssohn I have ever heard. Wow
Am I the only one who absolutely adores Kento's violin? What a tone! It manages a very dark G, but still sings in the upper registers on the E string. So many overtones too! Absolutely no dead spots. Of course, his playing and expressiveness are the stuff of legends.
so lovely tone Boha Moon
i know right?!
Keila was my favorite since the semifinals! I loved her passion and musicality, I'm so happy she won
The Sibelius is truly amazing by Edward Walton
@@ChiefHerzensCoach me too; I love that Sibelius piece and his interpretation is great
Agree! His interpretation is deep, and I am really moved!
@@jenlai6219 His interpretation is deep indeed, but he should further work on the sound quality (just compare his sound with that of Maria Duenas - the winner of the senior group).
@@musicclassic5938 I think his pianist needs to chill. either that or the mic is too far from violin, too close to piano.
I want them all to win! Best of luck!
Five way tie! I'm all for it!

yes we are new fans of all of them. the beauty of competition is meeting them all and looking forward to hearing them again in the future
Wow! The Bloch by Keila is out of this world. Set a new standard for this piece IMO.
Y’all why is no one talking about Keila? Her sound is so freaking clean.
Update: OMG SHE WON THE FIRST PRIZE!!🥳
i know right!
@Andrew Camagay yes those were my three choices!
Because it’s very hard to tell whether that’s the microphone setting or what have you. And because it’s not necessarily a desirable musical or technical quality.
Keila’s playing! Totally mesmerising sound and musicality. Your humble attitude to serve music touches me. Bravo!!

I really enjoyed all that of them, Boha Moon’s dress is beautiful.
All these contestants should be really proud of themselves no matter what prize they got or not.
Edward’s Sibelius was f*cking amazing, he deserved the 2nd place or even 1st :)
I knoww he deserved to play with an orchestra🎻🎶
He is an artist, I would have voted him 1st or second!
Literally thought you were referring to Eddy from Twoset Violin lol
@@wiktorialatos1157 Well his was too...
Totally!
people don't understand how much violin is a life saver... such a beautiful art i have to say
What a pity Hannah Tam did not get the 1st prize! I'm a fan of her~🌸

Non musician here.
Never heard of Bloch, I thought it was Bruch.
Got teary eyes only after 2 notes in the beginning of Keila's performance.
keila definitely brought that emotion to her playing but personally, I thought Kento was the most exciting to listen to

Good lord, I will be NEVER able to be part of the jury of such competition. They are all so wonderful and evryone with their very own sound...
So happy to see Edward in the finals - playing the concero we had to cancel last year. Sooner or later, we will get it scheduled for you!
I hope all of the finalists continue their craft, develop, and go on to be top soloists.
I’m still sad that Seohyun didn’t make it to the finals, but congrats to everyone who did! ‘Twas well deserved 👏👏
Yes, I also think that Seohyun was good enough for the final round!
Totally agree that Seohyun Kim should be in the finals!! She's the youngest competitor after all~🌸🌸✨✨
I hope to see her in many competitions!
