Fun fact: Dick is actually mentioned in the IT novel. His shining allowed him to save a few people in the Black Spot fire, and he briefly saw Pennywise without going crazy.
Niiiice
thats pretty cool
Jonathan Shaw; good point. Fun fact #2: Stephen King writes the majority of his books in a shared universe; he will drop characters, locations, concurrent (book) events or past (book) events from one book into another book like SK nerd easter eggs.
Robyn Daniell yes!! have you seen the richie & Beverley cameo in 11/22/63?
@@robyndaniell434 King has done that for decades too. Especially as the Dark Tower series points out that everything is connected and linked.

Amazing movie. Love the continuation. If the viewers enjoyed the shining they’ll enjoy this. You can actually tell people behind the camera cared. 9/10

Yeah... that's a BIG exaggeration. It's probably a 7 out of 10. It sort of bops around a bit to much and is slightly misguided in the middle.

It's shit.
Sloppy stupid movie. Lets reiterate a million times what happened on the shining.
Mike Flanagan y’all, he’s a name to be watched out for. He has directed, written and edited everything he’s worked on... including the entirety of Haunting of Hill House. He’s an amazing new talent in the horror genre.

It was actually really good, I went in not expecting much and was definitely delighted with what I saw; that's the best kinda movie tbh. I was like Joe when I got through 3/4 of the movie I realized and I'm just like "damn, this is a pretty good movie." Lol.
I'm glad y'all enjoyed this. I loved Rebecca Fergusen in this. Good lord she's fine ha.. But more importantly she's an amazing actress. Definitely was a supernatural, superhero movie w/ horror elements. I was surprised about how much heart it had too. I was invested in the storyline the whole time.
Angry Joe looks like a member of the axe gang from Kung Fu Hustle in the beginning shot 😂😂
Yes he does hahaha
Or from Cobra . Old reference i know
Ahh a man of culture
Let's be honest. It's good because it has Obi-wan in it. How could it not be good with the master of high ground?
Saw this a few days ago, gotta say Doctor Sleep is a wonderful sequel. It has some problems but for the most part, its a great continuation!
Yeah true. Really good movie. Without spoiling anything just wish villain had more of a motive though. Also admittedly it fell apart a bit towards the end. Just a little bit though.
@@jacklomas4218 yeah i know what you mean! Also some of the callbacks to The Shining didn't always work
@@leonthesleepy 100% agree. The movie was at it's best when it was dealing with it's own concepts. It felt weak at points where it was directly retreading on Shining territory.

I wanted ALOT more ghost/horror scares when they went in that house
@@jacklomas4218 Yeah I think the villians should have been portrayed as having a more prestigious or lavish lifestyle, like an illuminati-type deal. They honestly should have been so rich that they had their own underground vault of children to harvest by this point. It really didn't make any sense, who want's to live a thousand years as a scrubby gypsy just struggling to find enough steam to survive, I guess that is the life of a drug addict though so maybe it's accurate.
What I didnt get was if there was a shortage of shine, why recruit more people into the Knot? Wouldnt less people be better?
@InheritTheEarthx And taking the steam from adults is like rotten meat to them.

This may sound wierd, but I thoroughly enjoyed the driving around. You got to connect deeply with there characters. I prefer those moments over an extended 3rd act
I remember the true knot catching a disease from the boy they killed in the book and that was one of the main reasons why they needed abra...at least I think that’s what was in the book. I have to reread it.
The little boy/baseball player was the kid in The Predator
I agree about the "greatest hits" at the end. Seemed kinda hokey that the hotel reuses the same scares (twins in the hallway, the bloody bald guy, etc.) over and over. I was hoping for new scares with different ghosts. I think the movie could have added another battle between the hedge maze and the axe battle. Maybe another mind battle like the hedge maze one, except in Rose's mind. I'm not sure the idea of Rose battling the Overlook would have worked, as it's modus operandi seems to be psychological torture, and she didn't seem to be afraid of the hotel at all.
Alex's sentences are the bathroom door and Joe is the axe cutting into it..
That scene in the grocery store was epic as well.

