My mom bought a dvc resale later in life and invited us to stay with her for 3 nights. I remember how amazing it was to stay at poly and AKL and just thinking wow I’d kill to vacation this way. When she passed she left us her dvc. That was truly the best gift I could ever receive. We’ve been going annually for 8 years now and bought a second contract.

Let’s not disrespect the All-Stars too much. Some of us haven’t forgot where we came from. Stayed there last year for a long weekend trip. I remember staying there in the early 2000s thinking this was as good as it’s ever going to get.

I agree with everything shared about the type of personality that benefits from DVC. I am a planner but I'm in Ohio. I also always have something planned or I would lose my mind (I work at a hospital). Growing up, we never had money for vacation so it was high on my priority list. I will add one comment: a friend of mine attempted to buy Old Key West points. They were told, sorry, Jeff Haslam already purchased all of those". 😉. Hey now!! Great show once again, totally enjoyed it. 💜

We rented points 2 times so we could "try before you buy" and loved it and became members. This is a great way to see if it's for you.

I was staying at the Poly when i decided to go on a dvc room tour at the bungalows. i talked about the flexibility and costs with an agent and have been a happy DVC owner ever since. At that time i was traveling to Disney every year - sometimes 3 times a year.
I now go on two trips a year and one is a big extended family trip which is now possible because of the grand villas

As someone, who has rented a house in Florida, for a pretty cheap price at around $1200 for the week, it wasn't worth it since I had to rent a van and leave the house "clean" afterwards....since being a DVC member since 2017, I haven't had to worry about transportation to and from the parks, doing laundry(I bring small Tide & Downy) and cleaning the room myself! I have NO regrets!

For years I thought there was no way I could ever buy into DVC until I found out about Resale Market. Derek summed it up perfectly. Literally no one who has gone from value to a deluxe stay has ever said "You know what, I like All Star Music better."
I'm also curious what factored into Panda's decision to purchase direct over resale and would he if he had it to do over again.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY YOU FOLKS ARE THE BEST!!!
Of all of the podcasters/bloggers who have a vested interest in selling/re-selling DVC, you are the ONLY ones who go into detail about the Annual Dues Surprise every Christmas. Everyone else glosses over that issue, but you folks mention the Dues and explain how to best prepare for them. I'm so glad that I bought from you in the past!

My wife and I have NEVER been planners. We usually decide on arrangements for trips within a month of travel. We bought into DVC because after watching your show and doing our own research, we saw the value. Lo and behold, we now LOVE planning our future Disney stays, checking into the website to see what's available, imagining the possibilities for our trips. It's a blast!

Loved the conversation. 1st vacation with the family (4 & 6 year old kids) was in 2010. Ended purchasing 100 points at Saratoga Springs with plans of vacationing every 2 or 3 years. Received 100 points from 2009! Recouped my $10,000 purchase price the 1st trip staying at Animal Kingdom for 13 nights is a 2 bedroom villa according to the rack rate listed on the door. Shopping for more points now that the kids are of age so the wife and I can vacation yearly at Disney World. DVC is a great value!

A friend of mine said she doesn't plan ahead so this wouldn't work for her, but I pointed out that most of the trips she took centered around birthdays , holidays, the Grand Kids school schedule, so really she already knew the days they would be going she just wasn't planning those days ahead.

It's also hard to justify the cost of DVC when you have access to Shades of Green. It's one of the original deluxe resorts on property with huge rooms, balconies, easy access to laundry, and the perks of deluxe resorts. Perhaps military families would be another category of folks for whom DVC isn't the best investment.

    • @mikew1986
      @mikew1986 Месяц назад

Shades of Green should not really be a factor for most potential DVC buyers as it is exclusive to military families, their guests and certain vendors.

    • @jeffhaslam9328
      @jeffhaslam9328 Месяц назад +1

To your point, shades of green does offer some affordablity for military members. However, the rooms really aren’t as comparable. No kitchens, the laundry is a pay to use system. The few rooms that have a kitchen or that sleep more than five are over $450 per night, which is still in line with a high moderate at Disney. And while it has deluxe benefits, it’s not operated by Disney which limits some benefits.

I live in CO, so I booked the dates I wanted and then found the airfare. I book SW airlines, and deals come all the time, so I can rebook and get a better deal. For my BCV and AU, I have to book out 11 months in advance. Otherwise, I cannot secure the deluxe studio. OKW are the points I use for the 7-month or less window dates. I love DVC, and I am grateful for Monera Financial. I purchased through them and paid the contract in cash a few months later with no penalties. When you find the best contract for you, Monera allows me to buy quickly and NOT lose the deal :) ....and yes, I also make payments to them, but my goal is to double my payments to get it paid off faster.

The hardest question to answer for us was, were we willing to vacation at Disney over the next 8-10 years? Well, we thought about it and decided there were enough festivals and other things going on that we could definitely plan trips over the next 4-5 years. A deciding factor was we’d be able to take our granddaughter and family every 2-3 years. As it turned out, we’ve taken her every other year and that’s when addonitis hit.

