Some interesting details, I'm sure this film is filled with lots of them: The reason she had blue hair is probably because earlier in the film you see a little superhero figure on her desk with blue hair so she imagined her self as a superhero. My Girlfriend said, in the end, there was one box left closed and when Danny is going to die its opened and it was his mother. Seeing as how Danny was scared of her before her death she might've haunted him and he had to lock her away. Only releasing her in his final moments and that's where we get that sweet scene with him and his mother. I also believe unfortunately the mother, in the beginning, died that night, and since the baby had no one to care for them so did it, that's why they haunted dan. This is the second most gut-wrenching moment in the film IMO.
In the novel, Dan feels major regret for letting the baby die because he uses the shining to look into the woman’s life. Apparently, she had and abusive boyfriend that would always beat her and the baby, so it’s automatically implied when Dan sees the body that it was indeed the boyfriend that did it. Sadly they didn’t put this into the movie, but I understand why because of time.
The figurine on the desk is a RWBY villain called Emerald. She has green hair but I think the reason Abra has blue hair is because of the green screen.
I agree about the "greatest hits" at the end. Seemed kinda hokey that the hotel reuses the same scares (twins in the hallway, the bloody bald guy, etc.) over and over. I was hoping for new scares with different ghosts. I think the movie could have added another battle between the hedge maze and the axe battle. Maybe another mind battle like the hedge maze one, except in Rose's mind. I'm not sure the idea of Rose battling the Overlook would have worked, as it's modus operandi seems to be psychological torture, and she didn't seem to be afraid of the hotel at all.

The office is IDENTICAL and for me that took me out of the scene tbh. Was that in Dan's imagination like thinking back to his father's interview at the Overlook or was this just creepy fan service?

