  • The 'Plasmic' is Album surfboards board of choice for the days when the surf is small, below average, and you would rather not even paddle out. Could it be the best small wave twin on the market right now? I travelled to the Gold Coast in Australia to find out.

Hey Ryan, I've been thinking of grabbing one of these for a while now and think I'm going to pull the trigger on one for my birthday later this year. I like that you've compared it to the seaside in this clip as thats one of my current (and favourite) boards, recently picking up my 2nd dropping from a 6'0 down to a 5'6 and absolutely loving the boost in performance dropping down has given me. I've been tossing up which size plasmic to order as the 5'4 comes in bang on the seasides litres or the 5'5 with that little extra float. As someone who's ridden both would it be worth going up that extra litre or just sticking with my current volume? I'll most likely be opting for a PU as some of those resin tints look amazing. Keep the clips coming.

Thanks for sharing that mate, stoked that you like the Seaside and the volume drop has helped! I think go the 5'5, I had the 5'2 and it sat around 30.5L, which was 4L more than the Seaside. I definitely could have gone the 5'0, but it still would have had more volume than the Seaside which is a good thing I think. Does that help? Good luck, it is a sick board. Use uprights also 👍

@@TheSurfersJourney Thanks mate, it definitely helps. I had a look at one in a local shop at Phillip Island and was told the shapers Asher Pacey fins were a pretty good combo with the board. I rode my 6'0 seaside with a set of MRs earlier in the year and ever since I've been looking at getting a twinny. Down sizing my quiver has just been opportunistic recently took a chance on an ex demo 5'6 glazer, which I also had in 6'0 though when I bought them I was over 20kgs heavier so recently the bigger boards started to feel boaty. First sessions both new boards clicked instantly. I'm glad I did because I was initially looking at the plasmic in a larger size, and considering the price point I really wanted to get it right.
I'll let you know how I go.

Nick Blair Cab Sav is the perfect grovel board. It's way way cheaper than the Plasmic. Shaped on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. Mine is epoxy and a staple in my quiver.

Great review. Could you please review Sacrafishal Campbell Designs, would be awesome if you could.

Thanks for the review, really interesting. Could I please check what your weight/height is, to compare what the 30 litre you're surfing would be vs my own weight

Nice review! I have the twinsman 29 liter and waiting on the 5'4" 28 liter version. Just a little too much volume and girth at 29 liters which I believe hinders it's performance. There's not much nose rocker in the twinsman and I found the upper portion of the board "catching" in the wave face. Plus, the sweet spot on the board is small and can be inconsistent depending on the wave. I don't think it's as user friendly/multi-tool as advertised. I mean it will go straight down the line if that's all you want.
I'd like to try other models like the bom dia and insanity, but will need to see them in person and hold one under the arm. They're expensive here in the US, too. Not sure they are worth the extra coin as there are many options these days.

Interesting feedback mate, I would agree with all of that. My twinsman is the same 5'5 29L, and I wish I went the 5'4 or even the 5'3...Let me know how you find the reduced volume on the next one!

If you could only have a groveler, which would you choose? This one or the seaside?
Keep it up with the good work
    Thank you

Good question. I think the plasmic would be better in EPS, I say that because I really like the seaside, and know that the EPS construction feels good in small waves. If you bought a plasmic in EPS I think the price would be around $1600 AUD, compared to $1100ish AUD for the seaside. Both are fun boards and I don't think you can lose either way. I think the plasmic is better in really average waves, because of it's higher volume and therefore easier paddling, and speed generation through that extra buoyancy...My 5'2 Seaside is 26.5L and the 5'2 Plasmic is 30.5L...(If I had my time again, I would go a 5'1, as the 5'2 is just a bit too buoyant). I also think it depends if you like twins or quads more. For me surfing a twin makes me use my rail more and be less 'flicky', while the quad can be surfed a bit more vertical and progressive like a thruster...I hope that helps!

Thank you very much. It really helps a lot. Surfboards are getting pretty expensive and all information is useful. In small, weak waves do enjoy epoxy boards and the buoyancy. The boards fell more alive and responsive. I had the same board in EPS construction and PU and it his totally different feeling and performance.