@Priyush Das The film fixed the ending. Have you even read the book?
@Priyush Das Then you're either 12 or just not the sharpest tool in the shed. It has the ending of a 70's sitcom, not a horror novel, Kubrick fixed it.
Alex: I really liked it
Whats happened to Alex?
Joe is probably having problems paying him. Alex is a trained pro commentator and Joe has lost serious income for several reasons. Restricted ad revenue policy, constant copy claims, and declining views from poor channel management choices are biting deep. Then add in all the tension and frustration that pressure brings to creative personalities. Just a theory.

When you give the same rating as terminator dark fate but this sequel is actually good
Its getting to the point Joe does more film reviews a year than actually doing a full AngryJoe video game review
Most games he reviewed sucked plus most things he talked about video games are just bad stuff happening in the video games industry. he needs a break, thats why.
@@alonsoperez3637 plus its also just waaay easier to do these than do video game reviews. In video game reviews he has to play the video game for x amount of time. Come up with points and opinions about the games (what he likes/doesnt like) has to write up a script, do green screen skits as well. And then edit it all together. Im assuming this takes a hefty amount of time. As opposed to movie reviews where its more of a podcast type feel with minimal editing and more of a free flow style commentary. Its easier and faster to make

I watched this movie 3 times allready and ....
well i think that sums it up.
ps. i watched it by myself, that how good it was.
Good one dude
Anyone that goes to the movies alone I find endearing.
These villains sound like the energy vampires from Dirk Gentlys Hollistic Detective Agency.. literally feed off peoples fear and they absorb this blue/grey essence from them.
The only thing that bugged me was the guys talking about the hunting scene haha. Deer season is not in the summer...its in the winter. He said he shot a buck and tracked it...but bucks don't have their antlers in summer lol.
Some interesting details, I'm sure this film is filled with lots of them:
The reason she had blue hair is probably because earlier in the film you see a little superhero figure on her desk with blue hair so she imagined her self as a superhero.
My Girlfriend said, in the end, there was one box left closed and when Danny is going to die its opened and it was his mother. Seeing as how Danny was scared of her before her death she might've haunted him and he had to lock her away. Only releasing her in his final moments and that's where we get that sweet scene with him and his mother.
I also believe unfortunately the mother, in the beginning, died that night, and since the baby had no one to care for them so did it, that's why they haunted dan. This is the second most gut-wrenching moment in the film IMO.
In the novel, Dan feels major regret for letting the baby die because he uses the shining to look into the woman’s life. Apparently, she had and abusive boyfriend that would always beat her and the baby, so it’s automatically implied when Dan sees the body that it was indeed the boyfriend that did it.
Sadly they didn’t put this into the movie, but I understand why because of time.
The character on her desk with the bluish hair isn't a super hero. Lol
The figurine on the desk is a RWBY villain called Emerald. She has green hair but I think the reason Abra has blue hair is because of the green screen.
Great film, I had no qualms with it, its up there with "The Lighthouse" in my opinion. I really, really like these open-ended movies that makes you question things. And the nods to The Shining were a nice touch. Very good~
anybody notice when Danny talks to the head speaker for the AA meeting in his office it is shot exactly like the interview for Jack Torrence in The Shining? Even has a red book on top of a pile of other books in the same corner of the table. It's also not a spoiler guys they literally show it in the trailers they go back to the Overlook. Not a secret.
The office is IDENTICAL and for me that took me out of the scene tbh. Was that in Dan's imagination like thinking back to his father's interview at the Overlook or was this just creepy fan service?
@@CatLives9 could be both . At this point Dany is an achoholic and basically becoming what his father was that started him down that path. So it could have been internal fear manifesting in the room but on the other hand Dany was not present for that part so he would not really know what that room looked like. I think it was just soley an easter egg for people to notice.
I loved this movie. Especially in IMAX. Definitely watching it again.
I got to see an advanced screening of this a week and some change ago. This is the most fun I've had at the movies in a long time.
Doctor SLEEP is Simply AMAZING....

