I was in a restaurant tonight. The singer covered this and I asked him who wrote it. "Michael Hurley" he explained. Easy enough to remember. I was in Hurleyville, New York.
Hurley's version is wonderful... but he didn't write this song. Dave Bartholomew and Earl King did, the great Smiley Lewis recorded the original version for Imperial in the '50s. Testament to Hurley's deep and abiding love of NOLA R&B.

Damn I remember when I was jus getting off dramamine, seventeen years old. I listened to this song so much, hummed it so much to myself. The whole record made the process of getting off the drug more pleasant, but this became my favourite comfort song. Haven't listened to it in a couple years though. Just discovered it again tonight, and I'm smiling so much~ Damn I'm so happy right now! Thank you Michael Hurley~ You helped me get off drugs, and for that you'll have my lifelong gratitude, and this will forever be one of my favourite songs~
