I blasted through this entire game in one night, and the entirety of it made me feel like I was dreaming. But Spamton definitely underlines that more than ANYTHING in the chapter.
This dude has had much more significance than I thought of at first. The undeniable ties to Gaster, the talk of the soul at one point... And not to mention how Ralsei was acting weird this whole chapter, as if he's aware of more than he's letting on. Now here's a good comment. actually dropping some information relevant to the topic, and no saying too much. though you do get a liiiittle far into implying theres more if someone had just actually missed the bonus content. Anyway though, actually giving a good explanation for the character and their context which could be lost on people nowadays, and it adds to why this song would utilize features the way it does. old, robotic, voice call. explains the whole glitchy voice sample situation.
Time to review. I honestly think I like this song more than BIG SHOT, just because of how much fun it is in context. The song opens with Spamton's little melody. It has a pleasant rhythm, but also has a sense of awkwardness and even a little mischief. You aren't entirely sure what you should be feeling yet, which is perfect because at this point you don't really know how to feel about Spamton himself either. Plenty of people also pointed out that it uses the same instrument from Ghost Fight and Mad Dummy, which is also perfect. It's corny and groovy, but also spooky, which fits because of Spamton's creepy jigsaw doll appearance. Then the bass and drums come in. They'll play a more melodic role a little later, but they have a certain rhythm to them that is very methodic, like you should choose your next words very carefully, lest this creepy little guy do something really bad to you. This set of melody, bass and drums plays a second time, seemingly for building and settling. It allows the melody to soak into the listeners head, and set their expectations. And right when you think you have this song figured out... the hits come in. Those scratchy, bombastic orchestra hits that string together to make a melody of shameless consumerism that just makes you cup your face in your hands as you groan, "Oh, Gaaawd..." like another celebrity endorced ad for candy crush just popped up or somthing. I love it so much. And in the measure after next, you can faintly hear police sirens behind the hits. They're subtle enough not to worry you, but reinforce the feeling that somthing really, really scummy is going on. Then Spamton's vocals come in. Classic. They also have a certain rhythm to them that bring a pleasant groove to the whole thing. This is also the point where the drums show what they were made for. When the song first starts, they're a little jarring to listen to and feel kind of all over the place, but at this point they show that their wonky tempo is crucial for the rhythm Toby was going for and for the overall feel of the song. And after the layering is complete, melody, bass, drums, vocals and all, it all drops so that the song can loop, which is super satisfying to listen to. All in all, this track is highly underrated, and a personal favorite of mine within Toby's lineup. It's really cinematic when you stop and listen to it.
This song changed my life. I used to be a nobody, but when I heard this song I started taking every chance I could get to be a big shot. Thank you, [Hyperlink blocked]!
@@FlareBlitzBanana yeah i had high expectations from chapter one but was pleasantly shocked at how much better it was than the first. thoroughly exceeded all possible expectations
i haven't seen his fight dialogue again since i played it but even around here i know i suspected he might be corrupted in the same way as jevil, i forget if he actually alluded to gaster in the fight or if it was just how bizarre and incomprehensible he was combined with the fact the voice sounds like jevil's i don't think me expected him to come back as more than an npc though, when i saw the locked trash place i felt like it was suspicious and probably related to the bonus boss if there was one _(like jevil's keys),_ so i remembered to go back there when i got to the warp door in the mansion but i didn't expect _him_ to be there until i spoke to trashy.... and then i heard his shop theme and i think i knew what was going on
I like to imagine Queen and Noelle are like "Hey, why did it take you so long to press the button?" and Kris is just "I.... I don't wanna talk about it." Edit: The replies are better than the comment itself... dammit
I feel that spamton is far more important than he seems. The whole "strings" thing and the other stuff he says, he even mentions kris' soul. He gives you a dark crystal that shows you the real world for a second. Then, when Susie asks you if you're okay, and if you respond no, ralsei tells you to calm down and that you're screaming. Interesting stuff
And if you defeat him in a pacifist way and choose to say no kris shouts because they felt affected from spamton death when you cut his strings like the strings the player holds to kris there soul.
Spamton was the only one who affected Kris in terms of emotions. I mean, spamton asked kris to always meet him alone in terms of their deal, and Kris listened. And kris backing away from the new form of spamton, and the little dialouge after the battle ("kris, youve got goosebumps. You okay?") shows how spamton was the only one who did a bigger impact on kris' feelings.
For real, seeing this weird little man pop out of a dumpster was such a trip. This whole fight was such a trip, I did it at like 3 am while on sleep meds and genuinely thought it was a fever dream for a while

