Sage and Sandy - what I like about you both is that you are a) authentic and b) very nice people; and you can tell that you genuinely want to help people.
(FYI Sage has taken the trouble to reply to 3 personal e-mails from me; one of them relating to a famous athelete who is trying to help former South African Comrades Athletes who are struggling to support themselves and their families.
In this day and age many people flatter to deceive and are only interested in helping if there is an obvious upside for them - Sage and Sandy are not in this group.
After watching a video about increasing stride length I was able to lower my mile and and half run by 2 minutes! Good start~
You did this by just watching this video? 🤔
@@2000triathlete Depends on how bad his form was before lol
Jessie G : 😆 right, didn’t think of that. He was probably walking prior to his 2 min decrease.
2000triathlete there’s people that can be good just by watching video and yes.
this is a real "how to", no BS, just straight to the honest points. thank you!
thank you. I know nothing about running, my speed sucks. I subscribed to learn about understand how it works.
Thanks Sage! I have been waiting on this exact video for a while. Great information and video quality
This is one of the best running videos I have seen.
This man knows his stuff! I learn a lot from you my friend
Loving your recent reels. This is good and helpful, but your reels are gold!
Your videos are getting better and better! Thanks for being a great mentor!
Keep it up! :)
Another great practical advice how to improve - I am about to start implementation today.
And the usual reminder that the results require long, hard & smart effort. This approach has been working for me during last 3 years... THANKS SAGE!
Okai, now I know how my love for sprinting improves my easy runs, I started running a couple of months ago after 10 years of nothing, I just love doing sprints at the speed I can make a couple ofrepetitions, I just did these sprints because of the thrill of moving fast on my bare feet, now I see that it is usefull for distance running.
always very helpful. your advice is definitely transforming my overall growth.
Benn doing "strides" at the end of my jogs lately and it works. Also I been practicing/trying to figure out how running at 170+ SPM is effective and you only feel it if you practice it over and over again. The methods explained by you Sage, works. Thanks for motivating me to be a more efficient runner!
Knee drive does nothing for running efficiency. Simply pulling up your leg to your butt and simply bringing your knee forward to get your forefoot to strike under your centre of mass, is all that is needed.
Great sage, one of your best videos. You rake up the most important essentials for speed apart from the speed workouts.
Brilliant video, so well put together and explained. 👍👍👍
This was definitely one of your best videos, Sage. I started applying it, and noticed without much extra effort my times slightly increased, and more importantly I noticed a lot less impact on my knees and quads.
keep the vids coming sage
Great video Sage
I really get a lot of practical information from your videos
Nice timing. I was literally just googling this last night.
Same!
Thanks Sage, definitely appreciate the pro advice!
Chronic video once again sage keep it up👍
Great video thanks Sage
I love watching your vedeos sage. I do learn a lot. I couple of half marathons here in there. but I feel I'm getting a little slower.
Just what i was looking for. Awesome. Basically I think I need to do excercises to increase power and practice form at higher speeds.
As ever.... NICELY DONE!!!!!!!
Always great advice, hit every key point!
Thanks for sharing Sage,
Cheers 🍺🍺
Peace be to you! I am a new subscriber! I'm a 50 year old distance runner preparing for my 18th marathon. I hope to FINALLY break 3 hours, Lord willing! I'll use this information to increase my speed! Thanks!😊
Thank God, and blessss you...
Omar Abdul-Malik DHEd, MPAS, PA-C
Awesome to see you here, Omar. I am an aspiring PA and a lab assistant at a hospital here in Hawaii and watch your videos. Love running as well, peace be the journey brother! Thank you & thanks sage: you da man!

Great Stuff. Great Content.
Really good advice in this video. Thanks.
Hi Sage..

i will face the 10k run on Sunday, 23 Sept 2018. Hope will increase my speed during the day. Now i am 51 minutes. Hopefully will be under 50 minutes...
Hopefully still possible to increase speed within less than one week
I enjoy your video's!!! They are really helping my running!

