The Spiderman 2 PS5 is a Disappointment - Teardown - I bought the Special Edition Spiderman 2 PS5 for $600 because I want to see what it looks like on the inside. Is there something besides the great plate design that makes this Special Edition really special? We're going to find out.

Have you tried using thermal Grizzly Carbonaut instead of Liquid Metal to see how the PS5 works?
Buddy I think you're awesome and you taught me some things that I use in life with these consoles teardowns and other Tear down.. It is because of you I got the iFixit kit that has all the bits prys tweezers suction cup ect and made my life easier. Along with getting there upgraded PS5 controller batteries..
But I am trying to figure out where is the disappointment and what were you expecting the Spider-Man 2 PS5 to be?
Not supposed to be a PS5 Pro. It's a 1200 model PS5 with Spider-Man themed plates in controller. The real disappointment is that these bundles come with no actual game. Which is why I don't buy them. Instead my 1200 model PS5 is dbrand decked out and waiting on arachnid plates. With Spider-Man 2 controller with Scarlet Red faceplate and black kontrolfreek thumbstick pads.

I’ve never thought about a “special edition” console as being different on the inside. It’s just a way to get a fancy color or design. It was great for me because I didn’t have a PS5 and those plates sold out super fast.
Xbox does cool things on the inside. Like they did for Xbox one s minecraft special edition (imo the best se console of all time)
@@Luckysury333 really doesnt matter to the consumer at all, also because the PS5 only uses plates to customize the console theres no need for them to open up the PS5 or make new spiderman themed parts when they can just whack on some plates on and call it a day
Yeah but xbox does that because they target the teenagers and preteens. Xbox has always done cheesy special editions.
@tinystar3010 I mean, every console is geared towards kids. Spiderman, mine craft, fortnite, halo etc. Xbox is just better with build quality, power, reliability , and low maintenance. I own both and can say for sure I've needed 3 ps5 controllers in 2 years and needed to redo thermal on ps5 bc overheating. I haven't had any issues with series x yet
just get them fake they are half the price and look the same. This is on Sony's for doing such a small limited run.

@@sevengedafterlife9670 All dual shocks had the light all they did with the new DS4 was had thinner plastic above it so it showed through above it. That was nothing to do with "limited edition" that was to do with being an updated controller everyone could buy. Same when you talk about early Dual sense vs second gen. They annnounce the changes. There were no changes announced for Spidey limited edition just the cosmetics.

thats literally the whole point of a special edition lmao... sony is just to dumb to understand that. selling the controllers is fine but selling the console as a special edition and then also selling the side covers doesn't make it special at all.

Not anymore unless you’re paying a scalper. They did 1 actual limited run for the plates, now they’re just selling the special controller stand-alone and a white console with game bundle. It’s hilarious.

Why would you expect it to be different? Manufacturers love crap like this because they charge a premium for the same product with little overheads others than some design and print work. These changes will NOT be exclusive to this limited edition.
I guess he means that Xbox special edition consoles have some Easter eggs inside, unlike any PlayStation.
The entirety of all the PS4 SE's had some sort of hardware benefit to them that was different from a normal varient. That's why.
I hope no one was expecting it to be different internally. There is absolutely no reason why it would be. That would be like buying a new car with the enhanced trim package and expecting a different engine.

Yeah this is my PS5 and i never expected anything different other than looking cool with a spider-man theme.
l am actually surprised the controller has a different motherboard.
This is just a dbrand skin and for the price and the name it doesnt live up to scratch, look at the 360 custom consoles, the different leds, the audio as well when you turn it and generally just really impressive. If you are happy with this standard, so be it.
@@Mr-fe5ngYou can buy the controller and the cover on their own. Also it isn't that expensive compared to the regular version. Imagine bashing all Joycon colors/designs cuz they're not different on the inside lol.

It's Limited Edition anyway, which even less implies anything changed inside. That, plus the Sony store page advertises nothing beyond the spiderman themed controller and plates.
You're better of buying custom panels for the console and controller because that's all these special editions really amount to.
They're all sold out.
@@Nost2682 I done some googling and there's still a number of big chains vending it, but ya, it seems they've been cleared out in some of the big stores.
When it comes to these 'special' edition PS consoles the only reason I would think of ever getting one is... RESELL. Keep it sealed. Sell it on down the line. But even that's speculative/risky investment wise as I've seen a lot of special PS4 editions being hawked for cheap in the second hard markets.
Outwith reselling, just change the panels on your normal PS5.

Xbox special editions usually have a number of differences other than just slapping a wrap on them
but they sold the plate coverings separate lol doesn't really make it special. like sony is to cheap to even give the people who bought this console bundle the deluxe edition of the game smh. still hyped for the game but sony sucks.
I guess you have shown some special editions that do have more hardware changes (I'm thinking of the Halo Infinite Xbox Series X you repaired which had a speaker on for custom sounds, a different colour insert, a unique fan and so on), though I don't know how exactly they could make this Spiderman version different. Maybe every console could ship with a live spider living inside it. :)
Yeah Xbox does go out of their way to make their special editions a bit more special. R2D2 Xbox 360 comes to mind that made R2D2 noises when powering it on.