Making a sequel to a Kubrick movie is like making a sequel to a Scorsese movie.
So?
Not really. The book version of The Shining was better and Stephen King hated the movie. King says this movie redeems The Shining. That says a LOT.
Light Treason King was never that good of a writer. The films that divert from his source are better because of that.
@@spbynum I actually hated the book. I like the Kubrick film a lot, but the book sucks.
@@JustinBA007 Guess it goes down to opinions and preferences
So this is a movie channel now? Sad to see less and less game reviews.
It would have been so awesome if the Ghost of Jack Torrence would have taken down Rose or the other ghosts to protect Danny. It would have given Jack a way to finally help his son. They could have even had Jack help Danny get out so he could stay behind and burn the hotel down. I loved that Danny kept Abra out of the fight to protect her finally let his own shine loose.
Just came out of the movie theater and WOW this is probably my favorite Stephen King movie of all time!

I think the implication in King's novel The Shining, and the prologue that was cut from it that was reprinted later in a special King issue of Whispers Magazine, is that
the original violence and/or sins committed on the original grounds of the later site of the Overlook Hotel, by various parties, builds and builds over many hundreds of years, and the hotel becomes
later a conduit for all this massed evil and negative energy. So the "ghosts" as such are tied to the very site as well as the hotel as a vessel. If you go back and re-read King's
prologue, it explains a good deal of this prehistory of the hotel and its evil.
I thought the ending was a sort of appeasement to King while still retaining Kubrick’s version.
King pretty much abhorred Kubrik’s movie, hence why he made his own. Jack was supposed to regain himself and sacrifice himself in the last minute by blowing up the hotel to save his family. Thus, in the novel, the hotel doesn’t exist and Danny actually lives.
I think they wanted to show appreciation to King and Kubrik by making Danny go through those same beats and get rid of the hotel AND have you feel like it was a sacrifice. Quite ingenious I think how they managed to respect both parties.
I for one loved loved this book. I hope the movie is good.. the ending of th e book was amazing loved it couldn't of done a better ending in the book for the shining story. Love Stephen King novel's
Rebecca Ferguson, from Mission Impossible, is Rose the Hat
This is a masterpiece. How I missed it this long. Just watched it. I never thought a sequel for the Shining is ever possible. This is not just done right it's perfect
There may be more movies because Rose says she is not the only one, I found very interesting that Abra kind of enjoys killing bad guys, and when Rose said the only difference between her and Abra Is that Rose is thousands of years old. I would be great if they develop on this in a new movie.

The shining makes this movie look like a joke
I know..all the praise for this complete dog turd ..it was so bad it was offensive.. leeching of Kubrick's masterpiece.
I thought exactly the same as Alex about what I was expecting at the end in the spoilers in relation to the hotel.
I like how this is itis own movie. You don't have to know the Shinning - but it helps.. This is what sequels should be. It can stand on its own. but it's better if you saw the first on. It's its own thing and I can appreciate that.
This movie is amazing it’s a must watch
I would say Creed and Blade Runner 2049 are great examples of sequels of classic films that stands on its own.
Hey guys love the cud’s just a simple question if y’all are doing a death stranding review?
I am not a fan of Kubrick's Shining. The botched ending ruined the enjoyment of it for me. However, for me Doctor Sleep retroactively fixed The Shining, and I can now feel more comfortable going back to watch it again. Dr. Sleep was excellent.
A lot of people critique Alex for being a critic whenever he critiques stuff.
"Doctor Sleep" is this year's "Blade Runner 2049".
How so? I'm not understanding the analogy. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm curious to how
Gamelover882 I guess because this is a sequel from an old movie and it doesn’t make a lot a money at the box office unfortunately

@AngryJoeShow after your review I looked at how long the movie is and I could not believe I was in the theater for two and a half hours. It flew by - so easy and intense to watch. I'd say yes, the last 15-20 minutes were a bit tiresome (will even pin-point it - it happened precisely after the ambush), but it has to do with what you guys said in the review - the shifting of the story was not executed as the rest of the movie and felt almost like a different movie. Dropped my score from 9 to 8 as well. I will still HIGHLY RECOMMEND - go and see this one, folks.
Its a shame that the screen adaptation of books can be so disappointing. I recently read 'Mortal Engines', which is a very good book and a grand story, but the movie was a bit of a let down. But I do realise that some parts may be a bit to grand or expensive to translate to film.
One book I would love to see adapted to film is Clive Barkers 'Scarlet Gospels', the final part of 'Hell Raiser'. It is so horrific and graphic, but I fear it may suffer the same fate.
This was one of the best movies this year❤️ So epic
The hat is scarier on dat 4 Non Blonds “What’s Up” video.