I love this channel
Great video Sage, great focus on the major points and some cool drills here - cheers!
Thank you for these videos.
Fantastic video
This is brilliant. Strides is like a easy cheat to a better form! Wow.
excellent video.
Thanks for posting this video, Sage! My cadence is already around 180, so I really need to work on my stride length in order to improve my pace. I've been struggling with it, but these tips seem helpful!
great video sage just what I needed. can u do a videos on high miles I always seem to cramp after 15 or 20 miles
dude you are just EPIC....thanks so much...
I found this session exceptionally helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Awesome! Thanks!
excellent video thanks
5:32 Thank you , coach Sage
Very helpful!
Good one!
tnx again.i wil try
Very helpful, thankyou
First time i've heard anyone explain how to increase a cadence. good video, i'm enjoying the tips. thanks
Jason Van Mill this is not increasing cadence i.e stride rate, but stride length
yes i understand. For me, i'm tall and have tried to increase my cadence...i'm usually around 155-160...when i run faster...say a sub 8 min mile, mile cadence increases pretty high (200) and i get worn out quickly. By picking up my speed and lengthening my stride, i'm able to not increase my cadence so much which is helping with endurance (about 180). Thanks for the video
Perfect length of video too. 8 - 12mins seems perfect. If I see a vid is 25 or so minutes long I often don't even start watching it. Just my opinion. I'm sure others have their preferences too. Keep up the good work!
Excellent video 👍🏻
Thank you!
Y’all should definitely try the atg split
Squat it will help a lot even if you have good hip mobility
Very informative. Excellent video quality and liking the new audio quality with the new wireless mic :)
Thanks man
Nice info, thx.
Nice Sage!
Another awesome video on form, great simple and efficient tips in my opinion!
great video! really like that you did it outside and Incorporated graphics and examples
Thanks a lot. You're the best! I will keep sharing your videos...
Thanks for the help sage! 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Sage, I was wondering which of the Hoka models you've been using lately. I am looking to buy the new Bondis for Christmas for myself, and would love your input on what you might be using right now since you have direct experience with Hoka models. I'm also considering using a Hoka trail runner since I run through lots of dirt and rocks to get to my road trail which is asphalt. Is there a Hoka model which does well with both surfaces? Thanks man, you're the best.
wow nice audio! nice quality improvement
Would this be beneficial for someone who lacks track speed? I am much more competitive in xc and any longer distances but once we get down to the 1500 and 3000 I struggle to keep up with my teammates that do less mileage and have less experience
clear and concise. thank you
Six years on a still great advice
great video and very informative, thanks Sage!! :-)
Thanks now i take 2 step layups from the 3pt line.
nice one! ;-)
Thank you cool
Thanks!! Great video.
To all the runners here, I believe in you. Enjoy the run everyday
Great info.. btw which shoe is that ?
Which glasses are you wearing in this video. Thanks for this video
Best training video I've see to date. Note about forwarded leaning and nasty heel strike hit home here - Not doing that anymore! Warmest Regards
Hi Sage... To be honest I bought 3 pairs of Hoka one one shoes due to seeing you wearing those shoes... I bought clifton.. Bondi 5 and vanquish...and out of the 3 frankly I just feel suitable with the Vanquish..the other 2 are bad shoes for me. I wear adidas boost and found the line of boost ( ultra, pure and solar) are great for me in terms of responsiveness...cushioning and lightweight).
Anyway I would like thank you tor helping me increasing my speed in running by improving the technique and form from your videos.
Keep on sharing your knowledge Sage...
I just got a Metronome earlier today and will test some of this out.....racing just a little above my workouts needs to change....hope to mix it up and test it out...should be fun./// IT works people....I put it to the test so beats me (pun intended) about the 4 thumbs down.///
Hey Sage. Can i implement the sprints in my easy run or should i do this exercise separatly?
I will try to introduce a bit more explosive exercises. I know I have lack of them.
I've watched your running form videos, among others on the topic of running form but still have form problems that don't seem to go away? Is there an email I could send to you of a video of me running, where you could possibly prescribe my issue? I have really been cracking down on form before the start of the season as one last desperate attempt to get faster, as I think my form is really holding me back. I would really appreciate it, thanks!
Sage what are your shoes Clifton 3? What are your thoughts on the Clifton 4?Thank you!
I also thought he was in a Clifton 3 there in the video. It was my first hoka and I was hooked. At this point you probably realized the 4 was not as good as the 3. The 5 I enjoyed a bit but once I tasted bondi there was no going back to the Clifton for me. Also tried that new carbon x on in the shop and trotted around... Now that shoe seems awesome. I am impressed with the light / fast yet cushioned feel. Pricy though
Hi Sage, I'm surprised you didn't mention downhill running for improving stride length. Running down a slight downhill grade allows you to open your stride without taxing your cardio as much, meaning you can do more strides without going anaerobic. It's also pretty good for turnover too. What do you think?
I have trouble with downhill running due to overstriding obviously causing pain. So, I slow down almost instantly while going downhill. I don't really know how to fix this. Now, your statement confuses even more on how to do it. Any video you may suggest? Or advice?
I'm new to running but I'm fit, have plenty of stamina and great leg strength.
@@lindatalla2945 I got injured due to downhill running too fast a couple of months ago, now I slow down while people passing by like trailers 😪
@@mustaphab.1190 lol...me too!
now thats an efficient way to instantly destroy your knees. Casual 50 meters downhill everynow and then good (twice a month at most) but making that practice a normal in your training will destroy your knees and pelvis

On my easy runs should I practice this technique or only for high exertion workouts
How often should I practice theses exercises?
quick question, im a british paratrooper just looking on getting a faster mile and a half time im currently getting around 9 minutes on the dot and aiming for around 8:30.
I train constantly and can feel my cardio sky rocketing but im really only good at endurance workouts like constant up hills or long slow runs carrying weight.
Is there any specific workouts i can do to increase my speed? i just feel like my body refuses to go faster.
Shane Vassallo Paleologo How's your stride rate? If it's lower than 170 then you need to improve it. Stride Rate separates the average- above average- elite runners. Slowly gradually increase your cadence(stride rate) and you'll start to see some huge results. Good luck
What about ankle mobility?
My hip flexors always get tight. Would taking muscle relaxers when I run work?
Jose Aguilar do front and side leg swings. I had the same problem but once I did this before my runs, I had no problems
And is your microphone so clear when you are outside? That is awesome sound!
My turnover rate is in the recommended range, but I am running too slow (8:00 minute mile average). In fact my son who runs much faster (on school track team), told me I am not taking long enough steps. And running next to him, we are both around 5'10 height, and his stride is longer. (My legs spin like an egg beater compared to him.) Since I already have a fast turnover rate, the only way for me to go faster, is to increase stride, correct? But I had read in several places, that increasing stride length can lead to injury, because of harder pounding and leading leg acting more like a "brake". Maybe I read wrong? I will try the training approach mentioned in the video, because I feel like I have the potential to run much faster.