We shouldn't be too surprised that they're constructed the same. The "special" in the special edition is the plates, controller and game code put together for cheaper than buying it all separately.
There are three different versions of the controller boards and yeah the spider-man is the 3rd, I’ve modded my spider controller to have back buttons and needed to be sure cause the ribbon cables are different between v1/2 and v3

I think the true benefit of this console bundle is getting the system with the plates, controller and game for a much better price than buying all four items separately.

"This model is pretty chunky" It most definitely is. I've never been a fan of the PS5's clunky, odd shaped design. I'm waiting for the Slim version to finally get it down to a manageable size. I'd also like to see the slim model be more like a box than the current funky round shape.
PS5 and the Slim models coming out, are so much nicer than the X-box-whatever. Modular, expandable and... cool looking.

That controller design is actually sick. First time I see a non basic Sony PS 4/5 controller that I think looks awesome. Usually Xbox controllers have way better design and look better. Sony usually just slaps the game's logo and calls it a "limited edition controller" or "special edition". This one actually looks like a special edition for once.
Getting my hands on that controller made me realize that it's one of the nicest controllers out there👌
6:48 I’m surprised that you didn’t notice that they cut out a L shape on the power supply side. And there’s also another cut in the center. My assumption is for better airflow. You can see right through it when you remove the plate.

@@sunlessheaven It is a new changes made for 2nd revision PS5 (3rd gen, CFI-1200)
The L1/L2 and R1/R2 assemblies are different than the white controller, also the buttons film or whatever is called is also different
So the one PSU you showed (ADF-400) is probably DELTA
the new one PA-1401-JT3 is a Liteon...
Too bad you didn't open the PSU and show the inside of the Lite-On one.
the faceplates are not available anymore from the sony website. they were sold out 10 min before they were supposed to go live. insomniac said they probably were NOT going to restock. hopefully they change their minds and restock for fans.
I guarantee the board in the 1200 model is the same board in the slim model with 4 plates
it was the best $600 i spent. and i 100% completed my new favorite game of all time. gonna play Spider-Man 2 a few more times for fun

Unfortunately the plates are all sold out on Sony's website and I don't think they will be re stocking them, I believe they were a limited time only deal on them, and once they sold out, that's it
I think the bigger issue is the lack of a physical disc for the game. With the detachable face plates, most of us didn't really expect anything special with this version.
Agreed 👍 really would have liked to see a physical copy of the game. But that's maybe because i'm old school 😁
Spiderman transition was a nice touch
I hope this video doesn't discourage anyone from buying one of these (or the plates) if they're considering it. This is one of the coolest looking special editions I've ever owned, and I own over 90 consoles. It looks even better in person, almost to the point of distraction as it now dominates my modern gaming setup with its striking design. I took some flat black spray paint (for plastics) and blacked out my official Playstation controller charger to complete the look.
Is it worth it for someone who's on a budget to get this edition or save and just get the base model?
There's alot of people waiting for them to make modern better Analog sticks.

Is the fan a different model? I had a spider man edition the fan was pretty loud I returned it got a second one and the fan was just as loud. I put it next to my original PS5 1215 and that fan is so quiet you can’t here it even if you put your ear by it. I’m convinced the fan is 100% different.
Like most things, you're paying for the licensing for the "whatever the 'special/super duper limited product placement' of the day is."
Do you have an idea if/when disc drive repair prices for the launch models will decrease after the slim launches? Or if I could get decent trade-in value for a launch model with broken disc drive; everything else works fine.

The box and the game code paper makes it special.
People are still selling the game code for the Fortnite switch for almost the price of a new switch. We collectors are a bit mental like that.
My ratchet and clank special edition PS5 has never been out of the box, and is well out of warranty having never been used
Why would you collect game codes? They have expiration dates and are one-time use only. I get collecting physical games, I collect them myself, but I don't get collecting digital stuff, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I know you’re a professional at it but why do you use pliers to pull up connectors I know you probably haven’t done it but everyone else usually breaks stuff off the board when they do it. That way I’ve worked on consuls and controls for 10 years plus and I’ve always pulled the connectors off by the wire.
Thats not a disappointment its a good thing more people can enjoy the special edition stuff.Also its a good thing the parts are the same as stock so its easier to swap parts out in repairs
Have to hard disagree with this being a disappointment. I think it's awesome that anyone can turn their PS5 into a limited edition style console without having to buy an entirely new console. I find this rather pro-consumer. Yes, it hurts the rarity and people can inflate the aftermarket pricing down the line but I still prefer this strategy of making consoles limited edition.
It could at least make a special noise when you turn it on...I think it's disapointing all they did was put a new code of paint yawn.... look at the Funtastic N64's those are actually special, all the 360 edition's that came out? Yeah that's special this isn't special it just looks cool and that's it.
I came back cause I will give you the "I agree that it's pro that we can change the plates" that right there is a big plus but still I have my other feelings.

