  • Multi-material 3D printing allows makers to rapid prototype more complicated designs at home than ever before! Not only is it possible to print with multiple colors simultaneously, but dissolvable support materials make it possible to print objects with geometries that cannot be made with single material printers! What are the different types of multi-material 3D printers and how do you set up multi-material prints? In this episode of Super Make Something Basics, we take a look at how to make multi-material models, how to take existing models and prepare them for multi-color 3D printing using Autodesk Meshmixer, and how to print with dissolvable support materials with help from the QIDI Tech X-Pro, a dual extruder FDM 3D printer that makes it easy for anyone to get started with multi-material 3D printing at home!

    Hi, could you do an updated version of this, meshmixer seems to have vanished and the Qidi Print software has changed quite a lot.
    I am also having issues with the origin exporting from cinema 4D as I then have to relocate the 2 files individually rather than the center on build plate (which also doesn't exist as a button any more)

    Extremely inciteful review; your showing the exact steps/settings you used is very helpful for someone like myself interested in getting their 1st printer but concerned about not knowing what to do once you have it. Good job.

    Hi there thank you for your thorough review of the QIDI X -Pro 3d Printer. Just got one myself and I'm very happy with my purchase. I am looking for your Cura settings in your Github page but I can't seem to find it. Can you upload them again? That will be really helpful for me. Thanks again.

    Is there any chance of a tutorial for using Autodesk to create that sign? I think it would be a great one that could be used for a few things. Finding a lot of videos on creating 3d fonts to signs and such but really struggling with auto desk fusion 360 I can't seem to get a bottom created for one I am attempting to build.

      You bet! Check out this video - it walks through how to set everything up and extrude the shapes for individual printing: ruclips.net/video/jhN4V4a4wmk/видео.html

    ....Just bought this printer and can't wait for it to arrive. I've been a 3D modeler for years and being able to make my models real is going to be amazing!

    I like the printer and I wish the can do Multi-Material X-max version of it. Build plate is too small for my needs )

      tpax3p A larger build volume for a printer that can produce prints of this quality would definitely be awesome!

    Really great video. So few go into the actual process to setup dual extrusion models. The X-Pro will likely be my first 3D printer. Q: Can you print ABS w PVA support material as well? And my other Q: did you have to experiment with settings/retractions etc. to get PVA + the other matierial (PLA or ABS) to adhere to each other... as I understand they extrude at different temps, and adherance could be tricky. Thanks in advance.

    not for nylon fiber filament, i think its like flashforge creator pro.. its diferent

    • @SuperMakeSomething
      @SuperMakeSomething  3 года назад

      Printing nylon would require an all metal extruder, like is found on the Creality Sermoon D1. Be sure to check out the replay of my latest livestream if you are interested in that printer!

    If you were to print with PLA & TPU instead, how would make them bond? I saw there are some options to make the materials overlap in other slicers, but have not found a similar parameter on this one

    • @SuperMakeSomething

      I have not tried this yet, but will report back when I do and have more info. If you find a setting that works for you in the meantime, please let me know!

      I don't have the X-Pro but I have done TPU/PLA prints in a different dual-extruder printer (Tenlog TL-D3 Pro). The two materials bond very well.

    "Generate Facegroups" would have saved you a lot of time.... It's under the Edit menu.

    • @Corbald
      @Corbald 4 года назад +1

      Also: In later versions of Cura, you can use "Merge Models" in the right click menu for a better alignment than Center on Buildplate.
      Also, also: PVA is great for low temp. stuff like PLA, but if you want a great, cheap support material for high temp stuff, then bargain-bin ABS is great for this purpose. ABS will dissolve in acetone (watch out, it's flammable and has a noxious odor!), but other materials like PETG will be unaffected!

    Hi there, I tempted to get a Qidi X-Pro ass my first 3d printer. Would you reccomend this?

    • @SuperMakeSomething

      Martyn Jackson Hi Martyn! Most definitely - I have continued to print with this unit after I published this video and it has required absolutely zero maintenance and handled everything that I’ve thrown at it. If your budget allows and you are looking for a great multi-material printer, this one gets my highest recommendation.
