"Day of the Tentacle" is abreviated as DOTT. It's a LucasArts Adventure Game that takes place after "Maniac Mansion".
The only thing that I modified was the Audio. I took two MIDI samples and a Roland sample of the intro music and combined it together, matching up parts that were out of synch and taking out the crunchy sounds. I then added a take of just the voice and sound effects and compiled it.
For playing the game, and changing settings at will, I used SCUMMVM (available at scummvm'dot'org). For recording, I used CaptureWiz and recorded using the "WhatYouHear" feature in stead of my microphone.
All credit goes to Lucas Arts for making this wonderful game. I simply tweaked the intro to make it slightly more presentable and enjoyable.
This was such a good game.
Massive part of my teenage years, I'd love to play this game again from start to finish!!
it took me a couple of hours to end the game again :D amazing.... :)
It will probably take me a couple of days- I remember going round in circles a lot, but it was worth it! :)
I think it took me way longer... o.o'
Specially since I had to stop at the arcade to play Maniac Mansion 1 from start to finish as my copy were copy-protected and I could not pass the door without exploding the whole mansion.. =/
Stels, you can do it with Dosbox and a copy of the game, should not be hard to find around the net...
the first time i played it it took me.... months.... almost a year and i have to be honest, i finished the thing this time just because i remembered most of it... and i used some hits in certain critical points. But still, it was fun :)
Oh yes Marcos, I forgot about Maniac Mansion! I've probably forgotten how long it really took me to finish it, I bet it was nearly a year for me too Superman21986...but you're right, it was fun :)))
"This must be that Woodstock place Mom and Dad are always talking about..."
Favourite line ever.
(sigh) How far LucasArts has fallen... With today's technology, imagine what amazing point-and-click adventures they could produce...
15 years later, this is still the best and most humoristic intro I've ever seen.
You hit the nail on the head. I grew up with DOTT and Sam N Max and Fate of Atlantis and Full Throttle. Now, they couldnt make a decent flash game.
Cannot wait to see this intro in HD :)
Watching this video, and thinking that LucasArts was shut down, and that they reportedly had a remastered version of DOTT in the workings, almost makes me literally cry to tears.
I bet you're ecstatic now...
Just announced now, Double Fine making Day of the Tentacle Special Edition www.pcgamer.com//day-of-the-tentacle-special-edition-announced-plus-grim-fandango-date/
Nimmo1492 RMJ1984 WOAH! Thank you guys, I had not heard of it! Wonderful, and it's the real Tim Schafer! That's a great time for remakes of great classics, this is very similar to what is happening with Oddworld New 'n' Tasty!
Not to rain on your parade Paolo but Tim Schafer is now an arrogant washed up shadow of himself, despite getting 3.3 million dollars from kickstarter he barely made half the gake he's supposed to and is now drying up all his other projects in an effort to get some money back for Doublefine. Sorry Paolo but he isn't the game designer he used to be :/
***** I have not followed him at all, and I had to google his name to realise that he was the co-designer of DOTT. Well, the only think we can say is "we'll" see. True is that the base to build on is great, which means it's easier than in other case to make a great remake, but is even easier to screw it up. We'll see, really... :)
Perfect! This intro always makes me smile...thanks for uploading.
A perfect intro to a tragically-forgotten masterpiece.
this game should have a sequel....
***** I don't think so. You know, it is already pefect, so better not spoil it with a possibly crappy sequel...
+Lonel650 With that thinking we'd never see this game, no? It's the sequel to Maniac Mansion, and that game seemed impossible top for a long time
That's a remaster, not a sequel.
It got a rematerd
Still looks superb even today, and one of my all time favourite adventure games.
..it was a great inspiration to us when we developed NORMALITY INC on the PC just after this came out!
3:49 -- Bernards Depression has gotten the Best of him, and so he decided to „end it all“. Despite the Lack of Airbags, Seatbelts and high enough Speed to make the Wheel fly off the Truck, they disembark uninjured and without Resentment, nor Worry.
Telltale should get the license for Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle :)
One of the best games EVER!