@andrewglidewell2699 just grasping, like the special turn on sound has been done for 2 consoles (as far as i am aware), and that was a special requirement from taco Bell for prize not a special edition that was available for sale, and the series x they done doesn't even look different 😂
I don‘t even think about something being different in this version. For me it was clear from day one i just have to buy the sideplates (and the package) to have a „special edition“ too.
But the controller would be enough for me. The plates don‘t look that good in my opinion.
On the other hand Sony could have doing a „shock“ and bring the slim version as a real special.
When i think about the price tag for this console it would have only been fair.
Most PS5 with a game are under 500 (€, at least in germany) now, and then there is the Spiderman variant, with nothing more than a different skin for way over 600 (660€ in a store i looked for).
I can go in a store, buy a new „normal“ PS5, buy the sideplates, buy the controller and buy the retail version of that game, and wouldn‘t pay anything more. But then with a physical game disc, two controllers and a second pair of sideplates.
Thank you for the video. I have not yet been able to acquire a PS5, I have 1-4 and was just not lucky in the first 2 years of the 5's release to get one for retail pricing. By now I figured I would wait for a special edition or the Slim. Now I know to wait for the slim. Much appreciated!

i think i was a great deal.. you get a the limited edition console and limited edition controller.. now imagineif you had to buy the plates the white console and the limited editon controller and the game seperate it would have cost more individually..it would have cost more....
I prefer this, I hate when ppl charge $1k for a "special edition" and all it is just some design on the console's sides and maybe a different bootchime. At least you can get these plates and pimp out your PS5 without spending a fortune.
I pre ordered mine and not even a week later it stopped working and wasn't powering on all the way you can hear the beep and then it never turns on all the way I and I had to send it back hopefully I get it back before the game comes out

The conductive film for the spiderman 2 controller is also different. I looked into replacing it on mine but i couldn't find any results for how to remove the film specifically. Still looking
If you use isopropyl alcohol while removing the “warranty” sticker, it will not come up void, or so I heard. 🤷♂️
I have acer aspire 7 laptop , when i try to use while charging it gets off, but after charging then using, it works. Can you tell what would be the problem. On full charge battery drains in 4hr on normal use.
I'm still pissed they didn't do this for FFXVI. I had to buy the PS5 with FF graphics on the box, then import FF covers and controllers separately to get a facsimile of a limited edition console for FFXVI. Of course I ended up buying the game twice too since the console came with a download and I wanted a physical copy of Final Fantasy. So, I wouldn't call this Spiderman 2 limited edition a disappointment other than it doesn't come with the physical game, rather a download.
I have the God of War Edition, so it would have been cool if at least the God of War controller had been included.
It will be cool when you finally get a PS5 Slim and break one down to see what all they did when they shrunk it!
Thwy will probably use ps4 components 😂 and maybe tone down on the Chip or capacitors along with the fan size. The ps2 slim vs ps2 was pretty much same thing, ps3 versions also had same hardware between all versions but improved it. The difference in the ps4 versions released weren't that much different either.

At least for the price they could have it be a 1tb console. I made a spider-man 2 skin for my controller and console did a different design. Peter parker and miles morales on one side and venom on the other. Did it on my computer.
Im sure this isnt the place to ask, but would you be interested in looking at fixing a slightly different kind of electronics device? I have a remote starter that worked but I think the button wore out...might be worth a video?

Crazy how Sony and Microsoft almost punish you for buying the system at launch. 💩 Games to play. No special edition. Just bragging rights. Then your non gamer buddy picks up a special edition or a slim when he finally decides to get something new. There should be a reward for being the first to drop your hard earned money on them👎🏼👎🏼
Can I get some advice? I have an Alienware M17 laptop that was recently reset to factory default...Since then it no longer recognizes the fact that it has a USB port and only offers a NIC card as a reboot option...Does anyone have any thoughts on what happened??? I don't want to take it in, but I don't know how to create a bootable site to link to and it doesn't seem like there are any other options...
Update...I was contacted by a friend who suggested that I plug in my bootable USB drive then reboot-F12. I did that and in the boot options the USB drive showed up...I'm back in business...

i have a good PC and all the consoles... i just bought this console bundle cause it looked cool and i sold my ps5 a long time ago (the games suck other then spiderman and GoW) but the fact sony doesn't even give us the deluxe edition of the game is ridiculous smh, F sony fr lol. had to buy the deluxe edition and since sony is trash ima try and help someone out and just give them the code or at least sell it for 40-50$.

The biggest problem with the controllers is the joystick drift on them and their is no fix for them at all

I think it is a special edition. It is true that you can change the appearance of a regular ps5 SE however, Sony has not meant any deception on this, the special edition is just its color scheme as well as with the controller, and you get a copy of the game, I bought one and I knew I wasn't getting a new upgraded console, but you get a great looking ps5 out of the box. It is 100 Dlls more expensive than the regular console, but if you consider that it comes with the game, you are only paying 40 additional dlls for something not so boring to look at.
Ps blog press release on October 10th shows the new model ps5 which is 30% less in volume.

I personally think that it should either come with the collectors edition as well or the controller should've been a dualsense edge with the cool spidey design. I dunno if anyone agrees with that though.
