Man I remember coming here with our mum n aunties years ago. Back in 92,93. Amazing memories with the whanau. Very spiritual place. Free kai in the big hall, a visit to the temepara. Watching the marching band on parade day. Lil spacie parlour. The atmosphere was electric. Visiting the cemetery at night with the cuzzies being told a cherub angel statue holding a bowl would have streaming tears that glow if we looked at it long enough haha. The coloured lights in the far distance at night on the southside of the Pa, we were told the lights were ancestral spirits of Ratana or members from the region (colours from the lights were the same colours on Ratana symbol, blue, red, white, yellow, purple too i think) Such a Very special place in my memory ♥️
In addition to that, we came back 5 yrs later in 97. I was 15. The cuzzy zellan n his band were on the main stage singing and the 2nd night we (me my brother, cuzzy awhina n twin sis joined the talent quest n sung “missing you” faith evens n p.diddy. Good times.
Many years attending the 25th from my Teens with my Grandparents, Walter and Ruth Smith, Apotoro and Awhina of the Faith, they've passed on now. Haven't been for a coupla decades now, I miss it badly. My Uncle Jack and Aunty Bella still have their Homestead down the Pa. Cool Morehu, Cool. Morehu through and through. Lotsa ❤
