Other people have already, and will say it. But Minami is an amazing singer. Her songs are so heartfelt. Hollowness is my personal favorite.
If you loved the song, Minami made another similar song called "Hollowness" with very deep lyrics as well. It's not in any anime, it's a song from the same EP as this one.
The anime did use this song as an opening, but it wasn't specifically made for it. The anime itself is very much a dumpster fire, but not necessarily in a bad way. It is similar to a soap opera with the most spicy and convoluted relationships possible. If you enjoy such shows, then it's definitely entertaining but otherwise I'd say just enjoy the song xD
Also, the video you reacted to isn't affiliated with the anime, so the girl in the red raincoat was made specifically for this music video. Anime openings either ask artists if they want to make a song specifically for the anime or if they have one that fits the tone or if they could use a specific one they already have in mind. NANO, who has done anime openings and is fluent in English has her own youtube channel where she explained the process and it's very complicated.
In Minami's case however, the song wasn't made with the anime in mind, but probably happened to fit it. The reason being that she has created a "rain saga" with her songs, starting with "crying for rain", "waiting for rain", "drop" and finally "the sky in this town will never clear". They are lyrically all "sequels" to this song :D
The manga also was a dumpster fire - but as you implied that's not necessarily a bad thing as it was written TO BE a dumpster fire. And it was actually a very well-written manga, at least until it got to the end. Note I'm not complaining about who he ended up with at the end; I complain about how it got there, which effectively threw hundreds of chapters of character development for the other girl right out the window. Because until the final 10 chapters of the manga it was written where he should have ended up with Rui. If he should have ended up with Hina, they should have started working toward that 50+ chapters earlier with that boat ride and them finding the lost child and moving towards it from there. But how the manga ended was so... cheap.
Well, now you have to check out Hollowness. Purely insane in every aspect of a song. My #1 Minami song hands down.
She’s one my favorite japanese singer. Her voice is insane. I definitely recommend you to check more of her songs. My personal favorite is “Drop”.
Hollowness from her is one of my favourite songs ever and i think you will also really like it since the lyrics are very strong and also about a sensitive topic
As others have already said, Hollowness is really good, but I also recommend Main Actor, Waiting for Rain and Lilac.
Great song. The anime itself is a mess though. That's why no one is recommending it to you. It's a weird love triangle story with step siblings.
So yeah. That's why no one is saying to watch it. Also really wasn't that good either, honestly. Best thing about it is the opening.
All of her songs are bangers, she's probably my fav artist to date. "Hollowness", "Waiting for rain" (sequel to this song), "Main Actor", "Lilac", one better than the other, it's nuts. I recommend it.
This is my favorite song of all time. Minami put all her heart and energy into this masterpiece of a song. The anime “Domestic Girlfriend” on the other hand isn’t one I’d recommend, I think we can all agree that it’s pretty bad, even if the opening is this good.
My favorite anime is “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime”, I think you should definitely check out the openings for that one!
The anime is so-so with a script power ending, it was an entertaining story but too much repetitive drama. So that in the end, by divine work, he would go with the other when he was already happy with one.

I would highly recommend Ado if you like Minami, since Ado is also a powerful vocalist. I recommend God-ish (my personal favorite), Fleeting Lullaby, Ussewa, Gria Gira, and Odo. A lot of options, i know, but you can always listen to them all if you want ;)
You should definitely listen to songs by ado, she's definitely the biggest rising star Vocalist in Japan right now.

Basically... imagine the most over the top Telenovela... the anime.
MC has a crush on his teacher. Gets invited to a mixer party. One of the girls offers to have their 1st time together.
Later turns out that girl from a party is the sister of the teacher he has a crush on... & MC's Dad had been dating their mom/will marry her soon.
That's episode 1.

I dropped it myself cause... after episode 1 I prepared myself for "Telenovela the anime"..
Then Episode 4 hit... & something happened that Happened in my life.
Idk how others would take it but when an over the top wild exaggerated romance show presented a moment in my life... my brain just couldn't grasp that 😅

Edit: "Domestic relationship". You are right on the spot. The sinopsis goes as this (no spoilers, it is the premises of the anime/manga):
The protagonist is a highschool boy who have a one night sex with an unknown girl of the same age. Little did he know that the girl he though would never meet again is the daughter of the new wife of his father. And even more, she has also an older sister who happens to be HIS teacher from school, which he has a crush on. And all of them go to live together when the parents decide to get married. That's all I can say without further spoiling (although I think the anime adaptation was not that good)

Not sure if its been said, but when you try to see the meaning of Japanese songs they use auto generated text and that doesn't work. Expressing yourself in Japanese might not translate either because of different culture or words that don't really exist in English that do in Japanese. We don't have a word for "The day after tomorrow" for example, it couldn't be translated. Translating it can stifle a sentence and then it messes up the flow. Don't stress too hard because you may be looking for meaning when the sentence gets translated and loses its meaning.
I love Minami and Domestic Girlfriend is a great manga with great writing, even if you don't appreciate the romance in it the secondary characters are so well written and there are a lot of heartbreaking moments not related to the main story that are just among the best I have ever read.

Awesome to see you react to this! Minami does indeed write all of her songs herself, when she first started out she was only singing acoustic guitars. You sadly won't find a first take of her, as she doesn't want to show her face, the closest video to a Minami first take are her acoustic guitar videos but as she did them in her bedroom by herself, the audio quality isn't very good. If you want another song of her, Hollowness is very heartfelt and a lot of content creators really feel connected to the lyrics. My personal favorite would be main actor as it's probably her most personal song :D
Minami has shown her face many times. Where did the 'she doesn't want to show her face come from'? She started with acoustic guitar because that and singing were the instruments she could afford at the time as she's said in an interview.

So many of these Artists that have anime opening or endings have this wonderful way of turning their music into a story. It's why we connect to it so much better and it can trigger memories for us when listening compared to traditional American pop that mostly repeats the say few lines of lyrics with a repeating track layered behind them.
Domestic Girlfriend is hands down the best romance manga I've ever read!
You actually managed to get the feeling of the anime from the song. Well done.
The story of Domestic Girlfriend can be called a very messy romance. It is a love triangle story. The male 16 year old MC is in love with his 22 year old female teacher. They get along well together, but obviously there is no way a relationship between them can develop. One day, he gets dragged to a mixer and meets this 16 year old girl. She brings him back to her apartment and she asks him to take her virginity. After the deed is done, they agree they will never meet again. The next day, his father tells him he got engaged and his fiancé is coming over with her two daughters to meet them and see if they would get along as a family. As it turns out, the two daughters are actually the teacher he loves and the girl he just lost his virginity to. So the three of them end up becoming step siblings. And the story progresses from there.
I love the anime. But unfortunately, there is only one season. But the manga is fully completed so if you enjoy the anime, you can just read the manga. The manga is better in my opinion cause it covers a lot more things the anime left out. The manga is actually the first manga I ever read and it is still my favorite. The emotions and actions of the characters just feel so believable.
Two more songs you need to listen to are the two openings for Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You. Those songs are absolute fire. That is the only way to describe them. I cannot praise them enough. And the anime itself is also great too. Koi no Uta is the first song, and Setsuna no Chikai is the second song.
Oh i really need to read the manga... i only watched the Anime in 2019 and i loved it but i never understood the hate that it gets
@@DustinDLuffy, make sure you start reading from the beginning. There is a lot of content that was left out of the anime, most likely due to time constraints. Nevermind the fact that the manga can be a bit more explicit than the anime was. I am kinda wanting to reread it now.

Openings do pull some scenes straight from the anime. Many Openings are completely newly animated.