this is proof that toby's music can't be broken, even when he breaks his own music its too good, also the music is really fitting for the character being broke and broken robot sales man who will rob u blind, can't wait for what chapter 3's music will be like
@@Gleeful_Winner Except he was trying to do chapter 2 by himself, and gave up and recurited a team to get it out. A team he's keeping. It'll likely be much faster.
I like the way Spamton looks either like a wall eyed guy, a person who is laughing maniacally with their eyes going different directions or someone who is constantly stressed out but still puts on a smile.
I’m getting some strong “don’t hug me I’m scared” vibes from the “nows your chance to be a big shot” line. Who ever is voicing that sounds exactly like the voice of one of the characters from DHMIS
Ive never been so viscerally terrified by any character in deltarune/undertale quite like spamton... i really hate his lil cal vibes, but in a good way. He's a character you love to hate, yanno?
When i was playing a neutral route where i attacked everyone except the Sweet Cap'n Cakes, when i was about to finish off Spamton, he said "Press f1 for help" and before the final hit, he just said "HELP" He also had some different dialogue from after the battle. It was something like "How am i supposed to rip people off when people are beating me up" or something.
Im still thinking about when his eyes go staticy and he's just asking for help, i think that whatevers corrupted him is just surrounding Someone who's desperate and probably missed his friends, i feel bad for the guy just thinking about him being trapped by some sort of virus, something like that
The second version does, for sure. This is a strange Earthbound and Sonic CD mashup. Which is genuinely a thing that I thought would never happen, musically.
He's the hardest fight in Chapter 2 but he's definitely much easier than Jevil. He has less patterns and the ones he has are more predictable. I beat him in my third try
Go back to the trash yard when ya get to the mansion, and then walk left to find this guy again. That'll help you along fighting the secret final boss.
Even better that he can turn his hands into phones to talk to the "Man who speaks in hands". Good thing Kris doesn't need to though, as they have their cell (Hand) phone to hear all the Garbage Noise they want to.
I had to beat this guy twice because Noelle's sprite glitched and disappeared when she jumped over their traffic cones in the section where you walk talk and press buttons and i couldn't walk and had to quit the game and re-enter from the Steam Library. I'm not complaining about listening to this theme again though.
THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND MESSED UP EVERYTHING the first time I beat him I did the pacifist route but after I had to reset, I wanted to see what would happen if I killed him Turns out he closes his secret shop if you kill him so I can't even fight the secret boss now
I see this wasn’t just me. For a second I even thought it was intentional, like Noelle vanishing was part of the plot... then two minutes passed with nothing happening and I sadly went “oh...”
@@unkirbyjosuke1904 you would have to go incredibly out of your way to find out about spamton neo I dont think its THAAT bad of a spoiler. its like people talking about jevil from chapter one. a lot of people could miss the secret boss