Remember how people said dvc fan was like a big infomercial, sales pitch etc? This episode felt like that. We are huge dvc people but when you only give extreme examples(rack rate), etc, as a comparison and when you spend 2 seconds on reasons not to buy dvc and 15 minutes talking about how those reasons aren't valid for you, it comes across as a sales pitch. Time value of money is a real thing, discounts are a thing. With that said, love the show, love you guys, info etc

I will say, being a DVC member since 2002, it has saved boat loads of money. We started staying on property beginning in 1991 and always stayed at Disney’s Yacht Club until 2002 (the last stay was courtesy of DVC.) The last trip we paid for at the Yacht Club was a seven day stay in a preferred view room. The trip with the hotel, park passes, airfare, and transportation (because Magical Express wasn’t around in 2000) was just over $6,000.
We didn’t go in 2001 as my wife was pregnant most of that year. In 2002, she went on a trip with one of her friends and stayed at a resort of property, her friend was at a convention and had a “plus one” invite. While there, my wife visited friends we had at the Yacht Club (we stayed every year from 1991-1995 and again in 1999 & 2000.) While at the resort there was a sign in the lobby about DVC. We had considered it, but weren’t sure if it would be worth it.
With a growing family, it only seemed rational and we bought a 150 point contract at Disney’s Beach Club Villas. We stayed there that September with a two night stay at the Yacht Club too. We spent a little over $3000 on the entire trip (airfare, MEARS shuttle, rental car for two days, food, two days at SeaWorld, souvenirs, and Annual Passes), which was less than our last stay at the Yacht Club (which was more like $8000 after food and souvenirs.) So, a savings of $4000 to this point (dues were about $1000 the first year.) Our contract was $22,400 (we financed, so total purchase price ended up being $31,325), so a little over 12% was absorbed in the first year. The next year we stayed at Boardwalk twice for a total of 17 days (one trip for 10 days and another for a week) and dues for the year went down to $895. The two stays at a comparable room in the Boardwalk would have been close to $11000. So we take $10000 off the next year or now recouped 45% of the purchase price in two years.
We borrowed some points from our 2005 use year to take another big trip in 2004…actually two. We purchased annual passes again ($1950 for three, our youngest was still free) and stayed at the Beach Club and Boardwalk that year. The stay at the Beach Club would have been around $6000 by itself as we had a one bedroom villa and the stay at the Boardwalk was around $4000 for the same accommodations. Dues that year were flat at $895. So after three use years, 65% of the purchase price is now paid.
In 2005 we went twice again, but didn’t buy annual passes (they were good until September 2005).
One stay at a two bedroom villa at OKW and our first stay at Saratoga Springs (it was for one night as we had just moved to Orlando.) The posted room rate for the two bedroom was $525 per night and we were there 10 days, so $5250 for the visit. One night at a two bedroom in Saratoga Springs was posted at $625 at the time. By the end of the forth use year, 95% of the purchase price was paid back.
We had to return to NY in 2006 as hurricanes dried up the job market. We were ahead by our next stay in 2008 (banked one year in between because we had borrowed so much.) So it took five trips to pay for itself.
It was a wise investment as we’ve stayed on property 20 times in the past 22 years. It will continue to be a good investment as future trips are still in the works and we have it until 2042.
So it was a wise investment for us and even though I’m moving back to Florida in the next few years, it will continue to be used.
I have to say, many times in the early years…we extended our stay by a day or two without issue. One time we needed to change resorts, but most of the time we didn’t even change rooms. This is now a thing of the past. Kind of like not planning out your stay. Our first 20 or so trips required no planning at all and we did more than we thought we could, even squeezing in other parks (SeaWorld and Universal) or other outside entertainment. Makes you wonder why? Why can’t you just go and have fun for fun’s sake. It’s all about the dollar now, big reason why visits in recent years have been limited. Still use the DVC resorts, but don’t visit the theme parks.

First off we waited waaaaaaay tooo looong to buy into DVC. Best vacation dollar I ever spent. Next, we take two Disney vacations a year one in Jan and one in July. You absolutely have to have one ready to go for the next vacation. We always book 11 months out at our home resort and then change it if we want to get into another location at the 7 month window. The best part of DVC is hunting your reservation!

So, 2 or 3 caveats before I start. From the UK so have totally different holiday lengths (vacations) to the US visitors. We’ve been DVC since 2001 (bought at $73 a point at $2 to £1 - how I wish I’d bought more). I’m also happy to do 2 weeks at DVC followed by a week offsite (at HGV for example) - in no way would I say I’m organised enough to plan ahead and yet normally manage between 1 and 3 pretty long holidays a year at DVC booking no more than 3 or 4 months ahead. Sometimes less than 6 weeks. You just have to be a little flexible which is maybe easier coming from the UK and having at least 5 and half weeks holidays every year but it is doable for us not being super organised. PS - love your channel, keep up the great work.

