    These 68 series locos are brilliant,I went on one to North Wales a couple of years ago,it was pretty nippy out of the station and accelerated up to top speed effortlessly,quick and quiet,that CAT engine is fantastic and does the job beautifully,a little bit of smoke while the Turbos spool up and then as clean as a whistle,outstanding.

      Same as the Deltic (starting up). A little cough as it clears its throat, then all clean

    I've just realised that 68007 formerly worked the Scotrail operated Fife Circle Line peak time services. It worked said services up to March 2020.

    When you think of the old class 37s with their lumbering growl and then hear the 68s high pitched almost turbine like whine you realise that technology has moved on. The 37s did a herculean job over the years and were true workhorses and were all over the network.

    • @Buck9672
      @Buck9672 3 года назад

      Agreed. I used to see them & 55's when I was younger in Glencoe going to Kinlochleven or to Fort William on the mainline. I'll never forget the noise from the 55's....we all heard it in the village :)
      Kinlochleven used to have a massive dark cloud above it when I was a kid there; one walk (The Devils Staircase) used to follow the Hydro pipes down to Kinlochleven then you know you're nearly home.
      Rio Tintan, or whatever you call it wasn't there when I was a kid.
      The smelter in Kinlochleven nowadays I don't know about; I'm retiring from my Job in England in a few months and going back home to where I belong. :)
      I'll be going back to Ballachulish

      Look at Road. and Rails EM1 Speaker. Just type in Dapol Class 68 with EM1 for demo. Bass Speaker so need auxiliary speaker. Think R&R do them in paired units anyhow. Pretty impressive. Eliminates the 'tinny' noise.