Also this is how you fucking make an awesome intro / credits into one things, where its actully cool to what the intro and see who made it. New games could learn from this :D
Why was this so terrifying when I was like 5 years old? =_=
+TheRealXartaX You have downs but no one has told you.
Same
Maybe the music... I miss this game, why they did thimbleweed park instead of a 2.. even if copyrights, I wouldn't give myself a shit and try to do it.
I want to play it on my ipad. I played it as a kid but never understood the language. Now I do but the game is so old :) It was amazing. Me and my friend completed it, sharing and exchanging the ideas we found out ... it was still amazing childhood

It’s evolution baby…
I can't wait for the HD re-release!
Le meilleur jeu de l'univers c'est celui ci et puis c'est tout !
Tout à fait d'accord
if you actually think about it, this game was really advanced for its time, with the whole switching characters n story lines etc, Poor lucas arts, they really have fallen onto the sword.
I love these old adventure games.
The first "MANIAC MANSION" was first made for PC and then ported on other systems (NES, Commodore 64 and so on -- I have heard that the NES version was particularly buggy, allowing you to skip most of the game with a few tricks).
This is the sequel. It's called "DAY OF THE TENTACLE" but really you can consider it a kind of "MANIAC MANSION 2".
The characters give me the creeps XDDD juuust like the old days..
Awsome game :P
best. game. ever.
At 1:56 that's the most normal I think Laverne has ever looked in the whole game 😂
yeah :D she always has a somewhat freaked out wacky look :D which is absolutely great imo.
I'm almost in the same boat as you except that my childhood only got the demo of Full Throttle. (I had to wait till I was grown up and play the whole thing on scummvm.)
Holy nostalgia batman, I love this gem of a game. Solid audio c:
Oh this is brilliant! Super creepy but really well drawn, although the animation framerate is very low and inconsistent. I swear plankton from Spongebob took some inspiration from purple’s take over the world speech too.
RE: to yuvalfilm
"What is the name of the musical piece that is playing at the beginning? (quite famous - used many times - in "quiet, calm, everything-is-all-right" scenes...)"
--
William Tell Overture by Rossini. Not to be confused though with the, no less famous, conclusion to that SAME piece. Also used many many times but with completely opposite scenes - "fast, urgent, everything-is-rushed" lol etc. =)
To all the confused readers of this comment: just search for "Ranz Des Vaches", it will save you many minutes.
This game shows how distant PC and console games were 23 years ago. PC and console gaming were very distinct and players were on different leagues. Today there is no difference since a lot of major company games have pc/console releases. Also, players today play both since pc´s are more affordable. How curious is the gaming history.
HarvestDude I can't get into pc gaming, unfortunately. It's a shame, as I haven't ever played this game myself. I have got the cd, though.
Owning both a Roland MT-32 and a Sound Canvas, I can recognise the samples in each.
Combining them together does sounds different, can't say it's an improvement though.
I wonder if I could take on the world by growing an additional set of arms, because these two doesn´t seem to be enough for that purpose.
That was probably a reference to "opposable thumbs" =)
But yes, that was indeed the intention.. see how bigger than life he was made at the end and how (needlessly) afraid green tentacle was of him? lol with the compulsory dramatic thunder at the end of the line ^_^ sorry.. im over analysing this stuff... hahaha
TAKE ON THE WOOORLD!
Back to the mansion!
One of the best computer games of all time. =) Loved to play it, need to play it again now. =)
Great audio mixing well done !
Pierre Martin should be intersting to do something similar with for instance Duke Nukem 3D ; )
@UnoriginalMaterial don't forget to mention Daedalic Entertainment. They're the new adventurekings! Alot of good and upcoming fanadventures too.
Best adventure ever.
@doritisfat so many great adventures from Germany: Edna breaks out, Deponia, Harvey's New Eyes, Lost Horizon, Secret Files, Ceville, jack Keane, Ankh and so on...
Actually the people who started Telltale are the ones that make all the adventure games from Lucasart.
I want a movie about all the Lucasarts classics (Sam and Max, Day Of The Tentacle, Full Throttle)!
wow dude, this music is excellent
Ah, the days before the Japanese ruined the word "tentacle" for a whole generation of gamers.
come on Lucas arts give the rights to this game to telltale so they can re release this so I can play it
Combining the general midi and Roland music makes this sound like Phil Spector :)
@RMJ1984 that's how corporate game industries work now.