We bought our first contract in 2005 and a year later added on another 50 points, plus several more over the years! Our only regret is that we didn't buy SSR when we took the tour before it was even built because a year later the price had increased. BUT we were able to buy a 225 point resale contract at a big savings. We then bought the first direct contract through Disney to insure we had the perks, then purchased three more resale contracts. We have had many great trips over the years with our kids and grandkids and a great grandson. And Amy ,I still don't get tired of the hunt for what we want, but I do get frustrated if I don't get it! lol Great show as always!

Glad you do these shows every so often. I wish this was for me but sadly it not. I would give Panda a run for his money on big fan. But, I live as far away from Orlando as you can in Washington state. If lived within a 8hr drive or under would have been. (Disneyland is closer but feels busier as small )m2. I game the system like Amy when on the cruise I check stuff hourly to get events or excursions lolol. As a mega planner I plan vacations 12 months out. But , I want best bang for bucks . I am a Disney fan but if cheaper will skip Orlando and have skipped Disney world since 2017. So since 2017 have gone to 3 Disney parks and 2 cruises. Going to Orlando , the air fare I last went was the same price as me to Tokyo Disney and the park was. Cheaper so we went there for a week and a week in Tokyo. Next we got a ultr cheap flight to paris so we went there for 2 weeks one Euro Disney, and one with Paris lol.
    Opps sorry
Then for our two Disney cruises right now we went both of them for 14 days the wish the dream and we’ve done the wonder to Alaska . Sadly, Alaska was full price. You’re never gonna get a discount on that and that was a very first cruise. The other two were 30 to 40% off plus the 10% for pre-booking your next cruise while on a cruise.. so for us we loved it because all the character interactions we never had to wait more than 15 minutes to an hour if less because these are all smallish ships. We were like we wait 10 minutes. We always wait 10 minutes. lol
Final one we’re going to Hong Kong this fall and we’re kind of going in between seasons and so they have a deal and so the cost to stay at one medium to high ranking hotel in Orlando for one night we’re getting two nights at the Disneyland Hong Kong hotel, and includes everything Three day park tickets lunch in the park for three days at the hotel for three days and breakfast at the hotel for three days photo pass we’re getting some line skippers and some other rides and stuff so and all of us cost the price of staying one night it may be the Polynesian or some of the higher class ones> and again the airfare was similar to flying to Orlando for us as again i found a ultra sail. I do hope to go back to Orlando at one time and maybe we’ll be staying at a universal park or maybe the Swan & dolphin, was able to stay at the Swan dolphin in 2015 for two weeks and I believe it was $100 a night or 115+ tax I had to deal they were running a deal and they had a special deal for teachers, educators, museum workers and my wife works at Museum so there we got it for like 40% off. Or maybe again as I hear prices are very through the roof. I might be staying an international Boulevard. Lololol. Keep up the good work.

So jealous as discounted Disney gift cards are a East Coast thing specially, the southern East Coast around Florida lol , and not a West Coast thing once now I want to say two Christmases ago Best Buy had a virtual Disney gift card and you could buy it. I think it was $500 and you got 10% off and with my credit card that I use I got another 5% off so I got 15% off and you were able to get two per week and they did it for three weeks or four weeks. That was the first time ever as target’s not really a big deal because yeah give me a discount if you buy it with target but also I can get a discount if I buy it at another store and use a certain credit card..

I looked seriously into DVC but when I did my research it was very difficult to book a resort for the dates I wanted. I don't want to settle for a resort I don't like. I want an Epcot resort and they're so difficult to book for the dates I like to go. I like studios and they are hard to get. Plus you haven't mentioned the taxes and maintenance fees you have to pay yearly. So this is why DVC probably isn't for me.

Purchasing a DVC Timeshare on the secondary market is starting to make more sense. Now, that the stock market is crashing. We will have our house paid off in less than 4 years. I will at that time try to convince my wife to purchase that future Lake Tahoe DVC Resort. For those that live in Orlando, Florida. Purchasing a DVC timeshare does make mores sense for them. I will continue to use my WorldMark timeshare to stay close to Disneyland, California. I will also continue to trade in to DVC with my WorldMark timeshare.

It’s true. If you book a few trips and you’re spending around $30,000 for those trips, you just spend that once. Then pay the fee once a year and you get to go whenever you want.
But it’s not for everyone. I can book a trip 11-7 months out, not everyone can.
The examples you all gave were true, it’s gotta make sense for how often you go. You go to Disney once ever 10 years, yeah don’t get DVC, you got 2-4 times a year…. Maybe get DVC.
It’s gotta make sense for you.

Love your show.... I'm considering buying some points on resale. I have points now though Disney at the Beach Club. and have traded them through RCI to stay in Germany. Would you consider doing a show on trading out for international travel. Thank You .

You did not talk about pet owners who do not want to kennel their dogs but love dvc.

The biggest drawback of DVC is booking a stay at 11 months and seeing the Welcome back home countdown at 300+ days 😂

To Jeff's point, anyone with half a brain is not booking a week at Animation a week before they go for $2k. So that's not a good comparison. Unless it's a.last minute planner every time.

This is a downright silly topic! DVC is most definitely for everyone 😊
