Describe people and things in Jamaican using "Wah" - Lesson 27
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 мар 2024
- In Jamaican in full conversation the use of "who", "whose" and "that" is sometimes eliminated and replaced with "Wah (sometimes sounds like "weh")". This lesson breaks down how we use each.

Something in the previous lesson I didn't understand is waa and a .A book ,waa book
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t yes…we use “one” sometimes in place of “a” for singular…and at full speed when paired with a noun/pronoun pronounced “waa”….waa man, waa ooman, waa cyar, waa bwoy, waa girl a look fi yuh.
Teacher something not connected to this lesson but I would love to know how I can say the following in patwa÷I could not come because of the rain?
What if I say bring di bookle seh pon di table fi me
Big up fi teach mi! mi waan fi ask, what is the difference between "seh" and "wah" when refferring to "That"?
Bless up. “Seh” is used as a connector to flow the conversation so less hard breaks instead of of using “dat”… fi example: “Mi know seh yuh love music” while “wah” in is used as a descriptor in place of “that” fi example: “Mi know seh yuh only love music wah Beenie man mek!” (English: I know that you only love music that Beenie Man makes). Mek mi know if dis help 👊🏾
Yow! I don't know if you have a video on this, but I have a question about the accent. I feel like my accent is starting to come together, but I don't really understand how to pronounce words with "or" in it. I've heard varying pronunciations of words that have the same cluster of letters (or). For example: I've heard "foreign" pronounced "farrin", but I've also heard "corner" pronounced "caanaa", and "more" pronounced like "moar". Is there a pattern on how to pronounce the O-R in words, or does it just vary? thanks a lot
Yeah…I did a series on the Dominant A and how it affects how we sound…but the summation is…most of our “r” sounds are replaced with a relaxed “ah” sound. I haven’t done vowel sounds and pronunciation yet but to skip ahead…you’re correct…the long “o” has a “u-o-ah” sound if you phonetically sound that out…that’s why “door” will sound like “d-u-o-ar”. I’ll cover it in more detail but you’re on the right track 👊🏾🇯🇲
Question I want to buy land to move to Jamaica. do you know some areas I can look at?
I’m from Manchester the Mandeville area (center of the island) and Portland has the reputation of the nicest parish…but it all depends on what your needs are. I left there in 1998 and there’s been a lot of changes and improvements since. Check out channels like Pure Jamaica, may be able to give you some more insight 👊🏾🇯🇲
Can I also just say mi want a book or should I say mi want waa book??
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t either is acceptable 👊🏾
Teacher Andry would love to ask something about the locative description in patwa.like saying he is in Uganda.will it be him deh a uganda?
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t Perfeck!!!! Yup! “Him/im deh a Uganda” good job mi G 👊🏾
@@ChatPatwah Thank you my teacher I am also putting effort I love 🇯🇲 so much and the culture and the ladies too.
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t 👊🏾
Teacher Andry how about i am still stuck at*did*.can i say you did eat?or you eat? Are both correct?
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t yes…wi would structure di sentence “Yuh did eat aready?” “Yuh eat aready?” “Yuh did eat yet?” “Yuh eat yet?”
When would you use seh for “that” or Wah for “that”
In conversation when you’re not describing anything…as a a connector only, not to end a sentence…example: You know seh mi only have $5 to mi name! = You know that I only have $5 to my name!. So you would use “seh” there in place of “that” to connect “Do you know + I only have $5”. Let me know if that helps. 👊🏾🇯🇲
@@ChatPatwah perfect mi thank you
I can't come? I can come?
How to use can and can not
He came on Sunday?can I say him did come pon Sunday??
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t yeh…yuh can use dat or “Him did deh yah Sundeh” = He was here on Sunday
@@ChatPatwah how about I will visit you on Sunday. Is it mi a guh visit yuh pon Sunday or on Sunday?
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t yeh…couple ways: “Mi a guh come check yuh Sundeh” “Mi wi link yuh Sundeh” “Mi a guh pass chru Sundeh” couple of ways you can say this but what you have is also correct.
Was just suprised how bottlle in patwa is bokkle
@@user-zb9tt7mo3t yeah…words containing -ttle and -tle usually get pronounced -kkle or -kle such as little would be likkle and title would be tikle 👊🏾🇯🇲
Thanks so much Teacher Andry.i am actually very serious with the lessons.
How to say you should have done it and you should not have done it in patwa