I think the implication in King's novel The Shining, and the prologue that was cut from it that was reprinted later in a special King issue of Whispers Magazine, is that the original violence and/or sins committed on the original grounds of the later site of the Overlook Hotel, by various parties, builds and builds over many hundreds of years, and the hotel becomes later a conduit for all this massed evil and negative energy. So the "ghosts" as such are tied to the very site as well as the hotel as a vessel. If you go back and re-read King's prologue, it explains a good deal of this prehistory of the hotel and its evil.
These villains sound like the energy vampires from Dirk Gentlys Hollistic Detective Agency.. literally feed off peoples fear and they absorb this blue/grey essence from them.
Bruh Moment he releases like 10 movie reviews for every game review 🤷🏻♂️ if I want movie reviews I’ll go to stuckman or jahns. What got me hooked to joe was his thoughts on games. But since he basically said he isn’t going to review games I have no reason to stay subscribed. All good things come to an end
At the beginning of the Doctor Sleep book it explained that The Overlook burned to the ground when Danny was 5. Then how did "Dan" go back to the hotel as an adult? I had a major problem with that in the movie.
I had a problem with the rifle trap scene. they wanted to shoot them and whatnot but I couldnt understand why they didnt have 1 perso non 1 side and another on the other side so even if they hid behind a tree someone could shoot from the other side and they would have nowhere to go. couldnt understand that part.
Its a shame that the screen adaptation of books can be so disappointing. I recently read 'Mortal Engines', which is a very good book and a grand story, but the movie was a bit of a let down. But I do realise that some parts may be a bit to grand or expensive to translate to film. One book I would love to see adapted to film is Clive Barkers 'Scarlet Gospels', the final part of 'Hell Raiser'. It is so horrific and graphic, but I fear it may suffer the same fate.
I wish this movie had done better, it's not perfect but it's a really good adaptation. I actually like Stephen King's book ending better though which is a rarity for a King novel. I think they should have just done a straight adaptation.
I agree, the visuals were very inventive and impressive. Rebecca Ferguson is phenomenal in this film. One of the most beautiful ghouls ever in film history. She's almost as good as Alice Krige was in Ghost Story (1981), the adaptation of Straub's novel which was not very good, but made better by Krige's commanding presence. First saw her in the Mission Impossible films, etc.
Really loved about half of the runtime, the other half was *way* to distracting to enjoy. ** *SPOILER* ** Remember that scene when Dan was talking to his dad? That literally felt like Jack Black doing a parody of The Shining for SNL.
@AngryJoeShow after your review I looked at how long the movie is and I could not believe I was in the theater for two and a half hours. It flew by - so easy and intense to watch. I'd say yes, the last 15-20 minutes were a bit tiresome (will even pin-point it - it happened precisely after the ambush), but it has to do with what you guys said in the review - the shifting of the story was not executed as the rest of the movie and felt almost like a different movie. Dropped my score from 9 to 8 as well. I will still HIGHLY RECOMMEND - go and see this one, folks.
It would have been so awesome if the Ghost of Jack Torrence would have taken down Rose or the other ghosts to protect Danny. It would have given Jack a way to finally help his son. They could have even had Jack help Danny get out so he could stay behind and burn the hotel down. I loved that Danny kept Abra out of the fight to protect her finally let his own shine loose.
I like the transition in the background image. In the review it's the bright and welcoming Overlook hotel but in the spoiler section it has this worn out Overlook hotel like Joe is saying "Let's get down and dirty".
This is a masterpiece. How I missed it this long. Just watched it. I never thought a sequel for the Shining is ever possible. This is not just done right it's perfect
I agree about Rose the Hat and the Overlook. I wanted more time of the overlook vs her rather than the maze because I knew after the 2nd time Abra pops up behind Rose and cuts her leg she was gonna grab and I was just waiting for it to happen. The Overlook vs Rose scene wouldve been a cool idea
I like how this is itis own movie. You don't have to know the Shinning - but it helps.. This is what sequels should be. It can stand on its own. but it's better if you saw the first on. It's its own thing and I can appreciate that.
I for one loved loved this book. I hope the movie is good.. the ending of th e book was amazing loved it couldn't of done a better ending in the book for the shining story. Love Stephen King novel's
I haven't read the novel yet, but I see what was changed from it after reading the novel synopsis. Sounds to me like King was careful not to make Dr. Sleep a rehash of The Shining in any way, which I doubt King would ever have wanted to do in any way. It's refreshingly, it's own thing. I think it has some minor connection to King's The Night Flyer, (tale or novella) but only tangentially. The "vampires" in Dr. Sleep are not standard vampires, of course. They remind me more of a variation on the extraterrestrial ghouls from Colin Wilson's The Space Vampires, minus the outerspace angle. At least the film's ending isn't a pat, happy ending whatsoever, it was much more grim, but to me that new ending rings true. I heard this film wasn't that great, but that's nonsense, it's as good a sequel to a film as I've seen in a long time. I found it very well-made, well-acted, and quite gripping. I read a lot of complaints about the sequence of the murder of the baseball kid, that is really over the top and hard to deal with, granted. King pushes the envelope there big time, and the film does as well. I can see why a lot of people would be really put off by it. On the other hand, it doesn't pull punches, it lets you know you're in a real horror film and not some ersatz junk. But it is very disturbing. The ending at the Overlook did some a bit muddled or rushed to some degree. I would absolutely watch the film again, and I don't say that about many new films these days. It also sounded and looked superb. Any word on whether we'll ever see a film of The Talisman and Black House? That is long overdue. And also, a definitive film version of The Stand.
Oh shit 15:10 i didn't realize that lady in the beginning and her baby died, i was wondering what was up with the dead ghost lady and baby was about, damn now i dont feel so for Dani offing himself
I loved every element of this film and it is a fantastic horror film. Horror isnt just about jump scares. The end isn't fan service it follows the novel and brings Danny's story full circle. It's a necessary part of the story. You're very simple minded individuals. *i don't think it was rushed, they just didnt need to spend all that much time at the overlook, but i understand if you wanted more. 10/10
But is it scary? The trailers were just not scary enough for me, all the imagery and stuff shown looked like something from a PG13 young adult horror movie? Is the movie the same too?

These villains sound like the energy vampires from Dirk Gentlys Hollistic Detective Agency.. literally feed off peoples fear and they absorb this blue/grey essence from them.
Hes gonna review outer worlds by the time we are playing cyber punk
Joe has basically said he isn’t a gaming channel anymore. Guess he doesn’t care what the fans want as long as he gets to see free movies
If u disagree with me u are stupid ? U have to break up ur time somehow. He can’t straight play games forever that would be awful
Mop Head yeah he did in one of the other comment threads dumbass

As far as horror movies go. This is a 10/10
Wow. Just wow
I would say Creed and Blade Runner 2049 are great examples of sequels of classic films that stands on its own.
At the beginning of the Doctor Sleep book it explained that The Overlook burned to the ground when Danny was 5. Then how did "Dan" go back to the hotel as an adult? I had a major problem with that in the movie.
This movie deserves more attention at the box office! It one hell of a film, my girlfriend and I loved it!
Oh yeah, a Doctor Sleep review when I'm trying to get some sleep.
If you're wondering, it's 12:30am where I live. :)

Okay movie, hat lady was not scary and the kid was a mary sue, but still not bad.
Just came out of the movie theater and WOW this is probably my favorite Stephen King movie of all time!
"Doctor Sleep" is this year's "Blade Runner 2049".
How so? I'm not understanding the analogy. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm curious to how
Gamelover882 I guess because this is a sequel from an old movie and it doesn’t make a lot a money at the box office unfortunately
@@zackyDB There doing Stephen kings Salems Lot next for Warner Brothers
As in horrendous sequels to classics
I wish this movie had done better, it's not perfect but it's a really good adaptation. I actually like Stephen King's book ending better though which is a rarity for a King novel. I think they should have just done a straight adaptation.
Dr Sleep being connected to Kubrick film shoot down any change of it being a faithful adaptation.