@Thi_Usi I think you're underselling Undertale a lot. The pacifist and genocide and full range of neutral endings are what gave it any shot at achieving "meme status" in the first place. It doesn't have much intrigue in its core *plot,* but its *lore* is quite deep even without "secret files". The lore/worldbuilding is pretty much the core reason it achieved the popularity it did. People love their worldbuilding (just look at the popularity of the deepest worldbuilding in any media on earth for comparison, One Piece--to be clear, I'm not saying Undertale is nearly as deep as One Piece, but the core idea is there: give people a living, breathing world to nerd out over and they will appreciate whatever story you're telling in it that much more). With that said, I agree that Deltarune is shaping up to be MUCH better as a complete RPG. I already love it so much by chapter 2. And Toby is so much better at designing games now.
@@codetaku yes but deltarune is definitely cus one of the things i didn't like about undertale was the fight system, im not saying i hate it it just gets really repetetive but Deltarune changes that and adds a lot of new elements to fighting like the berdly fight
I've been watching Invader Zim for the first time with my mom, as it's one of her favorite cartoons and I know I'd like it. Spamton gives me vibes like he'd be a sort of one off villain in that show. Either Zim or Courage the Cowardly Dog, or Adventure Time. And obviously Mother, thanks to the Earthbound sampling in the song. Please tell me I'm not alone on this-
!!Spoilers ahead!! This dude's lucky his song is a bop, he's probably the hardest "boss" I've fought thus far. That's saying something, because Birdly's also pretty tough. Both of their bullet patterns are weird, but at leasr Birdly has a consistent pattern. The fact that he has a harder version, that I don't don't know anything about except for the fact he uses the yellow soul scares me.
which of the chicken nugget man fights you talking about, the first one or the one where he summons the werewires there's a major difficulty difference between those
@@qwertyuiop.lkjhgfdsa I think it’s the second fight, since you’re restricted to Kris and Noelle during the fight. Berdly’s attack patterns hit harder when there’s only two party members and one of them is about as fragile as Chapter 1 Ralsei. Thankfully, you can get rid of the Werewires in one turn if you get enough TP to use Sleep Mist when they’re spawned.

Hello there fellow tf2 fan

I blasted through this entire game in one night, and the entirety of it made me feel like I was dreaming. But Spamton definitely underlines that more than ANYTHING in the chapter.

This dude has had much more significance than I thought of at first. The undeniable ties to Gaster, the talk of the soul at one point... And not to mention how Ralsei was acting weird this whole chapter, as if he's aware of more than he's letting on. Someone said it's kind of surreal that you fight a guy like this and just go back to normal like nothing happened. Knowing Toby, none of it is coincidental.
I personally didn't notice Ralsei being weird throughout my playthrough, so please tell me what you noticed.
@@Staintocton after you fight the SECRET BOSS (Spamton NEO), Ralsei acts... rather strangely... when Susie notices that Kris is visibly frightened by the events that just took place.

I think Spamton may actually be the darkner equivalent of an Autodialer (AKA Robocaller), as they were much more successful at making sales pitches in the past (1997) before people caught on to the fact that they were just listening to a prerecorded salesperson and hung up. Nowadays people associate autodialers with scammers, who will try to get you to give up something *very important* (cough'soul'cough) such as your bank account information, promising that they will deposit much money into it. The fact that Spamton is *closely* associated with telephones, particularly old-style landline telephones is also evidence. Dialogue also seems to suggest that the vast majority of his business is conducted over the phones.
His presence within the Librarby is also easily explainable, as many libraries use or have used an autodialer to deliver automated messages about overdue books, late fees or other general reminders, especially in the past before E-mail, Robotexters or library apps came to much more widespread usage and given that the Internet is down during the course of the game, It's less likely that Spamton is related more to E-mail.

The explains why he's literally a puppet and why he keeps talking in [[prerecorded messages]]
It's really cinematic when you stop and listen to it.

i don't think me expected him to come back as more than an npc though, when i saw the locked trash place i felt like it was suspicious and probably related to the bonus boss if there was one _(like jevil's keys),_ so i remembered to go back there when i got to the warp door in the mansion but i didn't expect _him_ to be there until i spoke to trashy.... and then i heard his shop theme and i think i knew what was going on

I like the fact that you can hear the phone ring in spamton’s theme since it is an important part of spamton’s life
toby DID NOT have to make this go so hard. but he did and I'm grateful
I wonder if the "Knight" is the same person that's been buffing these bonus bosses
Dude have you finished chapter two I want to spoil somethin'
About the knight
@@halfastudio NOT YET still trying to unlock the secret boss before i finish
@@halfastudio your spoil may be wrong.
It’s more likely Gaster. Considering Seam’s “Dark, Darker, Yet Darker” line
gotta admit this one’s my favorite, plus the fight was so dynamic
