How to Die Young as Late as Possible with Dr. Michael Roizen

  • Aging without feeling old-isn’t that what we all want? By embracing the right lifestyle practices, it’s possible to get a new lease on life.
Emerging research is showing optimal health and graceful aging have just as much to do with when you eat as what you eat. We’ve been hearing a lot in the last couple years about intermittent fasting and time restricted eating, which many folks practice by avoiding meals earlier in the day and breaking their fast with a late lunch or large dinner.
My guest on today’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, Dr. Michael Roizen, is here to share why science says late eating is not in our favor and how we can flip the script to make time restricted eating support optimal health. Dr. Roizen is the first Chief of Wellness at the Cleveland Clinic, is board certified in internal medicine, an anti-aging expert, and is the author of many New York Times best sellers. His most recent book, What to Eat When, takes an in-depth look at how planning your meal times more mindfully can dramatically improve your health.

Very exciting ideas discussed here. Obesity and diabetes run in my family. With my effort at normalizing my blood sugar high and lows I have thought I needed to eat frequent small meals. This did not help me! The waiting till late morning to eat and being done with eating anything by 7:00 pm I have noticed clothes getting big on me, and oddly enough, blood sugars stabilizing! Thank you for your ground breaking studies, your commitment to sharing the wealth of health. My family would benefit greatly (if only they were looking for the right answers!!) Ann

I am glad that Allopathy or present day science is coming around to learn the same teachings taught by The Ayurvedic medicine ( Ancient medicine of India) thousand of years ago , to be in harmony with nature, our little body is in tune with Cosmic body. Eating around Noon is best for the digestion because as the Sun is high so is the digestive power which is called the Jatharagni in Sanskrit & to have light meal at Sunset. Intermittent fasting is very much practised in present day Hindus may be more of our parents generation ,may be in the form of religious days which of course the newer generation does not practice due to their lack of its importance. Its like Yoga had to be Certified by the West & come back to the East & then it became important for the Indians. Its like you dont value the knowledge you have until an outsider points it out.

      February, 4, 2019,
yeah. except it turns out the idea of "breakfast being the most important meal of the day" originates from Seventh Day Adventist Church ideology and industrial food convenience. It's not based in real science. Circadian rhythm science is simply building on bad ideas not validated by science.
Yes, fasting means extending time between meals. OMAD is the ultimate time restricted, calorie restricted, healthy way to eat. It doesn't fit with the modern, industrial concept of food intake.

I feel very frustrated because I'm an older female physician and an RN who was disgusted at the way men treated women in medicine so I decided to become a physician to do things differently. The problem is I didn't have a wife and I was a single mother. Adel Davis is never quoted because she's female. Pritikin was totally discounted because his diet was too hard. I also studied with Jeff Bland, Leo Galland, Jonathan Wright, Alan Gaby but as a single female physician I'm not even allowed to borrow money! We must be teaching our daughters to fight the sex discrimination that's still rampant in our culture. As a female physician when I became sick none of the male physicians would even listen to me but thank goodness I knew enough to save myself. I love these guys and the work they're doing but I wonder why they only talk about the grandfather of medicine and never the grandmothers! Think about it we must all change this before goes on another generation.

Just because someone says something it doesn't mean that it is true. Look at the scientific studies. Look at your family members. For example my mother-in-law lived to 90 and I believe she would have lived longer if she hadn't lost her only grandson. She grew up poor and ate lots of beans, greens, corn , tomatoes , cornbread and biscuits (made from white flour) and very little meat. Her mother lived to 99 on that diet most of her life. They outlived their husbands by 40 years. Back then it was thought that men needed lots of protein so they ate a lot of meat.
He mentioned Valter Long, I highly recommend his book(the audio book is great if you like to learn while you exercise). Longo is an actual scientist, specializing in longevity. I think lots of beans, veggies, fruit in season and your daily bread, whole grain perferably is a great way to eat. It works for me anyhow and it apparently is working for Dr. Roizen.

Not until the light bulb was developed and TV did our style of eating changed. Now we stay up later and eat snacks watching TV or sport events or late night movies and live shows. We should eat like a King in the morning, like a Queen at lunch and a Pauper at dinner. In this way your digestive system can rest and your body can regenerate itself as well as keeping insulin n check.
