Coach, thanks for adding another tool to our bags. After watching multiple high level women go down to ACL tears right before the World Cup and now Sergino Dest, I've been wondering what the coaching world has been doing to address this. Are there typically sports medicine soccer clinics available to learn about these types of exercises?

Not sure about clinics but there are other resources regarding pep and other programs like it. Definitely as coaches we don’t focus on warm up and injury prevention enough. Especially on the women’s side and older groups.

What made you go with PEP instead of FIFA 11+? PEP is the first program I’ve seen in a long time recommending static stretching in the warm-up as opposed to cool down.

Haven’t seen the data on fifa 11+. ACL specific medical evidence exists for pep. FIFA 11 might also have this but that is why I choose to do video on it.

Would this be a separate warmup before a game or do you recommend mainly doing this before practice?

Before every game and practice. Delay individual for player prior to team training and warm ups for games.

    Why not dynamic stretches?

Not entirely sure the developmental process behind the PEP program. Just that it has been proven to reduce ACL injuries. At the end of the day it is falling on coaches more and more to prevent injury.
