It's just a privilege if you come across Thai people who can converse with you in English when you are holidaying in Thailand.
I think tourists and foreigners forget that they are supposed to attempt Thai, and not use English, when they are there.
I'm a Singaporean by the way. I remember carrying around a Thai translation book when I backpacked there a decade ago. There's no Google translation during my time. But it's so much easier with Google translation on your handphone nowadays.
For those who post nonsensical comment about why Thai people can't speak English well. This is food for thought. I never come across comments by American or British who question why the whites in US and UK can't speak Chinese/ Japanese/ Korean/ Thai. So why are we expecting Thai people to be proficient in English when their native language is Thai? It doesn't make sense for you to use a standard to judge others and not apply that same standard on yourself.

It at least shows I care & everyone seems really happy when I try.
In England at least, there's absolutely no drive to learn any other language in school

Many Thais who worked overseas as a lobour they cannot find a good job here in Thailand because has not good education and they have to go overseas to do those hard work jobs because they could earn good money there. So most Thai labour who worked overseas couldn't compare to these people who had good education in Bangkok atleast I bet most of people here are students in the university and more than 95% here must be completed Bachelor's degree otherwise you couldn't find a job here easy, but Thai labour overseas most of them are from rural areas in country side provinces of Thailand and they have no degree my friend. These kids here they have money and when they go abroad they go as a tourist like when you guys come to Thailand they do not go to work as a lobor there.

There could be many reasons for those Thais abroad not being able to speak English. Ironically, probably the same reason to European/Aussie immigrants in Thailand who can't speak any Thai, whilst some of their compatriots living in their home country could speak Thai very well.
Mainly, due to their educational backgrounds and their attempt to learn and speak it. Also depending whether they live in their Thai bubble abroad, same as Farang immigrants sticking to each other in Thailand.

+1 to the game format! It's very entertaining.
    Some other variations might be:
    * You have five objects with you. Can they name them in English?
    * You point to five things nearby (bridge, window, etc). Same deal.
    * You name five things in English, all visible from where you're standing. I want to suggest "manhole cover" here because of the potential hilarious misunderstandings, but I reckon that's just too difficult anyway :P
    * Can they identify English accents from a recording? (again, maybe too difficult, IDK)
    * Translating quirky English expressions ("hold your horses", "quit cold turkey", etc). I feel like making those into multiple choice questions would be more reasonable than point blank translation.
    Just some random thoughts.
Either way, keep up the great work.

I always say the Thai people love to hear foreigners speak Thai, the Thais just like the Brits, they sometimes recognize different accents from different parts of their own countries, the Thais worry too much about making mistakes, even Americans make "trivial" errors, (I do it too), e.g., "easier" is a better choice than "more easy", definitely not both. It ain't instead of it isn't, what do you got instead of what have you got or gotten.

Hi Paddy! Are you back in Australia? Originally, you were only staying for one month. Have you decided to stay longer?

if might look easy when you have original sentence on the screen, but in real life you need to memorize the information as well.

I really really feel for the guy who got 4/5 right. The last one he almost got it all right. Ohhhhhh I was rooting for him. It was juuuuust that 6 bottles of beer. Should have given him Baht 350 you know.
