You should definitely speak more Korean at home with them. My mom always spoke Chinese with me and I didn’t really reply in Chinese until I was like 9 yo but she never gave up and I’m very happy because I speak Chinese like my mothertongue and I can even speak in a local dialect! It’s so useful and I think it would be very nice for your children to know Korean :-)!
I wish my mom would’ve let me stay with my grandparents longer so I could’ve got better at speaking Korean 😭😂I understand fine but my grandmother always want me to reply back to her in Korean but I sound so horrible and stutter too much over my words 😭😂
Keep doing this. in a couple of weeks everyone will start using a little Korean. Don’t give up it’s really a privilege being bilingual. Give that privilege to your kids
I've heard that to make your kids bilingual, one parent should speak in only one language, and the other parent another one. Then they get used to it very quickly
That's very individual though. I work with kids and some parents make that stratehy work while in other families it doesn't work that well at all and the kids gets confused. Some kids just gets it and other don't. Kids are different. But it's always worth a try. What is known is that kids who are learning a second language will have an easier time if they are good with their native language first. So if this bilingual thing doesn't work, it's better to focus on just one language first. But yeah, kids are different.
my parents tought me 3 languages while growing up what they did was when i lived in one country they would speak to me in a different language (than that country) and so on. That worked really well in my opinion
Kind of. I usually have to speak to my dad in Spanish, my mother knows both but I talk to her in English. I spoke a lot of Spanish when I was younger, but as I grew, I figured out that my dad can understand most English. I started to speak "Spanglish" to him, which made me lose a lot of my Spanish. Maybe it's just because I live in a English speaking country, or because I just gave up talking to him in full on Spanish. I'm trying to learn it back though. I understand all of the language, it's just hard to speak some of it.
I react the same way whenever I hear bts in public 😭😭😭 this video is so cute! I think it’s important to surround your family with your native language because I think it’s cool to be bilingual. I know Urdu from my parents who are from Pakistan, english because i was born in America, and am currently learning Japanese cause i take it in school. But I wish I knew Urdu more because i’m the youngest child so I was the least exposed to it and have trouble with the grammar/speaking :( I wish I was better at it so I could be more comfortable speaking with my cousins from Pakistan akdsjdbsjs so I try and speak it with my parents at home as I want to get better 🥺
I was at this restaurant with my brothers and the restaurant played let go and i started crying while I was eatin. My brothers just laughed at me and said I probably didn't even understand the lyrics 😑😑 I know I'm still learning Korean and Japanese but I definitely know the meaning of the song 😂😂
Looking at you being so happy already having 3 children 🥺 I'm so scared to have children. I'm so scared of labour and just the whole process but seeing others happy with their own families just warms my heart. How did you deal with it all? And were you fearful when you were birthing for the first time? Ps anyone can reply to this comment
I dont have kids, but my mother recently had another. I was the only child for 20 years, my mom is 39. She was worried about it but had a really good support system and doctors who genuinely cared for her and my brother. She had an epidural for the. pain and she pushed my brother out with 3 pushes without feeling any pain. She wanted to have him naturally like she had me with no pain medicine but she couldn't handle it and that's okay.
@@Accidantal how is she after the fact? Is she alright? 🥺 I really want to have kids one day but the fear of it all just eats me up. Not to mention that I'm a tiny women, I'm 165cm tall but I weigh 43kg so I'd be terrified to even try having a baby in my stomach
If you are afraid with labour pain, go to a good hospital for labour.. the labour pain for the 1st stage feels just like a normal stomach ache.. if you go to a good hospital, they can give you epidural for you to lessen the pain.. for me labour pain is bearable.. don't worry too much.. i have 3 kids within 4years.. I delivered my 1st baby when im 33years old. And my 3rd baby when i was 35yrs old.

im so glad u are teaching them korean their original language so that they know about their country. i grew up without knowing how to speak my "origin" language so now that i'm in my hometown i met my family for the first time since i've been abroad my whole life and i can't communicate with them it's so frustrating!

it’s so nice to see this, bc i forgot spanish and it sucks as i got older bc i can’t communicate w my grandparents in their mother tongue. and my grandpa doesn’t speak english nor understands it well so i speak broken spanish to him. i’ve never had a real convo w him and it saddens me. i just nod my head to everything he says bc i understand, but i can’t reply :( i’m learning rn tho it’s def getting better. but it would’ve been great if i didn’t give up as i got older. it’s harder when i got bullied for being mexican too. i wish i embraced my culture more and appreciated it more, disappointed in my younger self but i know i was just young and wanted to “fit” in. it’s harder when u grow up in a community that frowned upon it.
I hope you guys keep it up T____T I’ve always been so curious about my heritage (I’m Filipino on one side and Japanese/European on the other) but none of my family members really taught me much of either of the languages. It’s sad because my younger cousins don’t really have an interest in culture or language, I keep wondering what will be left behind when my Grandparent’s generation is no longer here with us. Ziek saying Hyung to Galahad was so cute lol. Hope everything is well for the Toronto MOTS concert. I have tickets for LA and Chicago, I’m so worried about what will happen.
Speak Korean as much as you can! Kid's won't get confused or be worse at English just because they have another/multiple languages!! If I had spoken it early on, my German would have definitely been better
