This is my take on 'what if Halbrand is actually Sauron ?". A theory I enjoy very much. I tried to compile all the clues I found while exploring his relationship with Galadriel.

There would be no balance. She constantly needed someone to bring her back from her agressive tendencies. Sauron would only amplify them, even if he himself would have wanted for her to retain her light, he wouldn't be able to help maintain it.

I know it's a travesty what the show runners did here by suggesting that these two had a romantic connection at one point of their lives, but you know what? I'm digging it. Hahahaha. Who wants to see Celeborn now? Not me. 😂

The two are made for each other. Galadriel Prime is a true dark lord.
It’s believable tbf since she was always one of the edgier elves in a lot of ways like so it’s plausible that she could’ve joined him if a few things had been slightly different.
For me it really brings home her later attitude and innate darkness, she did indeed touch the dark.

These two have chemistry. I know their story in the books and it's kinda ridiculous they're aiming for a romantic angle on these two but they just sizzle on screen. The sexual tension is there.

That’s perfect! I get a lot of klaus and Caroline vibes from them too. Rey and Ben and their dyad. Rhaenyra and Daemon. Those are three of my favorite ships and now I have this one too. Sauron being capable of anything outside of manipulation and the desire for control and domination is not something that is in the books at all. They literally say that he cannot understand Gandalf or his motives at all. True care for others and no desire to take the ring even if it would give him the power to defeat him. Seeing him this way instead is something I am very much here for. I love a dark powerful badass villain who becomes soft for one girl and hates it but loves her anyway.
@@TheLindsayKnudsen that Klaus and Caroline dynamic was pretty evident, even though it's not in the books I still think the dynamic was pretty close to the cuff and to see it in this way also conveys how easily Galadriel could have gone to the dark side....we all have that potential 🤷♀️

I cannot deny that my heart has greatly desired this.” Then she literally quotes some of the things he said to her. “In place of a dark lord you would have Queen.” “Stronger than the foundations of the earth”. I like that you can look at it like she never quite forgot even thousands of years later. It’s also says that when that moment she held the ring is over and she says she passed the test, that she gives “a small sad smile”. If you add all this in its kind of heart breaking. Like she is fully aware and has been for ages that there is no saving him now. But she probably thinks back to when he was halbrand and back to the raft and wishes things were different.
Agreed. The problem with darkness is that is has a certain purity about it.
@@ds1868 darkness cannot be without light nor the light without the darkness because neither would know itself without the other....life always seems to require a balance and when that balance gets disrupted is when we see things go really wrong
Did you know Halbrand was Sauron before making this? Looking back he talks about the evil he's done; no going back; if they knew they would cast me out - and it gives me chills cause I never once thought he was Sauron until the season finale. Amazing show! Btw you should update this with the raft scene

Thanks for your comment. I guessed from episode 3 he was someone evil but episode 6 and his confrontation with Adar really confirmed it for me and gave me this urgent desire to edit it. I did this video with all this in mind, really hoping for a reveal in the finale and I’m glad I did. I’m now working on a new video !! Can’t Wait to post it.
I also don’t think it was as obvious as everyone makes it to be. The clues and symbolisms were there all along but it was there for people who are deeply interested in the lore, Tolkien letters etc. My partner watched it with me and didn’t pick it up. And that’s why it was so well done imo

Tbh I think the only reason criticise the show is because alot of people know about the lord of the rings story already, so if everyone didn't know about it then the show would be amazing

Sauron almost sounds repentant in these scenes.
After morgoth got cast into the void he legitimately was for awhile. Just never for long. And never enough to turn him self over to the valar like he was supposed to.

Fans of Lord of the rings are mad that She isn’t lore accurate but if she were lore accurate than people would be complaining that she is a Mary Sue.
true.. and also to have her be exactly the same all the time is also kind of bland. With this we see the 'dark' side of Galadriel that we didnt get to see but knew that she had something to made her draw to the power.

@@jellyfishi_ it has been 10 months and after learning more about Lord Of The Rings I was baffled that I wrote this commentary. Just like mother Mary she wasn’t perfect and could only do so much in the bigger picture. It is a shame and appalling that she was portrayed the way she was in the show.
Instead of getting a feminine beauty trying to make the world more peaceful by creating kingdoms, we got an edgy teen that could only think with her sword.
The real question is, can galadriel change Sauron?
No. As much as I would love that and my head canon believes there is a universe where she makes a different choice and says yes, here she cannot. In the books and movies she was powerful as hell. Here it doesn’t even seem like she has magic. Meaning their relationship is super imbalanced. In the books it says during this time he wanted to change. He wanted redemption. To get it he decided to save middle earth but he doesn’t know how without being a dictator. This version of Galadriel wouldn’t be able to stop him doing terrible things unless he was willing to humor her. In the end though she would end up becoming an elf witch for him. He would dominate her totally and be less of a Queen more of a general.

Sometimes, staying true to the source material means giving up the chance for blissful innovation. It's what we want, but not what we need.
@TheLindsayKnudsen You forget - Sauron here is also seemingly weaker after Adar killed him - it destroyed his physical body and he probably had to spend some time as a wraith before he could craft himself a new one. And he is still recovering. Or else running away from the orcs would make no sense - he'd just kill everyone who opposed him.
Sauron, at least here, was in a rare moment of vulnerability, where, powerless and weakened, he met a kindred spirit (regardless of if you regard their relationship as platonic or romantic), and the overall situation as well as Galadriel made him start to rethink his beliefs.
His failures together with his guilt made him give up, but Galadriel gave him hope that he could be something more and do something good. And that was always his dream and his ambition.
It's not before they came to Eregion and he heard about the mirthril and the Elves' plight that it all came to him how he could restart his previous plans that he had abandoned because of continuous failures (and Adar physically banishing him from existence).
Sauron stood on a crossroad and he had a real chance here - where he was wrong-footed and doubted all his previous beliefs - he had a chance to choose the right path. Who knows? - had they had more time, had Adar didnt blow up the mountain, forcing the events into motion that ended up with Sauron learning about mithril and Elves plight and (too early) having to face the temptation of quick and easy "fix", maybe Sauron could have found the right footing. Instead, before he could unlearn his worse life lessons and learn new better ones, he, sort of, came to the Tree of Knowledge in Eden.
Soo after s1 final am kinda rooting for sauron, till s2 proof me otherwise

Because Tolkien's Sauron never took the form of an elf. Tolkien described Sauron 's appearance in the First Age: "his own accustomed [human-like] form". In Second Age Sauron: "The form that he took was that of a man of more than human stature, but not gigantic."
Sauron-Elf - it's the game, not canon.
