      @GrillSergeant  2 года назад

      Are you cooking more for just the family? I would go with the horizontal. You will save so much time. But if you are into big bbq cooks or have a catering business, vertical is the way to go.

      I have not. One thing to consider with bigger smokers is unless you are catering all that extra room is going to take that much longer to heat up and burn more fuel to maintain that temp.

  • @WayneDowning3382

      you also get a hot spot on the PB horizontal due to where the vents are. So you end up needing to move meat a bit to balance out the cook. not a deal breaker, just knowledge.

    Great point you made, I live in Arizona and we also have little to no humidity and I always leave my pellets in the hopper. I have a Pit Boss Classic which I have had for 2 and a half years and I absolutely love it. With that said, there have been times where I have a large cook going but, I also want to make beef jerky but I can't because my grill is smoking a pork butt or whatever. So that's why I am here. I want a new Pit Boss and have looked at the vertical Brunswick. Hopefully, I will get it for Father's Day, we shall see. New subscriber BTW.

      @@GrillSergeant I really like it so far. My CharGriller w/side fire box and some other mods, after 26 years, finally rusted through. So the wife allowed me to get a new one.
      I’ve cooked ribs, butt, tri tip, turkey and lastly a brisket. I’ve got a few different pellets, cherry, oak, hickory and Royal Oak charcoal.
      I’m finding the ease of not having to keep the fire stoked a huge plus. I did get a smoke tube for added smoke.

    For those of us with several you kids/babies anything more complicated than charcoal grilling is not an option. Pellet smokers have been my gateway to good bbq with minimal extra effort. Even firing up the kettle or WSM for smoking having taken a back seat. It’s still too easy for me to forget to check the fire. I’d rather just worry about the meat. And if I have a bit more time than using something like the smoke cage on my Maverick 1250 allows me to get more WSM/kettle style wood smoke if I need/want it.

    If you make your own sausage and do cured smoked sausage then the 150 low temps will be infinitely better for smoking sausage. It is almost too high as you will be cooking too soon but it is doable! To get the most smoke flavor on your links, you will have to use a smoke tube for an hour or so, and then fire it up to start at 150. The other at 180 is too hot and will render out the fat too fast giving you a dry crumbly sausage long before you get any smoke flavor, however with a smoke tube you could manage, but I would rather have the lower temp unit.

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  Год назад

      I got a new smoker from SmokinTex and it does 100-250. What would be the best temp for sausage?

    • @mikesmicroshop4385
      @mikesmicroshop4385 Год назад +1

      @@GrillSergeant definitely I will have to see if I can find that! I build a smokehouse but it kinda sucks to run it for small batches or small cooks. So I have been kinda looking for a smaller smoker that had a better temp range for doing sausage. Thanks

    • @GrillSergeant
      @GrillSergeant  Год назад

      @@mikesmicroshop4385 Definitely give a look into SmokinTex smokers. They also double as a food warmer and they are definitely cheaper to run then a pellet smoker.

    Thank you for the videos. You are very helpful and entertaining.
    I have been using the Chargriller Akorn for several years now and love it but I would like to have something with more capacity for smoking.
    I was attracted to the Pit Boss Pro Series 4 because my daughter's business uses 3 of them 12 hrs a day 5 days a week with no problem.
    The vertical is the best bet for my needs I believe since I will continue to use my Akorn for grilling and I like the constant temperature throughout the verticle smoker as well.

The 1600 is an awesome pit after getting the new controller it works like a champ! • @BehindTheFoodTV

    Great comparison - and I think I agree with your conclusions. I've found when using my verticals I really don't get as much usable space because you can't use the whole shelf - but there's so much room in there that I'm not really constrained anyway. But like you, 90% horizontal and 10% vertical is what I find myself doing when I'm cooking for family and friends. Oh - and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention your production quality. Thanks for setting such a high bar for the rest of us! -Al
