    42 here. My biggest regret is tanning! I tanned from when I was 14-15 until my 30th birthday. My skin is great because of how much work I have put into it with sunscreen and skincare but I can only imagine how much better it would be if I had never tanned. I also participated in the skinny brow trend but have been using castor oil and brow serum for over a decade now and they are fuller than they have ever been. I also chopped my waist length hair into a short bob with bangs only to find out that my hair is curly and it took 4 years to grow it out to a good length. I see someone now that is trained in cutting curly hair and it was one of the best hair decisions I have ever made. No cowlicks for the last 5+ years!😂

      Love it! Ugh, yes, the tanning is a huge regret for me as well. Not so much for the accelerated aging it probably cause but I have a family history of melanoma 🤦🏼‍♀️. Oye, I wish I could take that back for sure! Love that you also learned a hard hair less like me lol. You live, you learn, right?

    I recently read a New York Times article titled, “How Much Blush is Too Much”, and it mentions ’blush blindness’. I have definitely worn too much blush myself in the past. During the pandemic I stopped wearing makeup for a while and finally realized I have naturally rosy cheeks and that I don’t ‘have’ to wear blush. It makes me wonder why I would put so much blush on for years, when I really didn’t need it. My biggest beauty regret is eyebrows too. If the Brooke Shields look had still been popular in the 90’s instead of the super-model-skinny-brow-look most of us probably would’ve gotten through that decade with better brows. My mother told me not to pluck my brows, but I didn’t listen to her and wielded those tweezers often. I stopped plucking completely around 2010’ish and it took years, but most of them grew back and I don’t know how honestly after so long. But, I do have some areas I need brow pencil to fill in and I know that probably wouldn’t be necessary if I just let them alone.🤦🏻‍♀️

      Oh I have seen some pics and even videos of myself from the past with way more blush than I personally have any business wearing lol! It's good to reflect sometimes haha!

    I kept waiting for you to bring out the pictures from the past :). I'm 60 and my #1 regret is sunbathing. I grew up in the south and my goal every summer was to get the darkest tan possible. Now I spend time trying to figure out how to get rid of all the sun damage. I have the thin eyebrows, and so does my 80 year old mother, so this trend was around way to long. The third regret would be the 80's hairstyle with the tall hair plastered in hairspray. It makes for a good laugh now though.

    According to my pictures from the 90s, my early 20s look consisted of a Casper white face/body and black, and I mean black, eyebrows. I don’t understand. 😂
    I often self tan now…and enjoy eyebrows that match my lightish brown hair…for a softer look. 😅

    Definitely over plucking the eyebrows in middle school. I was teased by fellow classmates so I took matters into my own hands which was a mistake. Mine unfortunately never grew back. Finally when I learned about powder brows I had those done in my thirties. Best decision ever.

    49. I think most of beauty regrets revolve around hair choices. I never did skinny brows mainly because my brows were so full when I was young-couldn’t take the pain. 😂 So here’s my hair regrets 1) Clackamas claw bangs. 2) The spiral perm. That took forever to grow out and it was rough going. 3) Maroon/wine semi permanent hair color. I don’t know why I thought that was even remotely flattering on me. 😂

    • @MrKongsMom

      I love that you call it the Clackamas Claw. Was this because of Tonya Harding by any chance???? She had the glorious bangs as well. She used to practice at the Clackamas Mall lol! I really wish they would have left that ice rink there! Craig actually played hockey there as a kid lol.

    I'm 49 and I also participated in the skinny brow trend although not on purpose! The first time I went to get my brows "shaped" (and even brought a picture!) she waxed me so that i had an arched brow maybe 2-3 hairs wide 🤦🏻‍♀️😭. I spent the next 6 months looking perpetually surprised and another 6-12 months looking even more ridiculous as they grew out. Needless to say, I've never gotten my brows done by anyone again! Other trends: I dressed in neon everything for at least 4 years of my life (thank God there are no pictures 😆), did the teased and hair sprayed to the heavens - curled bangs, and not sure I'll ever forget the super wide hammer pants 😂😂! And of course my absolute biggest regret was tanning all throughout my childhood through adulthood.

