i love this guy's commentary, just the way he uses slang so nonchalantly is hilarious for some reason "when i get jumped on my 100 hour character and lose weeks of progress, i'm gonna mald. i am also, coincidentally, going to trace their ip and give them an in-depth tutorial of the real life grip system."
Man it's such a breath of fresh air to have someone as charismatic as you in the community your sweet curried words is what helps me sleep at at night knowing I'm not the only man child whom plays this Lego game
Camping high traffic areas is something that I've worried about for ages, glad to see someone finally talk about it. Hopefully there's enough variety in thing you can do and places to go that its made less viable. Also on the topic of the video before last. (the guild video) Do you think guilds flooding on people in the depths which is as Rag said "about half the size of gaia" will be an issue? As usual amazing video which I greatly enjoyed, useless pre release speculation is the only thing that keeps my hype up for this game at this point and its really entertaining for some reason :)
I actually hard agree that if the depths is the last stop before true death, it getting camped or flooded is gonna be aids. Especially those shrines if those are how you get back and forth.. Also thanks, I appreciate it
I think that's where befriending factions will help out a lot. From what I remember, if a faction is allied with you then a village associated with said faction will sick guards on anyone who tries to jump you. It's a lot riskier to try and jump somebody if you're about to potentially get ganked by every NPC in town.
I mean who would camp the shrines when you have like 10+ hours of beginner progression content as they say on twitter? I'm sure even maxed players have better things to do.
@@lecrovidae6987 That's also true. It's likely more efficient to just do missions than to camp, and camping would hopefully only be viable if you're hunting a specific person and are waiting for them to arrive somewhere.
would you believe me if I said it took me an hour to get a run long enough to be the background footage, and of course that run happened to be 2x longer than the video : ^)
Bro you have no idea how happy I get when you upload thank you for making these videos they are something I look forward to watch every time I see a new one
What i'm really worried about is how the spawning is gonna be, not tryin load into deepwoken with 12+ people right next to me. On a side note: Great video chap
Well to be fair I almost never find myself getting spawn camped in rogue, and with how large the world of DW is, spawncamping shouldn't be an issue. There's also the fact that a freshspawn will have nothing of value. They'll likely give very little xp and they have no items to actually fight them for.
"Deep art online" This is the best and worst thing I've ever heard. Regarding progression, I'm really looking forward to Deepwoken. Making builds is so much fun in games, and as long as prog isn't similar to rogue and it's checklist of required fucking passives (merc, pit dodge, sigil helm, tomeless) and progressing is actually _fun_ and _satisfying_ I think I'll be able to take dying much easier. One of the most enjoyable Roguelikes I've played in a while has progression somewhat similar to rogue. The world is decently procedural but the true points of interest stay the same. The game is permadeath and a run can last you a good 5 to 10 hours if you're just aiming to complete the main quest. You will often find yourself doing the same objectives and quests on every run, and it's very easy to die- especially to bullshit that might make you feel cheated. So the framework is very similar to Rogue's... However the actual structure, the part of the game which is _supported_ by the framework is where it shines... First off, you can get a build rolling from the character creation screen. You can select a handful of abilities from a large list and mess with your stats from the get-go, and each ability and stat will have a massive impact on your playthrough. Say you chose the ability that lets you create a temporary forcefield? You now have a massive advantage against enemies with projectiles, and can wall out melee enemies for a bit too. Say you chose the ability to teleport? Now you have an easy "get out of jail free card" if you ever find yourself at low hp. These abilities immediately make the game more fun from spawn and soften the blow that comes with dying during a really long and successful run. If you started out with nothing but your fists, then picking yourself back up after a loss would be so much harder. I love that Deepwoken allows you to give 2 items to your heir upon death, and I'd especially love it if spells were included in that as well. As for the "bullshit," yeah, you can die in some pretty stupid or unforeseen ways, though I'd argue that this is a part of the learning curve. A lot of the ways you can die are avoidable if you know what you're doing. Like one run I saw a creature I had never seen before. I stepped on it and it teleported me across the entire map into an extremely dangerous area. While I might feel cheated, next time I'll know not to go anywhere near those. Most of all though, the progression in this game is _fun._ You will constantly be putting yourself in stressful situations, yet there's enough depth to let you make decisions outside of "should I attack this guy?" You have things to worry about besides "is this asshat boutta have all his buddies teleport in to beat my ass?" Instead of finding yourself picking up shiny objects for hours on end you'll find yourself delving into ruins to find ancient technology to sell or claim for yourself. Instead of killing 60 defenseless freshspawns you'll end up making friendships and rivalries with different factions, and fighting crazy robots and mutants scattered across the land. Rogue isn't a demotivating mess because it's permadeath... it just fucking sucks. Welp, there's a collection of words I excreted onto the screen about a game I like for no particular reason other than I felt like it. Thanks for reading to anyone who, well, read it. Game is called Caves of Qud for anyone interested. Fair warning though, the graphics are pretty primitive. None of the sprites are animated and they're all 8-bit, but if you have the patience to learn the game and learn how to understand what the fuck is happening on screen at any given moment, it can be a lot of fun. Thanks again to anyone who read, and have a good one.
@@Crusty_Sword Easy is not the problem. The problem is that you need to spend HOURS every run getting them. It takes an hour to get climb and a solid 30 minutes to train it, then like another 15 to 20 to get through tundra, get your howler fang, and finally do the helm quest. Getting your passives is fucking obnoxious as well because again, it's time consuming. Tomeless is the worst because you need to have a decent amount of orderly and go on an easter egg hunt to find all the races you need, then pray to god they don't log while you're carrying them down to the room. Why do I need to spend HOURS getting passives before I can actually start progressing and playing the goddamn game? It's just a bunch of boring fucking chores. It wouldn't be an issue if you were able to get these things later on, but picking up a bronze weapon to farm xp with is a huge risk as an ultra. If you're chaotic then have fun getting sigil helm and tomeless. All this shit just slows the game down and makes progression a lot less fun. It's bad game design.
@@sagehanson190 well ya I see what you mean because this is how it felt when I started but now I can just throw my alts in also tip is to get spear dash then merc because you can use base climb in tundra to get through it with spear dash so ya I see what else you mean and getting fangs are a pain.
@@Crusty_Sword I have most of the tomeless alts as well, but that's only because I spent a lot of money on buying them. Most players don't have access to that. Also yeah spear dash can make it so that you don't really need to train climb as much that is true, but the game would be so much nicer if instead of needing to use a glitch to get through tundra, you could train climb in a more fun and natural way.