Only now I noticed, but Purple Tentacle's voice sound a lot like Wolverine's, on the original animated series.... I wonder who are the voice actors...
One of my favorite games:)
I really dig the remastered version. Easier interface.
The old SCUMM system with small screen not so much
I love Laverne. She's intense. :)
Actually yes, I was incorrect. Commodore 64 version was the original for Maniac Mansion.
This, though, is the sequel, called Day of the Tentacle.
i still find myself quoting this intro lol
It is known as the 'Ranz Des Vaches' medley.
Search for it on Wikipedia and other sites.
Hope that helps! ^_^
I´ve never played a good adventure game that wasn´t made by Lucasarts.
'high quality'
Welcome to the current year, folks :)
No, the real first maniac mansion released 1987 for the Commodore 64.
Read on wikipedia, the 64 is the original :D
If you want a modern Adventure Game made by ex-Lucas Arts employees, without an amazing art direction held back by 90s hardware try out A Vampyre Story. It's great.
Telltale must do a new Maniac Mansion game!
I also recommend the Deponia games, they are great!
I also tried it on Dosbox and ScummVM and depending on what i use to emulate the music and soundeffects are totally different
Damn fluoridated/chlorinated water.
You can't improve on perfection.
If you can't play it on a modern pc (or many other devices) then install ScummVM and run it through that
Is the purple tentacle voiced by Don LaFontaine? Surely sounds like him
croissant caverns inspiration?
You should try the Runaway serie by Pendulo Studios
check Amanita Design, they made Machinarium, Samorost. etc
Yes, I know, I played this game (on an emulator ._. ) and it's really great. Anyways, thi game has been released when the Commodore 64 was nearly dead (the one I've bought doesn't count, I think -^o^-), so there has never been a DOTT-Version for Commodore 64.
I just mixed up something, so my first comment isn't really correct.
BUT: In Ed's room, you find a C64(-C) where you can play the whole originam Maniac Mansion (except there are some heavy bugs) and in general, there are many References.
Hasn't this originally been "MANIAC MANSION" for the Commodore 64?
I've played this game on 4 different PCs and the music sounds slightly different on each - depends on your soundcard setup I guess...
Someone needs to set Bernard straight and tell him not to be a tuna head..
What's the name of the piece from 0:09 to 0:24? It sounds so familiar.
For these music inhancements is this for display purposes or can you play the entire game with this mod?
Im using scummVM for Nintendo Wii, works great with all the voices. Wii remote perfect for click & play games...
I've just posted a comment related to that... Would him be the same voice actor of wolverine's on the animated series?
You shouldn't have messed with the Audio dude!!
the music starts at 2:35
1.19 Epic
I thought I'd seen you before :P
Doesn't this game run on MS-DOS?
Do you have a single fact of evidence to back that up?
@rgaia correction: Lucas Arts Ruled
Yessssssss
Hahah probably!
Sushi?
Great video, but MIDI really doesn't do this game's music justice.
Is this game was called Maniac Mansion 2?
Funny x] Never seen before :3
Hmmm try deponia,i am sure you wont regret it.
What version is this? (I'm asking because some of the instruments sound different to me.)
@DareDevilWithoutFear I don't think it's underrated... Everybody i know love this game....
can someone tell me what is that music in the very beginning ???
Blasphemy! Turning childhood memories into a weird whatever.
ok
what's the name of the starting song?
2:15
Can you buy this game for PC?
hi, anyone know when the 'remake' is out on PS4 and Vita ? thanks in advance.
+David Boris Fernandez 2016 at some point. Thats what we keep hearing at the forum at double fine about news of the game. So it might be quite a bit longer before it comes out.
Whats the name of the song in the beginning?
ANgelZ522 It's hte opening of Guillaume tell ^^
You didn't provide a single piece of evidence. "They didn't make a good game" isn't enough, explain WHY their games arn't good.
@doritisfat Larry 7 for me :)
Its sad how far Lucas arts have fallen, they were the best!, and now they are making shitty Starwars game after another :(