    I love your honestly about everything. We all have regrets. I think the laying in the sun with baby oil is one I wish I had never done. I let me sister in law put blond streaks in my dark brown hair in high school and then had to cut it short because I looked like a zebra! It looked great short. But then for years had short hair. Wasn't until covid that I grew it out and never colored it.

    • @MrKongsMom
      @MrKongsMom  9 дней назад

      Oh I know it... those days of laying in the sun really bit us in the ass, didn't it. If we only knew. Seriously, my mom never pushed for sunscreen. We just didn't even think about it!!!!

  • @ouiser1955
    @ouiser1955 11 дней назад

    Hi Melanie. I’ll be 70 next year. Regrets… Well when I was growing up we didn’t know about “Sunscreen” We would go to Coney Island and wore our Coppertone. “Tan don’t burn, get a Coppertone Tan”. Wish there was more awareness back then.
    My Hair… I have naturally wavy hair. It was past my “Tush” and I finally cut it short. Really short and I hated it because I couldn’t do a thing with it. Thank goodness it grew out fast. That was a huge mistake. Then I tried a perm 🤦🏻‍♀️ Not sure what I was thinking. 😂
    With my Mediterranean and Eastern European heritage I had more eyebrows than I knew what to do with. Did tweeze the midline area and shaped them but didn’t get into the ultra thin brow. Thank goodness because since Menopause I’ve been having to use Minoxidil on my brows to keep my brows intact. A bit on a QTIP and apply to brows. Has worked great.
    Other than those few things really nothing else, other than looking at old pictures and thinking to myself that some of the “beauty” trends through the decades were just hilarious. Same with fashion. What were we thinking? 😂
    ~CeCe ❤️🌹

    • @MrKongsMom
      @MrKongsMom  9 дней назад +1

      Oh yes, coppertone... And the ads were so tempting. I have seen some from back in the day. The darker the better! I think I need to try minoxidil on my brows again! I did that many years ago and it did work! But it kind of wrecked my skin around the brow area after a while. But that might have also been due to the skincare at the time in combination with the mixoidil.

    I'm older than you, and in my 30s, perms were so popular for all ages, kids to grandmas, men, too. I got a perm twice, and I looked like a poodle. Luckily my hair was long and thick then so it wasn't as horrific as it could have been. I over plucked my brows like everyone, too and of course we thought we looked good or we wouldn't have done it.

      Oh I got perms in 6th and 7th grade from my grandma Betty. Bless her heart. She did an awful job lol. Some of the perm took and some did not. I looked like a hoot for a while. I remember having to take a curling iron to the straight pieces on the days where I cared about it 🤣

    I am one of the few who never did the skinny brow trend. I've always liked my brows so kept them the same, only cleaning them up with waxing. Due to that, I still have my eyebrows at 51. I also have never colored my hair. Only in very recent years have I found any greys, but only like 4 or 5, so I could just pluck them. My biggest beauty mistakes were makeup. Not sure why I thought full coverage foundation looked good, especially in my teens and 20s, when there was absolutely no need for it. I'm sure in my teen years, I also didn't blend well, getting that jaw line of foundation lol. I also was definitely guilty of frosted blue eyeshadow in the 80s. The big one is thick eyeliner around my whole eye, in black or blue. My eyes are small enough so the dark thick line around them was never flattering.

    • @MrKongsMom
      @MrKongsMom  9 дней назад

      Oh Betsy! I wish I would had your knowledge of avoiding the old brows. Lucky! And yes, full coverage foundation in my teen and early 20's was a real thing over here. And make it MATTE. As matte as it can be. Let's emphasize all those pores lol!