Are you 4?
I agree, the visuals were very inventive and impressive. Rebecca Ferguson is phenomenal in this film. One of the most beautiful ghouls ever in film history. She's almost
as good as Alice Krige was in Ghost Story (1981), the adaptation of Straub's novel which was not very good, but made better by Krige's commanding presence. First saw her in the Mission Impossible films, etc.
I was quite entertained throughout this movie, it’s not my typical genre of choice but it wasn’t bad or cringy as I was expecting! 7.5/10
Was the Overlook the only place Dan could release his locked up demons? Or did it have to be there for them to have enough power to overcome Rose?
Rebecca Ferguson, from Mission Impossible, is Rose the Hat
Joe's face at 6:58 had me dead lol
loved this movie!!!! saw it twice. Man that one scene though, soo hard to watch but really showcases the evil of the grp
So this is a movie channel now? Sad to see less and less game reviews.
remember when he used to do game reviews...
u mean when there were actually games.
Did anyone else notice the Elm Street sign, when Danny and Billy were driving in the car? A subtle reference.
Did you notice Abra's address? It was 1980!
@@gocincinnatireds I did
Really loved about half of the runtime, the other half was *way* to distracting to enjoy.
** *SPOILER* **
Remember that scene when Dan was talking to his dad?
Joe the Scoob (Scooby Doo) movie trailer is out please react to it
It would have been so awesome if the Ghost of Jack Torrence would have taken down Rose or the other ghosts to protect Danny. It would have given Jack a way to finally help his son. They could have even had Jack help Danny get out so he could stay behind and burn the hotel down. I loved that Danny kept Abra out of the fight to protect her finally let his own shine loose.
This movie is amazing it’s a must watch
I like the transition in the background image. In the review it's the bright and welcoming Overlook hotel but in the spoiler section it has this worn out Overlook hotel like Joe is saying "Let's get down and dirty".
A lot of people critique Alex for being a critic whenever he critiques stuff.
This is a masterpiece. How I missed it this long. Just watched it. I never thought a sequel for the Shining is ever possible. This is not just done right it's perfect
This was one of the best movies this year❤️ So epic
I agree about Rose the Hat and the Overlook. I wanted more time of the overlook vs her rather than the maze because I knew after the 2nd time Abra pops up behind Rose and cuts her leg she was gonna grab and I was just waiting for it to happen. The Overlook vs Rose scene wouldve been a cool idea
Where are the game reviews Joe?
what headset are they using? mic quality sounds good!
Alex gave this movie an 8.....
Ok that's it where's the REAL Alex? This is clearly an impostor.

Yo Joe!!! The new sonic trailer came up and it's fucking hilarious! The redesign looks incredible. Check it when you got a chance.
If you're reading this comment
Just enjoy the video
I haven't read the novel yet, but I see what was changed from it after reading the novel synopsis. Sounds to me like King was careful not to make Dr. Sleep a rehash of
The Shining in any way, which I doubt King would ever have wanted to do in any way. It's refreshingly, it's own thing. I think it has some minor connection to
King's The Night Flyer, (tale or novella) but only tangentially. The "vampires" in Dr. Sleep are not standard vampires, of course. They remind me more of
a variation on the extraterrestrial ghouls from Colin Wilson's The Space Vampires, minus the outerspace angle.
At least the film's ending isn't a pat, happy ending whatsoever, it was much more
grim, but to me that new ending rings true. I heard this film wasn't that great, but that's nonsense, it's as good a sequel to a film as I've seen in a long time. I found it very well-made,
well-acted, and quite gripping. I read a lot of complaints about the sequence of the murder of the baseball kid, that is really over the top and hard to deal with, granted. King pushes
the envelope there big time, and the film does as well. I can see why a lot of people would be really put off by it. On the other hand, it doesn't pull punches, it lets you know
you're in a real horror film and not some ersatz junk. But it is very disturbing. The ending at the Overlook did some a bit muddled or rushed to some degree. I would absolutely watch
the film again, and I don't say that about many new films these days. It also sounded and looked superb. Any word on whether we'll ever see a film of The Talisman and Black House?
That is long overdue. And also, a definitive film version of The Stand.
I'm always happy to see my boy Ewan McGregor be part of a good movie
Instead of Star Wars prequels

Doctor Sleep is not a horror movie. There's a couple jump scares, but no... it's not scary. It's more of a psychological thriller.
