Egyptian Desert Becomes Sea | Egypt Digs Thousands of Pools in the Desert

The Egyptian desert shrimp farming project managed by Elkomy Group is a breakthrough in aquaculture, utilizing saline groundwater and advanced technology. Located in Egypt’s western desert, the project covers more than 2,000 hectares and utilizes a modern water recirculation system. Started in 2019 and completed in the first phase in 2022, the project produces shrimp on a large scale with the aim of improving food security and sustainability. The main challenge of the harsh desert conditions is overcome through cooling and filtration technology.
