She actually gave an interview saying that it took 2 years for her to get permission to record this cover because Prince's policy is so strict. But LA Reid had Prince listen to it and he personally approved it. And it takes a miracle for Prince to allow a cover of his.
Yeah, there is a video interview here, about her finding out that Prince approved her. She cried.
I'm just hearing this today on my work, anffg that wry as all I could think was did she get permission.
Now I can really enjoy it. Lol..
I think people forget that Prince won a grammy for this song. Glad she's introducing a whole new audience to the song and his genius.

RIP Prince. A great artist. He allowed Morgan to record this song and he seldom did so as he was very protective of his recordings.

I too generally hate Prince covers but I heard this on the car radio (rarely listen to the radio btw) and literally stopped talking to my friend to ask if he knew who it was. He didn't so I went home and searched until I found it.

Figures- The "industry" gives us freak shows like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus and women like this have more talent and passion in their pinky than any of those "super stars".
Lady Gaga, I believe, has finally quit listening to the advice of the "music moguls" who care not about her, but the money they can make off her looking like a freak. I think she's come to her senses, as evidenced by her work with Tony Bennett and the Grammy tribute to Sound of Music. Stephanie can sing.
We'll see. I find it hard to believe that ANYONE would allow themselves to be totally made over into "looking like a freak", crazy money and fame or not, unless they were fine with being that way on at least some level. It may not be by any means the heart of who they are, but it's still a role they're willing to play and be. I'd say odds are the Tony Bennett and other stuff are side projects but at the end of the day she'll still be the Lady Gaga that has been created already. Maybe not though.
Jason Hawes I think Lady Gaga is using more of a "shock" publicity stunt with the costumes and the "Mother Monster" persona. I agree, I think the stuff with Tony Bennett are just side projects and her latest album was another typical Lady Gaga album. She has toned down some of the crazy costumes and I think she is slowly starting to just become a slightly eccentric singer/songwriter. But this is just my thoughts on the matter.

I read some of the comments and as a consumer and producer I think people are not understanding what this re-make really is. Prince will always gets total credit for being the original writer of this song but for Morgan James its simply showing off her ability to sing on a level she might not have the creativity or skills to create. This track could be a great platform for industry producers & writers to take interest in her and could help take her to the next level. All artist cant do everything only few can really deliver the whole package. With the assistance and support she has the potential to be a legend too.