I wiuld not relax at all and i had to wait for it to grow out. I just turned 46 this week and my biggest regret is tanning from the time I was 13 until I was about 34. I owned a tanning bed in my twenties and early 30s. I’m so pale that was so bad!!! I think of it everytime I see those dang wrinkles on my forehead! So dumb!

    Hi Melanie fortunately I never did the thin brow trend, as my mum was a cautionary tale having plucked them into oblivion in the sixties (I am 52). However I have had every length and colour of hair imaginable 😂. I’m naturally mid blonde with ultra pale cool toned skin and I did the goth thing including jet black hair dye 😂. Then this rock chick biker had multiple colours of hair including bright blue, bright pink, red, bleached white with pink streaks, green and bright purple. I finally settled on being blonde but with a multitude of highlights in it and straightening my coarse curls obviously 😂. I was never a sun worshipper thankfully but I didn’t know to wear spf when it wasn’t sunny 😢. I wore a smoky eye forever until it didn’t really look as good on my aging eyes (my late thirties).
    We all have pictures of “looks” we had when they were “on trend”, but thankfully I was always a bit rebellious and did my own thing most of the time. I think the last time I had trendy makeup was in the eighties with the prerequisite blue mascara and bright makeup, but I have to forgive my young teenage self for that (it matched the neon pink clothes and leg warmers 😂). Best wishes x

    My biggest regret is using tanning beds in my twenties. Followed by those curly perms I got between 1987-1989. After that, would be that time when I was 15 or 16 and I got blonde hair color from the drug store, thinking I could just put it in my very dark brown/soft black hair and voila, I’d be a blonde…….that shit was a disaster and I wound up with the strangest color of red 😂, and fourth would be the skinny brow.

    I am approaching 46 years old. I too had my eyebrows stolen by Pamala Anderson in the late 90's and continued to sacrifice them until my mid 30's. I tell my teenage daughter all the time PLEASE do not over pluck your brows, so far she's listened even though she has every right to do what she wants 😄. Another regret is bleaching my hair... the final straw was an all over bleach session that literally melted my hair off. It took me a few years to recover from that. I have now embraced my natural brown hair with a few highlights to give it some dimension but am considering just giving coloring my hair up all together. Another regret is all the heavy eye makeup I used to wear, looking a photos it really aged me and made me look hard. I gave up black eye liner in the bottom water line about 10 years ago in addition to that I gave up full glam eye shadow during covid all together, it has made a huge difference. Over all the lesson I have learned is that I wish I would have accepted who I was in my natural given state years ago, I wasted my good years trying to cover up what was always meant to be 🥰❤

    I’m 60 and started going gray in my early 20’s. I didn’t let it go all gray till I was 50. I had naturally dark hair and I’m so sorry that I missed the salt and pepper phase.
    Please don’t hate me but I think someday you might think you took the lip
    Injections a little too far. I have thin lips and would love thicker lips, but I don’t have the nerve or the money. I loved them the first few times you did it but it can look unnatural if it’s overdone. Again, I hope you don’t hate me for that comment. Oh I know there are many people that don't like my lips. That's totally ok. I don't mind if people are respectful. Personally I love them and have zero regrets and I don't think I will. I thought about it for a very long time before I did it. I think the way they look now is actually my favorite. Fun fact that no one has even noticed is that I had some of my top lip dissolved because there was a tiny bit of migration. I did not add anything else in because they still look pretty balanced overall. But I would not have done that if it wasn't for the bit of migration. I do foresee myself keeping this up as I think the current look suits my face. Not that I have added anything recently and nor do I expect to anytime soon. My body seems to hold on to the filler for quite some time. I don't metabolize it as fast as some do so that works out in my favor. They are not too far off from my lips in my younger years so I don't think I look insane. My lips changed a lot after having Stella (thinned out a lot for some reason). I do love having the option to change little things here and there as I age. But as far as a regret in the future, I don't think so. The only reason I would ever fully dissolve is if Craig said that he didn't care for them but he thinks I look lovely and his opinion is the one I probably value the most outside of my own ❤️
