The laptop runs hot and I suspect there was a bit of thermal throttling -- even after replacing the thermal paste it would run so hot you couldn't keep it on your lap. Also the screen quality was not crisp and brightness was maybe 250 nits? Pros? Great keyboard with excellent spacing and long key travel; also cheap to buy in the US; and no wonky digital function bar like the 2nd Gen.

Battery is a bit crap compared to my wifes chromebook, but I don't care, I stay mostly in one place for work.
It uses a Sandisk 20 + 6 connector and is very thin making adapter combos very tricky to fit inside the machine. If you adapt it to a more common type like mSATA, every mm counts.
What do you mean open the computer? If you're talking about disabling an internal battery, it is good practice to so that via the BIOS for the safest working conditions.
Regardless, it's a simple step to take that helps ensure unexpected power problems won't happen: From the manual: "Before replacing any FRU, ensure that you have disabled the built-in battery by doing the following: 1. Turn off your computer and disconnect the ac power adapter and all cables from the computer. 2. Turn on your computer. Press F1 to enter ThinkPad Setup when the ThinkPad logo is displayed. 3. Select Config ➙ Power. The Power submenu is displayed. 4. Select Disable built-in battery. 5. Click Yes in the Setup Warning window, then the computer turns off automatically. Wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool."

I am thinking of getting the i7 8gb of ram ...is it going to be good? Not for gaming of course
And is the fingerprint sensor any good?
I think you'd be pretty happy with it.
@@LaptopRetrospective thx i really hope so
It should be able to handle your basic tasks no problem. Just watch battery condition and if it needs to be replaced it can be a longer hunting trip.
I love the one I have for work. super reliable - for a machine which is nearly 8 years old. sure it's not a speed daemon or that much ram (i have the 8G/256ssd/i7 so it was a top level machine back in the day) but it's perfectly usable and they are cheap. Battery is a bit crap compared to my wifes chromebook, but I don't care, I stay mostly in one place for work.
Happy to hear it's still getting daily use.
Which type of ssd
It uses a Sandisk 20 + 6 connector and is very thin making adapter combos very tricky to fit inside the machine. If you adapt it to a more common type like mSATA, every mm counts.
Как подобрать ssd для данного ультрабука, какие размеры ?
It is better to use an adapter for the SATA SFF to something like mSATA that is easier to find.
must I enter into bios to open the computer?
What do you mean open the computer? If you're talking about disabling an internal battery, it is good practice to so that via the BIOS for the safest working conditions.
@@LaptopRetrospective I want to clean it
I don't want to disconnect anything, just want to spray some compressed air and clean out the dust
Regardless, it's a simple step to take that helps ensure unexpected power problems won't happen:
From the manual:
"Before replacing any FRU, ensure that you have disabled the built-in battery by doing the following:
I just got it today
Awesome! What do you think?
@@LaptopRetrospective I was actually expecting 5th gen ,but 1st wayyy great ..I just disinfected it ..I'll format it , Any suggestions to do at first , it's my first anyay
Does it have an SSD? That's the first step to great performance.
@@LaptopRetrospective yes
is a ssd mini half size slot available?
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question.
@@LaptopRetrospective when u disassembly it shows a empty slot next to wifi card. It seens to be a msata half size slot. Is that correct?
It was designed for a 3G/LTE card, not sure if this model supports an mSATA in that slot.
Welp today has been a good day. Got 2 more thinkpads for 130 usd (a x250 and a t470)
Wow, great find!
Both r in rather good condition as well. Only the x250 has any noticable wear and thats on the back. Either way cant beat 65usd a thinkpad
@@miskoma3882 Have to say, very jealous. Find me a good deal on a 701c 😁
@@LaptopRetrospective :p
Only slightly annoying thing is the x250 didn't have its internal battery (had the removable one thou) but yeah all in all still worth it
Great
👍
Hey would you like to sell you x1 for parts?
Sorry, I don't have this machine anymore.
@@LaptopRetrospective thanks sorry for the typo
I m watching this video just to upgrade my ram.
Cool!
This Vs hp elite book 850 g3
Pretty hard to compare as they are several generations apart.
Anyone own this laptop for coding? How is it?
Great question. What kind of coding?
@@LaptopRetrospective HTML CSS PHP...
@@ckernest I don't imagine that work would be very CPU demanding. Even a first gen machine should be able to handle it no problem.
@@LaptopRetrospective right. I guess the cpu speed is almost same as the old macbook air.
Neat...i don't like it
What did it for you?
The combo of the ssd, nonupgradable ram and how the keyboard comes off
@@miskoma3882 Fair.
The angle at which you toured the ports was horrible. I had to check look at your subscriber count to estimate how long you've been doing RUclips videos. Very disappointing to say the least.
Hi there, thanks for the feedback. Since this video I have filmed the ports separate to address this, so this isn't an issue in current videos. I hope that you can judge my work as a whole and see gradual progression as this video isnt exactly new.
@@LaptopRetrospective Thanks for the speedy response. I actually enjoy your content. Please do forgive me for my harsh initial response. By the way, I'm subscribing now 🙂.
No worries! I'm glad that you took the time to comment and even happier to have your support and understanding. I hope to see more comments from you in the future.
My pleasure.
Thats a loooonnnggg ass intro. That was like what? 2 hours of intro or sum?
Might want to check your watch, video isn't even one hour long. In all seriousness, this intro only appears for Project X as a reference to the original Mega Man X on the SNES. My regular intro is only seconds long. You could always just skip it too. 😉
very bad lcd
Yep, it is damaged, no doubt about that. Crying shame too.
