i've worked with illustrator for an odd 10 years and i didn't know that in the appearance panel you could change the order of strokes/fills like with layers. mind.blown.
My graphic design class and I love your tutorials! I've made links to your older non-video Illustrator tuts in my class webpage and often use them to introduce new topics. Thanks so much for offering these publicly!
amazing!!!! That broke things down for me completely!! Thank you for sharing this so much - I had no idea I could use the appearance tab to change and move the stroke and cannot wait to test this out.
Excellent thanks! I am looking at the shirt graphic sample in the video (6:32) and realize that I like that one because of the little blue highlights and ticker offset. Guess have to experiment now.
Great tutorial. Nice and easy to follow along. I Recommend for any newbies (like myself) to do it a couple of times to get to grips with the 'text-appearance' panel.
Dont know why but i had to use copies in amounts 50, 100, 150 and 200 to get the same effect but awesome tut non the less ^__^ time the binge-watch the rest of your stuff
My mind just got blown by the ability to switch the text font by letter. I didn't even know that was an option with certain fonts. What did you push to be able to pull up those options? I couldn't figure that out by watching the tutorial.
Great instructions, thank you! Though have color codes changed? Mine seem to not match up exactly, a bit pail compared to yours. Using CS5 so I had to use a hex to CMYK converter. 😐
Love this man. My only question now if for screen print how can you now add over print strokes of about 2 pixels? For as a beginner Manual printer, these are a necessity.
Thank you so much, my only problem is as soon i pick up the stroke color it also changes the fill. I am sure it^s a setting problem but can't find it out :-( Any advice

I had the same thing happening to me, if anyone else is, make sure you are SHIFT-clicking. Just clicking will fill the "Fill" box instead of the "Stroke".
Thanks so much, man. This is going to work perfectly for my next design project. What's the shortcut you use to see all the alternative glyphs for each font letter?
If alternate glyphs are available for the typeface you are using, you should just be able to highlight the glyph you'd like to change and it will bring up the alternates for you to select. You can also open the OpenType panel: Window > Type > OpenType
Hey thanks for the tutorial! I am having trouble changing the text after I’ve added all the effects? When I backspace the text and add new letters it just becomes a cluster of shapes and is not spelling out a word… does anyone else have this issue? How can I fix this?
How do you change the individual letter characters options within the font? I know only some fonts offer this.. but I've not been able to figure out how to do it... and couldn't figure out the lingo to get a proper google search going...
You need to click and activate the Text layer in Layer window. Then go to Transparency and you will be able to click ond Make a Mask. It does not show if the layer is not selected.
You need to select the layer in the Layer selection window first. Then go to Transparency settings and click on Make Mask. If the layer, you are masking, is not selected as active (and you have selected different layer) - the function Make Mask will not work :)

Excellent tutorial, I struggled to change the stroke colour, it kept changing the fill instead. I assume that's because I'm using CS6?

I do not get the last part. I cant seem to find the mask button underneath the Transparency panel. Any advice?
You need to click and activate the Text layer in Layer window. Then go to Transparency and you will be able to click ond Make a Mask. It does not show if the layer is not selected.
@@Xmadish i still dont get it
You need to select the layer in the Layer selection window first.
Then go to Transparency settings and click on Make Mask.
If the layer, you are masking, is not selected as active (and you have selected different layer) - the function Make Mask will not work :)
Xmadish I will try, thanks
